Ghana is an aging team. I think we finally beat them. In fact I think we beat them 3-0 or 3-1.

portugal played Germany tight in the Euro's and Ghana played them tight in the last world cup - I know that has been awhile - but I think the assumption that GER comes in with 2 wins is a bit premature - they very well may but its far from a given - also the idea that they will just lay down and let us tie or win is wishful thinking - reality is their 2nd team has a better chance of winning the cup than our first team - maybe not as big of a gap as some past years but their 2nd team is still more talented than our first

itll be fun to see how we do - but this was just a really bad draw for us and I don't see us having much a shot to advance - jmo

ummmm....but we beat Germany last year in a friendly?

You're right that Germany's B team is just or good or better than our A team. I personally don't think Portugal is that great outside of Ronaldo. I think 4 points in the first 2 games is a reasonable goal, IMO.

key word being friendly - if you think that is indicative of how they will play a world cup I think you are crazy

Yeah I'm sure they didn't care if they lost....no big deal. I guess a friendly is for tea and crumpets, not soccer. If we can beat them in a friendly, we can beat them in the WC.

I never thought it'd be so hard to find a summer job with a bachelors degree and being a grad student... Unreal.

No doubt...I've got three degrees and looking for a job right now. Lost mine almost a year ago now. It gets discouraging. Nobody wants to hire anyone it seems...especially a 34 year old doing odd jobs and just any kind of work.

Now that we have this awesome thread, I can drop in here with a World Cup preview and no one can complain. For the soccer lovers, :hi: For the haters, :Bbiteme:

Group A: Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, Cameroon.
Brazil is the obvious pick to win the group. Who will finish 2nd? Croatia and Mexico have talent, but are flawed sides. I'll give the advantage to Mexico since the World Cup is in the Western Hemisphere and the Mexicans will have lots of crowd support.

Group B: Spain, Netherlands, Chile, Australia
Probably the toughest group as any of Spain, Netherlands, and Chile could win the group. I'm gonna predict Spain crashes out since they have 2 sides in the Champions League final and may come in tired. 1st place: Dutch, 2nd place: Chile. Australia has no chance.

Group C: Colombia, Greece, Ivory Coast, Japan.
Really interesting group. Columbia has been playing well so I'll take them to win the group. Greece doesn't have enough ability to score and Ivory Coast hardly plays to their potential. I'll take Japan to finish the group in 2nd.

Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy
Can England advance out of this group? I don't think so. I'll take Italy to win the group, followed by Uruguay in 2nd.

Group E: Switzerland, Ecuador, France, Honduras
How lucky can France get? They go from on the cusp of not making the World Cup to drawing the easiest group. France will win the group, and I'll take Honduras as a surprise 2nd place finisher. Honduras is an athletic team and I don't believe Switzerland and Ecuador can score enough.

Group F: Argentina, Bosnia, Iran, Nigeria
Argentina wins the group followed by Bosnia. Bosnia is a good side and will give teams trouble in this tournament.

Group G: Germany, Portugal, Ghana, USA
Germany wins the group. USA gets revenge on Ghana and holds down Ronaldo to take that 2nd spot. I'm a homer, can't pick any different.

Group H: Belgium, Algeria, Russia, Korea
For those who don't know, Belgium is stacked. They win the group followed by Russia.

Brazil is too young and there is too much pressure to win the World Cup on home soil, IMO. I'll take Argentina to win the whole thing. Lukaku from Belgium will win the golden boot.

Some bold predictions, Dust. I don't have time to make any but I can't wait to see the games!

Ok, we close on our new house next Wednesday, fiancé went and got a dog today in her excitement without my consultation and its a mix Husky/ German Shepard (female). Good or no? Oh and we have a 2 yr old and 4 yr old.

I don't imagine it will be a problem as long as you love it to death. Neither breed are known for a bad temperament. German Shepherd are only mean when trained to be mean on command from my experience. Both are good companion dogs, very loyal by nature. But it's still mostly nurture and not as much nature when it comes to dogs. Just train it properly and praise praise praise! You'll be fine.

I had a husky/ German Shepard male mix. He lived to about 15 until hip dysplasia got him. Was an amazing dog, I'm sure you'll love her.

I would just make sure that you let the kids play with the dog a lot. If it grows up being familiarized with kids being rough with it then it will be a normal thing and the dog won't be bothered by it.

But I'm mostly talking out of my ass here..

Yea I want lil sissy to be able to tote the dog around by the neck all be it playfully for now and one day the dog is willing to risk it's life to defend her. As f'd up as I think the Germans were I somehow trust their dog breeding supremacy. I mean hell I heard they only wanted blue eyed blond haired babies, if you take breeding to that level surely you can create a good dog.

Awesome mix. My wife and I have a German Shepherd/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix that is a great dog. A couple we're friends with has a little four year old girl, and our dog will obey commands she gives.

Definitely get the kids around it early and often. It's also a good idea with any puppy to get it out around other dogs and people in public while it's young. Helps make sure it's friendly around anyone.

Yes....very good advice. Husky/German Shepherd mix is a good one...enjoy :) My dad and I used to breed Siberian Huskies as well as German Shepherds. A few times we let a couple cross-breed. They turned out to be wonderful dogs and had people asking for more.

General interest - what degrees? I'm close to my third too, and job hunting is terrifying.
