I think we have to throw a couple deep balls to open the run game. If we hit a couple of those early, then state is gonna have to press to stay in the game. We could see a big score if they keep it close in the first half.I think for both teams a run game can maybe be their best defense.
I've already predicted a shootout so I won't go back on that...
But the more I think I about it... Both teams want to run. Typically both teams play with pace.
Neither team has the defensive depth to have a ton of extra possessions. So I could see a scenario where the exact opposite type of game develops as both teams try to protect their defense a little bit while still trying to take shots when opportunities present.
It’s easy for a competent QB to rack up yards against the soft base zone we run. I don’t understand it…why take death by a 1000 cuts versus being aggressive with man and blitzing? Worse case is they still get yards and eventually score, which is what is already happening. Best case is turnovers, incompletions, etc. They get paid millions so I’ll just keep wondering.I didn’t know it was that bad.
Man this game scares me the more I think about it.
Our offense better travel.
They did that the first play of the UGA game and had Redmond on an island. I understand some of the game but never played. To me, it looks like they try to mix it up. We did some DL stunting and zone blitzes last year, so they are willing to call different things. At least they will generally know what Lebby wants to do. I also do believe they may revert back some 2022 thinking and knowing that our offense has a greater chance of scoring. It’s easy for a competent QB to rack up yards against the soft base zone we run. This is also the game they miss their best OL and DT who were lost for the year against ASU. They had several go down against NIU as well. Its prob up in the air for one of their Safeties to play.I think this will definitely be a shootout due to our ineptitude on the backend of our Defense so far. However, reading some stuff from their fans Shapen is a 1 read QB, not going through his progressions and also not throwing it away to avoid negative yards. IF we can get some pressure then that bodes well with our sack game. Hopefully Redmond learned from the UGA game and can answer the call in this one. I have no doubts on Hood. We also need to control the game offensively and be balanced as much as possible. Moi would be nice and Hobbs would be even better but I honestly wouldn’t rush either of them back for this one unless they are dang near 100%. We need them more for Alabama and OU.
