'25 Recruiting Forum: Official Mississippi State vs Tennessee Pre-game/Game Thread

Guys, playing catch up but I posted (yesterday?) just win and that’s what we did.
FSU fans would swap places with us in a heart beat. At the end of the year CFP committee will add up the Ws vs Ls this will still count in the W column.
This is not to say I’m wowed by our play be totally happy with the win👊🏻🍊

I think people forget that we beat Alabama in 2022 because of his unconventional clock management. IIRC we had 1 timeout left, and instead using it when most coaches would, he help onto it and let Hendon throw that last pass to set up the FG. And he had the TO for that attempt. But I could be misremembering that sequence.

That whole sequence was very crisp. Todays last 90 seconds of regulation where quite strange.

But he maximized the plays per second against Bama. Today he minimized it. We could have gotten at least 3 more plays off with better clock management, maybe even as many as 5 more without the running plays. It wasn't unconventional, it was stupid.

But what I'm saying is that in the final 38 seconds of this game, JA burned 24 seconds on 2 plays that he held the ball. That's not Heupel's fault.

So in the Bama game it was Hooker maximizing the plays per second because he made quick decisions in that moment and WRs got open. Today, JA didn't maximize the time and/or the WRs didn't get open.

But who cares! Vols won and they'll get that all cleaned up!

Call a timeout? That would have gotten us two more plays.

I put a breakdown of the final :38 sec earlier in the thread. There was only 2 times he could've called a timeout in that sequence and he DID use a TO in the first one. The second was after a first down run and we quickly snapped the ball. Then JA ran around in the backfield and drained nearly 10 seconds before throwing the ball away. That could've been a TO or spike.
