Recruiting Forum: UNofficial Mississippi State Game Thread

We fought hard, but I'm at my wits end with moral victories. We need to upset someone, particularly someone with less talent than us. There was no doubt tonight which team had more talented playmakers. But MSU just flat outplayed us.

I won't join the Grudenites, though, because if Dooley is fired, Gruden ain't coming here. You can book that. We get Kirby Smart at best or someone else that is untried that nobody has heard of.

Now that we are guaranteed a 7-5 year (at best), I still favor keeping Dooley. See if he can land these big name recruits we are in on (which hopefully includes some stud LBs and defensive ends) and then let's give it one more year. If we aren't better after four years, I think to a man everyone on this board agrees Dooley needs to go.

I'm sorry but he better not get another year. It's obvious to me he can't get it done. The Florida meltdown & now this. Absolutely no way we should lose this game tonight in year 3. That first half was some of the worst football I've seen at UT & a LOT of it was coaching. No excuses. Make a change & let the new staff get the recruits.

I've got nothing. Not a moral victory, you inexplicably went limp for 2 quarters, and started punching too late.

I'm opening up to a change, but I'll say this for the "FAR 'EM NOW" crowd:

If UT is going to do this, it ABSOLUTELY MUST crank one out of the park. Any thing less and we're wandering the desert for 10-20 years. I honestly believe that. There's been too many changes, too many systems, too little stability just to do it all again. No flavor of the week. No up and comer. No mid-major. No college OC/DC with no HC experience.

You can not make yet another change just to roll the dice. That's why Vegas makes billions...idiots believing the next roll will make them rich.

I honestly have a hard time seeing 7 wins on our schedule.

Troy will not be an easy W.

so far, we have been outcoached in every game accept 1 (NC State)

all of our wins have been due to us being that much more talented than our opponents.

when we have played opponents of equal or more talent, w Lost.

I don't think it's obvious. His team is implementing a brand new D. The talent on D is not there. Game management is there. Teams wasn't the reason we lost, Rivera just made a bonehead play. If anyone has to go, I'm still calling Chaney. My reasons:

How many times was JH targeted? Get the ball in your playmakers' hands.

We abandoned the run again, a few times, especially in the 1st half. We have proved that we can run. Our OL is getting it done. Neal and Lane were hurt, but run the freaking ball. Stop forcing Bray to keep it all together.

He's not creative, at all. He's not dynamic. He becomes very predictable.

Can't argue much with that.

Half the time they still call the offense as if the OL is a liability. They're playing their balls off, IMO.

patterson and hunter should be getting the ball ALOT more

put patterson in the backfield with somebody fast at QB i saw that 1 time and he got like 20 yds fast as hell

It's situational, too. I don't trust Chaney to make a call that gets us a 1st down on a critical 3rd down. He doesn't have anyone's trust. With our talent on offense, three and outs should be rare if managed correctly.

I would not be opposed to Strong at all. He's a good coach.

Agreed. I think we'll get to 7, but Vandy will play hard and Troy will be closer than expected. They will light up our D.

Exactly. Get our playmakers the ball. It felt like Hunter hardly even touched the ball tonight. CP proved what he can do when the ball in his hands.

Now that it seems like the OL has gotten its sea legs, I really don't understand the way we randomly get gimmicky on offense.

Simple runs and play action seems like it would be absolutely lethal...but they've got Bray trying to carry the world back there.

You guys know we struggled to beat Akron right? Couldn't slow them down either.

In telling you, and I wish it wasn't so, but the losing is far from over for this team. I think it could get really, really ugly next week.

We barely had the ball in the first half. Tyler made some bad decisions on third and short/medium. I can remember at least two times where he went with deep route outside, when he had the check down open for the first down.

yeah we barely had the ball because we abandoned the run. YET AGAIN.

You know why Tyler Bray gets in Panic mode, because his Coaches Panic.

Chaney started calling plays in the 1st half like we were down 2 scores with 2 minutes left in the game

we have this Athletic strong Off. Line and the most explosive player in the SEC, yet we run zero WR screens, zero hitches, and zero tunnel screens to Patterson

On offense, we have two players we don't utilize like we should: CP and Rivera. Not getting the ball enough to Rivera goes back to last year. I said then that it didn't make any sense why we don't throw him the ball more. We finally utilized CP against MSU. CP had a great game last night, but like you say, Jay, the playcalling is not complete.

I agree. CP is a dynamic playmaker, but other than last night and the NC State game, he's hardley touched the ball. Rivera is one of the most underrated tight ends in the game but we don't throw to him either.

Those are not in Chaney's little repertoire. Frustrating.

Has anyone seen an outlet out of the backfield that wasn't designed to go to the back? every route is ten yards + with no real check down. Chaney's done better and better calling plays but I think I just don't like his play book. under center I formation run them the eff over. Over and over again.
