Because God gives the wisdom and love, which in turn gives man the eternal understanding between right and wrong.

No problem. Sorry about your comprehension problems. In the past, the kid apparently has been a complete idiot. You decide what you think is evidence that he has changed. I suggested based on observation something what I think the coaches might see as evidence of change. Play word games if you like. Fortunately I think the coaches will show better judgment than you on this decision, regardless of what they decide and regardless of the basis of that decision. Because their decision matters. Yours and mine don't. We can afford to be wrong. Coaches can't.

I will drop this as it was speculation on decision criteria for taking a kid and you want to make it a "Does God Exist" debate which I think is inappropriate for this forum. If you wouldn't consider whether the kid has made a fundamental change in his beliefs, fine. If you don't think CBJ would consider this, that's fine too.

(*sigh*) I reiterate: God should watch this one from the stands. I'm in no way trying to make this a "Does God exist" debate.....I'm trying to get y'all to leave God out of it, the way it SHOULD be. What if instead of it being Jeryl Brazil, it's Amir Muhammad, a devout Muslim?? What's your opinion then?? What if it's Jimmy Starkiller, someone who believes in the Force, and goes to the Church of Star Wars?? What if it's Moogoo Gaipan, a Buddhist?? What if it's Joe Jimcrack, a Jehovah's Witness?? Just because someone "found God and knows the difference between right and wrong".....whose right or wrong are you referring to, because I'm about 99% sure your definition and mine are completely different. Just because someone found "your God" doesn't make him any better than the aforementioned Amir Muhammad, Jimmy Starkiller, Moogoo Gaipan or Joe Jimcrack. Your God can buy a ticket and watch from the stands just like the rest of us.

Friend, in VolNation, I think, much like America, you are equally entitled to your opinion as Mr. Bond and Brillo are entitled to theirs. Everyone promotes tolerance as long as it serves their world view.

So without a belief in a specific god, man can't understand the difference between right and wrong?

God is the source of all wisdom and understanding, so the man who has God IN him has a Godly world view instead of a worldy god view.

Tell that to the priest that rape children, or the muslims that kidnapped a bunch of kids. I've seem so many people that "believe" in god, but are scum to the core.

I guess the priest were putting god in those kids.

Religion is man-made.

This is so completely unnecessary. Anyone who didn't understand the point of the OP to be something along the lines of "perhaps Jones, who is quite observably a religious man, sees that the kid is trying to turn his life around for spiritual reasons rather than purely selfish ones, and subsequently decides to reward those efforts" is severely deficient in the area of reading comprehension. It's a speculation about Jones, not a speculation about God or lack thereof, and to presume anything otherwise is to miss the point by a country mile. The coach IS a religious man, so I feel the conversation is entirely relevant, but to hijack it by needlessly jumping all over speculation about Jones' motivations as a coach (a common activity that occurs literally every day on this website) is immature and in poor form.

I realize you feel an innate duty to convince everyone to be as godless as you. Good for you for believing in something, even if that something is nothing. Your keyboard heroism on a sports forum has not gone unnoticed, even if it was for all the wrong reasons, but I can assure you that no amount of arguing on the Internet is going to change anyone's mind.

In other news, ole Jeryl just had himself a little girl. Cute kid, too, as far as babies go.

Opinions, I think you are missing the point that he was trying to make about someone changing their life but I have one for you. What about a guy named Jimbob from planet OU812 that believes in Cooter should we tell him to leave him to leave Cooter out of it?

Religion is man-made.

You are correct - religion is man made. And man is sinful in the eyes of a pure and holy God that created man. Which is what you describe in your first paragraph.

To begin the process of being reconciled to that creator requires faith that he in fact created you along with the admission that you have fallen short of his intent for your life. Just like your priest or Muslims examples. Faith is needed, not religion. Faith leads to relationship with your creator, which is where religion ends and life begins.

Which is why it is good to see if an internal compass has been turned on in the case of the player being discussed.

All faith is.... is false hope.

Lol, probably am. I think it is false hope though. If I ever got smashed by a bus, people would celebrate it.

Dude maybe you wouldn't be so depressed and have the woe as me attitude if you had some form of faith in your life. I couldn't imagine living life where everything I see is negative. There is a lot of beauty in life don't focus on the negative all the time.

You're correct. I tried the faith thing, but it didn't work out. It's just a bad day for me. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Personally, I think if a person changes, I don't care what their motivation is. If they change because the found God (whichever God that happens to be), had a child (realized they couldn't be selfish because they have a dependent), or just wanted to make millions in the league and realized it won't happen if the rob pilot customers at BB gun point. Good for them! Butch hath decreed: wearing that Power T is a privilege to be earned. This means it is tough to get but easily taken away.

So I repeat, what affects your change doesn't matter, so long as you represent the T well. But if you don't it should be taken from you immediately. True change must come from within, and there are many ways that can happen, spirituality is just one of them. But true change, in the short term, is easily faked. It separates itself from the counterfeit only in the long term.

Also, if Butch is spiritual, then that is why he represents it well. If it were because he was greedy and vain, he would have left for USCw as soon as the job came open.

So, if I feel like coming on here and spewing negativity, intolerance and blatant racism, it's OK as long as I can qualify it with a simple, "I'm having a bad day."

And when I come here tomorrow and want to actually talk about UT sports, all will be forgotten because "I'm feeling better today." What a crock, dude.

You are not alone - most look all of their lives for what they never can find on their own. Few admit it. I have deep respect for your willingness to admit it, bud.

The answer is to not try. You do nothing but accept a free gift from God. His son did all of the work. None of us are worthy because we are all screw-ups. lol. He knows your heart and if you are serious about his offer. If you choose to go with him, you let go of your burdens and past. Everything changes and you see and live life differently, through his son's eyes. What everybody else does to hurt one another is not your burden to bear. Your responsibility is to love God and other people while helping them as you are able.

Don't fall for his garbage. Some people need help and welcome it others need help and just want the attention.
