NO.

LOTR is the goat. All other fantasy is judged by its greatness. Tolkein was a master, the guy was responsible for several languages just for this story.

LotR as far as storytelling goes is far superior. The cinematography and just shear "epicness" of LotR is unmatched. However, I enjoy the story being told and the characters in GoT more than LotR. Even if it isn't told as well as LotR. If that makes sense...

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan would be even more epic than LOTR. However it's 14 books long and I don't see any way to do it justice in making movies out of them. Maybe could be done in a long series similar to game of thrones, but would require a lot of CGI. You couldn't do more than 1 book per season.

I thought that was the place where I could go for updates on A J Johnson and Von Pearson that were not really updates, but actually people speaking about Gary, launching memes and arguing about whether or not victims should be charged.

Yep. WOT is definitely the definition of an Epic epic. The one power would require lots of special effects but I would definitely watch for sure.

Yeah, there are parts of WOT that would be hard to transfer to screen. It could be amazing if done right though.

I've heard those are well thought of but I have a hard time starting a 14 book long series. That's a lot of time spent reading.

I tried the first one in Wheel of Time, and I couldn't really get into it, personally. Have thought about trying book 2 sometime but haven't done it yet

Honestly, I enjoyed the GoT books a lot. I read them after watching seasons 1-4 of the show. However, there were times even those were a drag. It took me a year's time to read them all.

I quit reading this series for about 15 years, and then finally started over again when the last book finished. Really excellent read, but, I agree, it would be way difficult to make into a movie or series.

It does take time, but I've never known someone to complete it without raving over how good the storytelling is. It is so well thought out. Things in the first books reference things in the last books that you had no idea about and leave you like 'holy crap! That's what he meant! ' It's crazy! You really feel like you've known many of the characters for years because the development and forethought is so great.

I wasn't that impressed with 1 either. It wasn't bad, just not amazing. I'm on 5 now and I do like the series better. It's very good but I think GOT has the edge. Lotta books left, though.

Rand al Thor...ultimate hero. I love WoT...they could do it on screen, but would have to cut it down to the bare minimum. Awesome story for those that don't have adhd. I'm about to start reading it again. I live all these stories except for Star Wars episodes I II and III. I wish they would throw those out and let JJ redo the story...Midi clorians? What a freaking joke.

Must be cool to experience them in real life...

Alright guys, indulge me for just a minute here. I know this should be in the Pub (and I actually did a search for a thread but couldn't find one), but I'm probably going to switch to Dish or DirecTV...leaning towards DirecTV. I know about the two-year commitment, etc. Is there anything I need to know that is going to make me really hate satellite service versus cable? I've reached my breaking point with Charter.

A DirecTV guy recently told me that they have fixed the weather issues and they are not as bad as they have been.

With that said, usually any weather can royally fukc up your game. And in the 4th qtr while the vols are driving I can never take that risk. Cable does not.

But if it's nice and sunny out I would prefer DirecTV.

I've talked to a few people in my neighborhood that have DirecTV, and they said they couldn't remember the last time their service went out because of weather...and it get's pretty windy in our area.

Was fed up with Cable and went back to DirecTV this summer and haven't had any issues. Also, if ATT is your wireless provider, there are bundles that can help save a few dollars.

I got rid of DirecTV because I got fed up with losing HD picture when there was moderate rain in my area or to our immediate southwest. This wasn't an issue of signal strength either because my dish was peaked as close to perfect as possible for the highest signal strength.

I have Xfinity now and it works just fine. Picture quality even seems slightly better. The only complaint I have is the X1 operating system is a little slow in areas and parts of how you can schedule the DVR recordings isn't as good as DirecTV.

I switched to Dish in July 2014.

The only time my TV's gone out for any extended period of time was during the Arkansas game this year, but that was right when Charleston was getting hit with the rain of the century (24 inches in 48 hours at my house!) so I could understand that issue.

The DVR for Dish is amazing, you seriously can record what feels to be an unlimited amount of games, movies, series, kids shows, ect and always have the ready to play.

It is much better IMO than Comcast ever dreamed of being.
