Why? Are we just a dead program? Bama can get Saban. OSU can get Meyer. Mich can get Harbaugh. But we can't lure Fuente from Va Tech? Patterson from TCU?

Is the best we can do Matt Campbell?

I don't believe it. I can't believe it.

I hate to seem stupid, but I cannot understand why people think it would be possible for us to get Fuente. Only a soiled colostomy bag of a human being would jump a big program after one year (I’m looking at you kiffy).

Also, and I’m saying this with my orange glasses on, why would that be anything but a lateral move for him. Coaches are faking heart attacks to get out of the SEC for other P5 programs. With the new playoff system, it is so much easier for a Clemson or Ohio state or other school to get there. It’s as though strength of schedule isn’t even considered anymore. The SEC is not seen as the powerhouse it once was, and the other schools are paying just as much.

To coach in the SEC is a yearlong grind where coaches face higher scrutiny by the fan base, higher expectations, and yet have to a grind of a schedule with the same number of players but a higher likelihood of injury due to the weekly schedule. Why put yourself at that kind of disadvantage to your reputation and then not get paid any more.

Fuente will only played 3 teams that were ranked this year (maybe 2 more if you count postseason) East Carolina and old dominion are much more common opponent types for them. If he beats just the teams he’s supposed to beat (a la Dooley did), he’s a 9 game winner every year.

I just don’t see the draw away from a program that has been very classy in the way they treated Beamer (as opposed to how we treated our long-time head coach, firing him mid season like he was a piece of trash who hadn’t spent his whole life at the university).

Other than a so-called pay raise, why would Fuente ever leave? And how much of a pay raise? UT has never spent more for a coach than they currently are and it’s half what the big boys are paying. It’s only a few hundred thousand different from what he is currently making.

I won’t believe UT will pony up more cash until I see it. Their MO has always been to pay less for the generic brand.

Hmmm... Brohm and Campbell seem to be in very similar situations. We will get one of those guys if we dont get Frost imo.

Brohm, Campbell, and Frost all have huge upside, but they come with big risks. One or more will be superstars, but which one

This season sucks I don’t even look forward to the games this year and the only thing the fanbase is looking forward to is when our coach gets fired.

Curry had the chance to be a folk hero. Now if he doesn't make a good hire he'll be the most hated man on Rocky Top

Hiring Matt Campbell would continue the tradition of hiring a dude with an embarassing high school picture that can be used as a meme:

One bonus for Matt Campbell is that he beat Butch at Toledo. So we wouldn't be hiring a dude who lost to the dude that we just fired.

Looks like a young Gerry Dinardo.

now theyre mad at currie too? the kress army

This was inevitable. Anyone following college football knows Butch should be fired. The longer Currie waits, the more it reflects on him as being indecisive and having no plan. Sort of makes him look desparate, hoping Butch can win out and keep Currie from having to make a “hard” choice.

Even if Butch somehow won out, I don’t think we should keep him. He would still top every hotseat list in America which will drag down his recruiting. We’d be in worse shape, not better shape.

And every Tennessee fan knows the ad has to get the agreement of a few of the boosters.
Blaming Currie at this point is just stupid venting but so UT fanbase.

We can’t even score. How are we going to win out? Lol

We just now got through playing the #1 and #3 teams in the nation, plus the top 3 in our division. We had a QB who was struggling, and put in a redshirt freshman, who now has 2 games under his belt as starter. Our top WR is out for the year, and I believe a few OL are out for the year, as well.

The easy part of our SEC schedule is coming up, with the possible exception of the LSU game. So, there is some cause for optimism.

Disclaimer: This in no way is an attempt to get the coaching staff off the hook. It is their job to have the team ready, and to have capable backups ready to go. This is also not a prediction of going undefeated from here on out. Unfortunately, there is little evidence that would point to the likelyhood of winning out, or even coming close.

For those that love Frost:

Matt Campbell took over Iowa State after 3-9, 2-10, and 3-9 seasons. In year 2 they are 5-2 already with a win over #3 Oklahoma and TCU up next week. Is his resume not more impressive at this time than Frost including his 35-15 record at Toledo?

Toledo.

We'll see how ISU does down the stretch. Good chance they lose 4 out of the next 5.

I'm capable of thinking both have done a good job, any particular reason you are asking us to pick one over the other?

They won't actually contact us when getting ready to make a hire.
