Recruiting forum off topic thread (no politics, covid, or hot button issues)

While I agree and could care less about others opinion of me or my thoughts, you're not looking at it based on what is actually happening at the country at this time. How many believed "we're eating the cats and dogs" ? Times are changing and morals and integrity are a thing of the past, the collective opinion seems to carry far more weight than ever before. People spend too much time caring about likes instead of standing up for their beliefs. The fact is, whether some want to admit it or not is these things probably hurt more than we give them credit for. You can debate if this is a factor then we may not want them but more and more you would be eliminating a larger group of recruits. Why would we want to lose anyone that would help the team due to negative statements made about the very team we are rooting for? I have never and will never understand negative talk about a commit to our University that obviously the coaching staff wanted. That isn't even taking into consideration that none of us are qualified to make that judgement, we are taking the word of sites filled with people that they themselves aren't qualified scouts. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to voice it where kids parents and families are checking into the University IMO shows a complete lack of judgement in search of likes.

The best way for our coaches to insulate themselves or protect themselves from negativity is to go out and prove it wrong. Change the narrative. We've been right on the cusp for three cycles. Yesterday was a big win, same for FB & Davis Anders, Legend Bey too.
But prove what wrong? That they can or can't recruit 5* players? Or can or can't field a successful unit? You harp on WM constantly, but by most accounts his unit was solid last year. That hasn't stopped the harping.

Your basic argument as I understood it, is that social.media basically shouldn't have any bearing on decision making.

The Schiano debacle shows thst isn't always true. I'm not taking sides in this argument as I feel it's a useless debate.

But to say it can't or won't have any effect is not true.
I just think you're taking an isolated incident that had much larger implications and some dark underlying elements (Penn State issues) and trying to draw a conclusion that it is the same thing as a kid making a decision about where to attend school while factoring in the opinions of a small vocal minority. That just doesn't resonate.

Some in this crowd would question Lombardi. But it’s not just Tennessee board, Texas board questioning Sark and his laid back recruiting style. Bama questioning their coaches X and O’s. It happens everywhere. We have a great staff, they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. So buckle up and enjoy this great ride! GBO

Reactions: PA Vol
I genuinely think we should have a stickied “coaching discussion” thread where folks can sidebar these conversations

I know for a fact recruits and parents look at these websites (literally google any recruits name + vol and volnation is within the first couple pages on google) and having negative comments in the player thread about the coach they will be spending 4 years with isn’t… useful

Does it directly cause real harm to a recruits decision making? No. Of course not.

Could it be one of very many factors against coming here? Could be. Why I think a separate thread for coaching discussions would be better than what inevitably happens in every OL or DB recruit thread
It’s more fluid and people interact MORE if you have all pertinent information in the players thread.

Even if it’s a bunch of side talk and not an update.

That’s how this site gets views.

Me and Boo Carters mother had a discussion turned argument (her fault) and Boo still came
here. He also plays the exact position(s) I said he would be play. (This was part of that discussion).

When a kid is making the biggest decision of their lives they need all information available. That may include a player projection analysis form a smartass Vol fan. Or more than likely they’ll just laugh. Either way, I don’t think it’s ever been that serious

Don't throw facts out there. Come on Man. In CHRIST Alone

It's mentally weak to allow the opinions of a fanatical group of anonymous internet randos to overtake your own convictions, yes. You'll never stand on your own and be able to make tough choices if you allow others who aren't terribly close or informed to make them for you.

You're grossly overemphasizing the importance of the opinion of fans on a message board. If these things were being said by other coaches, on SEC Now, College Gameday, and in team scouting reports by reputable media members, then yeah...you take those things into account and allow them to help you make an informed decision. I doubt that Shabazz, or any other recruit has approached Elarbee and said, "Hey coach, I like everything about you and Tennessee, but @Adam2014 on VolNation said you aren't very good at your job."
Maybe you and Adam could exchange numbers and then you two can dog em all day long..

If they actually give a rip, which they dont.

Nope, won’t change the narrative by the gadfly gang at all. They require no justification, just free speech rights. Masters at repackaging their message OF CHOICE.

To be fair, last year's OL was dominant at run blocking. At the same time, every Vol fan being honest with themselves knows our pass blocking was almost non-existent. And that is where the frustration with Elarbee comes from. I do think he would benefit from hiring an assistant/analyst/whatever you want to call it to help teach better pass blocking technique.
