This should be our toughest remaining game this season, if the team performs consistently.

There is obviously no hope for our defense, so let's not even entertain that.

Missouri is averaging 22.4 ppg. I would expect them to add around 50% to that total, given our D, and will say they hit about 34.

Their defense is averaging 22.6 ppg yielded, but they do not do well against high scoring teams, with GA, AL, USCe averaging 38 points against them.

They have not been consistent in their defensive letdowns either. Connor Shaw completed 20-21 passes, which Tyler Bray is probably chomping at the bit over, but Bama rushed for 362 yards, so a good offensive game plan can exploit them one way or the other.

Tennessee is currently averaging 36.8 ppg, but I think we can do a bit better than that, with Neal being healthier this week, Marlin Lane looking good, and the passing game hitting it's stride. I think we score 44.

TN 44
Mizz 34

I expect about the same score as sat for both offenses. I assume that Missouri has better talent than troy and obviously our def flat out stinks.

That being said ,for some reason I think they run the spread but I haven't actually seen them play, I could be wrong.

We win. Yes they will score alot but we will score more. The offense, Bray, is looking really good and Mizz's Defense doesn't scare me at all.

I think we winout averaging 40 a game and Bray does not pass for less than 300 yards a game.

Dooley will get out coached and the talent level is going to be a hell of a lot better Saturday. This game had disaster written all over it.

VN needs to realize that Mizzou QB Franklin and several other key players (who missed about half the season due to injuries) have returned. Franklin worked off some rust against KY, and could be very dangerous against our non-existent defense. I hope we win, but I'm afraid it may look like:

Tigers 55

Vols 42

I truly hope I'm wrong, but Coach Pinckel is a more experienced and better coach than Dooley. Remember, key injuries have kept Mizzou's ppg down, but those players are back. Also, Mizzou is getting used to the faster pace and high intensity of the SEC. If Dooley and our team are not REALLY up for this one, we could be in great trouble.

GBO!!!

721 yards. Troy.

UT is 112th ranked in total defense, 107th in scoring defense.

Mizzou ranked 22 in total defense, 38th in scoring defense.

Franklin is healthier. Mizzou is playing for a good, proven head coach that designed the offense and runs a sprint option/spread offense that our D has been totally lost in defending.

Tennessee is hitting its stride on offense, but prone to make the dumb mistakes in big games with TO's. UT has an unproven, losing record, hot seat head coach that has serious game management issues.

I see it reversed from the OP's prediction. UT can win the game if they get their heads out of their tails as D coaches. No evidence that can happen at this point.

From what I've seen of Missouri this year is that they have a defensive line that's good to stop the run. They gave Florida all they wanted this past Saturday & Florida just barely pulled the win out at the Swamp. Vols fans know how hard that is to do. If we can't open holes up for our backs to run then we are one dimensional. So Chaney needs to come up with a game plan with about 6 options on the table. We need to call trick plays, reverse plays, a tail back option throw back to the other side of the field...something to keep Missouri off balance. If Franklin runs the ball on us to the outside all day then we are dead in the water cause you know the story there. It will not be easy to win this one with the way our defense has been playing. I guess who has the ball last & scores will win this one.

Franklin has passed for 4 touchdowns in 7 games, with only two of those touchdowns against SEC play. And for all of the great respect that he gets for "killing you with his legs", his rushing totals this year are (39, 25, 6, -18, 23, 0, 29).

And for those saying Franklin is now healthy and so forth, he worst QB ratings have come in his last two games. 4 picks against Florida isn't exactly world beating material.

I do expect him to play well against our defense. He will probably rush for 50+ yards and pass for 300, though he has done neither this year... of course he will against us.

Their rushing game is inconsistent, with their leading rusher averaging 74 yards per game, but of course they will have a season best performance against Tennessee.

I simply think our offense can score more than them. Can someone, maybe a bit more enlightened than I, tell me how good their DB's are?

I predict James Frankiln for Heisman discussions after the game. He gets 300 through the air easy. And probably 100 on the ground.

But I trust our offense and the make up of this team. Our guys are fighters.

Tennessee 48 Mizzou 45

I really hate that I have become like this but Saturday's game is almost a win-win. If we win (and I really hope we do), then we are one game closer to having a decent finish. If we lose, no question anymore that Dooley is fired. We can get that monkey off our back without debate.

We win by more than two scores, our def. gives up 400 yrds. and our off. has over 500 yrds. We run for 100+ with Lane getting most of that. Score 48-31.

Bray is going to be making it rain on these teams. And my face will
make it rain when the d takes the field.

Hopefully our D will find some sort of pride or something to make them play like a bad defense this week, not a non existant one

The key to winning is to practice the most basic 3-4 or 4-3 this entire week. Make Sal watch all of it from elevation. Put Conklin down on the field.

Then on game day, put Sal upstairs and Conklin on the field.

I do not care if they actually let Sal communicate while up there.

Try to put the D in position to play without thinking as much. Also to not worry about getting chewed out on the sideline after every d series.

JMO, getting chewed out by coach, boss, etc. never bothered me...always worked harder to show them they were wrong. Not sure that getting chewed out helps the current generation. Seems to me that too many kids these days grow up so protected that they do not handle old school criticism well at all.

It makes no sense for Sal to be just constantly yelling at kids when he's never effectively taught them what they're supposed to do. By all accounts the team has never really understood his defense, and at this point that falls purely on poor coaching. There were tons of reports in the off season of the players putting in lots of extra hours of film work to try and learn, so it sounds like effort on their part wasn't the problem.

You can yell all you want at a player for doing something wrong, but if you never really taught them how to do it right, then it's only going to make things worse. It's like yelling at a kid on the first day of a hard class for not being able to pass the final.

The real key to winning is figuring out the most effective, yet time-consuming, way of scoring 45 points against each of our final three opponents.

We can't fix our defensive woes in a week and I think each of these teams can put up 35+ on our defense easily (well, maybe not Kentucky).

Btw, I saw one bowl prediction this weekend that had us in the Music City Bowl against WVU. Not sure how that could happen, but if it did, I don't think I could watch. Might set the all-time record for offensive output in a single game.

WVU would score 80+, but good grief... we might do the same!
