They are very professional, and have not, nor would not leak detailed information to me regarding the situation. I have stated on here numerous times for these reasons that jobs were at stake. Up to this point, they had not given me any information that we weren't hearing from other people, so I didn't feel the need to bring anything up that would simply come across as "oh yeah, MY source said that too!" I've limited myself mostly to logical speculation on what we all could see, and only spoken definitively about things I knew factually to be true. For example "anyone bringing salary numbers is trolling or misinformed."
At no point have either of my sources told me "Gruden." They are not going to say a name until the coach is announced. They know my position on Gruden. So I am reading between the lines on identity, but I feel comfortable doing so.
Last night around 6:30 pm, I heard from the professional colleague regarding his/her participation in events. His job is completed, and he does not expect to have to do any additional work. I know he has been working on his part since Tuesday of the bye week, because he has been absolutely silent. We talked before he went dark, and his silence was expected for the duration of his work. The fact that he doesn't have anything else to do at this point, I took as a good sign, but was only a single data point.
This morning, I heard from the individual I know on the academic administration side. We have communicated with each other at length since 2013 on policy and philosophical issues related to the University's direction. Much of my thinking on the overall direction of the school has been shaped by conversations with this individual. Based on our talk this morning, I believe that the academic faction has capitulated on significant issues related to the independence of the football program. I believe that this has been one of the bigger issues affecting our coaching situation that hasn't really been discussed. Again, both of these individuals are aware of my thoughts on Gruden without saying a name. Both of these individuals have confirmed for me that in their respective areas of competence, the process has been completed, and will enter the next phase.
I am bringing this now because I heard from both of them within 24 hours, independent of each other, and because the timing seems congruent with the reports we are hearing from other folks (DTO, Atlanta Vol, etc) And I find it VERY interesting that I was hearing from one of my people at about the same time VFL92 was making his/her post.
Looks to me like the ducks are in a row. TIFWIW, but I would now put myself at 99% Gruden.
