Agree to disagree. Baptism is a re-enactment of the death burial and resurrection according to scripture. Paul says you are buried with Christ then when you come up out of the water you are raised to a new life. Sprinkling doesn't match that description.

It's all symbolism as you suggest. It's ritualistic. God is more concerned with the heart. If a guys in the desert and is reborn with sand poured over his head, it the same in God's eye.

I hate to wade (har-har) into this baptism discussion, but I have been both poured as an infant and immersed. I'd love to discuss in depth as to the reasons why, but I'm afraid it's just too much to type out. Long story short, I just went where the Lord and scripture led me. If we ever met up in person, this would be a great conversation.

As far as our faith goes, this is a secondary issue and not one that divides us. Carry on.

Where is the authority in the scriptures to make such a direct statement that God accepts baptism by sprinkling? By sand? I just want to see some scriptural justification, because I don't want to continue believing something that's wrong, if I'm missing something pertaining to this.

You admitted that there is no doubt all the baptisms that are recorded in the NT were via immersion. If so, where did God tell us and give us the authority to change the practice of baptism by immersion to something different? God tells us in Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." Look at all of the laws He instituted for worship and sacrifice in the OT...it is very easy to say that all of those sacrifices and the way to perform them could have become ritualistic. It's exactly why He struck Nadab and Abihu dead during their consecration period, because they went outside the laws that He gave of how to perform the sacrifices. They offered unauthorized fire, and God set the tone immediately to Israel and let them know that they had better not go outside of what He had commanded them to do.

Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:5 that he must be born again of the water and Spirit. God tells us in Revelation 22:18-19 to not add nor take away from His word. By saying you can be baptized via sand, are you not adding to God's word? The Ethiopian eunuch and Phillip were traveling through the desert when the eunuch wanted to be baptized...they found water. I honestly believe that's one of the reasons God made this earth to be composed of 75% water...so that whenever someone wants to be baptized, they can find a body of water that is just big enough to immerse him/her.

Not trying to continue this firestorm on baptism, however, I am going to link an article that may be helpful (or not) relating to the subject. It's up to you to trust the non-profit source.

The act of accepting the sacrificial offering of Christ and his blood offering on the Cross as a substitute for all mankind's sin is complete. His resurrection proved without a shadow of a death he had conquered death and is who he said he is. Our acceptance provides for our salvation. Baptism completes the transformation into our new life with him. There are several forms of baptism depending on the situation of the Christian.

As I stated I prefer immersion for the water baptism. However, scripture is clear there are other forms. Not meant to offend, however, it is simply wrong to assume all Christians past, present and future have the opportunity to be near a body of water for immersion before they die. That is not thought out very well and there is an obvious example of it on the cross beside Jesus. There are areas of the deserts of the Middle East and Northern Africa where the faith began and continues today that only have water sporadically from springs where one captures water with a pot. Baths are infrequent and in what we would call a sponge bath form without the sponge. Our God is much bigger than even baptismal waters suggest. He loves the worst sinner as much as the best and seeks none to be lost.

Be blessed and have a great day.
