To me, it can be a few different things. Servers ignoring what customers ask for or not taking the time to get things right is an annoyance (granted, if somebody asks for 8 special things to be done with their meal I can't blame them, but ignoring something like "no onions" on a sandwich gets to me).

The main thing that gets me is a server who, if not busy, still manages to ignore a table.

Sounds fair. You have to do the basic job correctly and with a smile. If I was a waiter, I'd be annoyed by the snobs who make 8 special requests.
Ignoring my table would land a zero dollar tip.

Burger do you hate boxing?

Do you know what goes on in a pile in football? I played football in HS. I swear I thought on multiple occasions dude is going to squash my grapes. Players spit in faces, grab anything they can get hold of and twist.

I do know what went on in dogpiles, I was In the bottom. You get punched and kicked, but not bitten.

Boxing is boring. They just jump around the ring for three minutes. If they swung more, I'd watch.

Do you think biting wouldn't go on if not for face masks?

People are crazy in every sport.

Players unlikely to be on the next World Cup team:
Howard, Dempsey, Beasley, Beckerman, Jones, Zusi

Players likely to have a bigger role:
Green, Mix, Yedlin, Johannson

Player to watch: Gedion Zelalem (Arsenal youth player who could play for the US.)

Projected starting lineup: (obviously subject to change in 4 years)

Guzan
Yedlin, Gonzalez, Besler, Johnson
Cameron, Bradley
Johannson, Mix, Green
Jozy

Altidore is not in this discussion?

Something funny that happened a couple of times is that one of us ordered a meat and asked that it be cooked a certain way. Each time it was cooked perfectly (it was prime rib) and each time when the manager came by to check on us we made sure we told him about it. Each time he told the chef in the kitchen about it and the chef came out to thank us, the last time he sent us out free pie.
Pretty cool of him I thought.

Did your coaches not train you how to do that? :)

Got him locked in as a starter. Didn't mention him as a bigger contributor since he is already a sure fire starter, when healthy.

Gotcha. That would be Jozy I take it. Still becoming familiar with these guys.

Edit: That's a "gotcha" as in I see what you did there.

Gratitude goes a very long way with the workers in a restaurant.

Warren Sapp didn't leave a tip at a restaurant because the waitress called him and his crew boys.
How do you guys feel about tipping bad service?

If the service sucks, I won't tip at all.

I've hated all things Warren Sapp related ever since the cheap shot on Clifton. Not only is Clifton a VFL he is from down the street. Sapp didn't even own up to it being dirty he just defended his sorry azz self. Hope the POS nut sack blows up.

Servers in some states have it made. I met a guy in Seattle who is a bartender. He makes $9/hr base pay, plus tips. Said he easily averages $30/hr, so he only works 20-25 hours a week. Spends the rest of his time doing cool outdoor stuff in the Pacific Northwest.

At the time, I was an office monkey chained to my cubicle. Moving to Washington State permanently right then and there and living that lifestyle sounded very, very appealing.

I hate Sapp to for the exact same thing. I'm a huge Clifton fan.

So with the WC I keep reading and hearing from commentators that FIFA is big time corrupt with a lot of nationalistic legislation issues and back scratching. How does that impact how you that are soccer lovers look at the WC and the sport internationally? Sounds like it might be WWF type junk to me, just more popular.

And Warren Sapp is a low life - FWIW.

Another former server here. I worked in restaurants all through getting my bachelors at UT and had a blast. I've definitely remained a generous tipper. I'm also the guy that stacks all the dishes and trash to make it easier for the server to pre-bus.

One of my serving pet peeves that hasn't been mentioned is not getting greeted soon after you're sat. Even if I was slammed, if I got sat I would at least swing by and tell them I'd be taking care of them and be back asap to get their drink order.

Honestly, FIFA is a reason I'm not as into soccer as American Football. They are run by hypocrites to the highest degree. For example, they have a #sayNoToRacism campaign yet they award a country (Qatar) with an anti Jew policy for their customs with a World Cup host assignment. They have a law against letting Jews in the country. How stupid can FIFA possibly be? They also get their jollies by picking countries that have to spend BILLIONS of dollars building new stadiums that they'll never use again. South Africa signed that last statement.

FIFA also settles. The worst thing to happen to FIFA will be when other sports such as baseball, basketball and American football gain in popularity because they'll have no idea how to fight the globalization of that kind of competition. FIFA stopped at 75% of their potential from a global standpoint when they chose to ignore the USA. Its just stupid. USA citizens have too much money to spend to ignore it and the marketing data is there. For free.

It's about as bad as the IOC. There was a huge thing about Qatar landing the cup due to bribery.

I hate FIFA, but the corruption is generally with things like where the world cup will be. I haven't seen any evidence of match fixing in the World Cup, so I don't let that bother me too much. I definitely don't see it as WWF like. If it were Spain, Italy and England wouldn't have gone home so early and Costa Rica sure wouldn't still be alive.

I view FIFA like the NCAA it's a governing body and it sucks and is corrupt and hypocritical, but it doesn't stop me from loving the sport.

Yes! I hate to sound like a dick, but I was a server for a few years so I've earned it. I am there to be waited on. I don't expect someone to hover over my table all night, but don't ignore me.

I can't stand the "we're slammed" argument. It may take a minute to get my order, but stop by so I know I'm not forgotten. There is no such thing as too busy, unless you as a waitstaff member are not good or your boss has you spread too thin. If it's the former, you don't deserve a good tip. If it's the latter, I hope everybody stiffs you. Then I hope you and all your colleagues quit and find better employers who are not so cheap as to realize that an extra staff member costs like $25.00 a night in wages. Then, I hope the turnover and bad service shuts down the restaurant so it is not competition for good restaurants with less foolish management. Just my $0.02.

Thanks 88, Burger and Bruce for your posts. They really helped me understand what I have been reading and hearing. When I watch now I can keep it all in perspective. And like Volatil I cannot stand the flopping. I hate it in basketball as well. It is one thing to actually get knocked down, it's another to be an actor.

It now makes sense why they handle the extra time the way they do. Most every sport has timed time outs and clock stoppages. It is all so arbitrary for a suspect reasons. The athletes are really special though. Howard was amazing. He was left out on an island so often as the US defense fell apart.

I see FIFA and the NCAA as pretty much the same corrupt organization. The NCAA can't keep me from loving Tennessee and FIFA can't keep me from loving soccer.

It's definitely wrong to not tip a server whatsoever, barring that the server did not say/do something offensive/inappropriate. Servers have bad days just as anyone else. They have to deal with people. They aren't making a great deal of money, either. If the service is not good, I still tip. If it's good, I tip more.
