If you're going to go down that path, you have to admit that the Potter has the right to smash his own pots that he made, especially if they have rebelled against him; but no one has the right to smash the pots made by the potter unless he tells them to.

Pots don't have feelings or sentience. If they did, the potter might still have that right, but it would still be cruel and petty.

When making a jab it is best to keep your jaw protected.

jave and 88 handled this. But your inference is rooted in your hatred of God, since you respond this way frequently when the subject drifts that direction. That means you have set yourself up as the authority of a subject you do not believe in. Which is pointless.

The poor pitiful Canaanites you refer to:

The Ignorant Fishermen Blog: Baalism's Suicidal Nature Worship and Sexual Decadence

"This pagan nature worship was purposefully described with such graphic sexual language precisely because cult prostitution and sexual mysticism was a big part of the nature worship process. Sexual fertility cults and the desire for a corresponding agricultural fertility were weaved together into a pornographic nature worship scheme that corrupted the entire nation and its people. Throughout Israel’s and Judah’s history, this deviant and natural instinctual behavior, in great contrast to the dictates of the Mosaic Law, was most often associated with the worship of the nature god Baal. Baal was the god of grain and the god of thunder. He was in fact the weather god. The name Baal itself simply means ‘lord.’ Thus, as the tribal lord of the people and the land, Baal was not only often confused with the ‘Lord’ of the Old Testament, but he was also in charge of agricultural fertility and the weather.

However, Baal was not all powerful like the Hebrew God. On the contrary, he was forced each and every year to have a life and death struggle with the god of death, Mot, reflecting the fate of the seasons. Baal dies every summer under the excessive heat and drought. Baal however, with the help of sexual and bloody rituals, comes back to life to defeat Mot for the cooler autumn weather and the fall rain. Thus the chaotic weather was blamed on the struggle between Baal and Mot, which could only be pacified through cultic prostitution on the one hand and strict asceticism on the other. Thus, in addition to sexual abandon, the worship of Baal also incorporated harsh ascetic practices into their nature worship as well. Ecstatic pleasure and bloody pain were used to propitiate the nature gods for the sake of fair weather (1 Kings 18:25-29). Thus, Baal nature worship was completely indulgent with regard to sexual mysticism on the one hand, but overly strict, harsh, and severe on the other hand with regard to ascetic practices, with occasional bouts of human sacrifice along the way (2 Kings 17:28-41). Worst of all is that much energy and riches were spent in the promotion and practice of the cult. Israel wasted its wealth and activities on the worship of Baal, which eventually led to the nation’s downfall."

Yep - real fine folks those Canaanites.

I'm sure the babies, inside and outside of their mother, who were murdered were awful people.

I get what you're saying, but I also have a hard time judging someone who has an abdominal pregnancy rupture before a survivable term. Under a no exemption view you'd necessarily have to allow the mother to bleed to death and die only to precognizantly also have their underdeveloped baby die three minutes later. It's a complicated issue. Also, the pro-life movement as an organized movement is about changing hearts and minds to voluntarily reduce and hopefully largely eliminate abortion. There is almost 0 % chance of abortion ever being illegal by law thanks to an un-Constitutional decision by the Supreme Court in Roe v Wade. Because of that all we can do is try and convince people to choose to not do it while simultaneously putting pressure on abortion mills though both public scrutiny and through local, state, and federal restrictions designed to regulate practices and prevent people like Kermit Gosnell from practicing at all.

It is definitely a tough and scary situation. My wife and I actually had a scare where we thought she had an ectopic pregnancy. And we knew the recommendation was to get rid of it. But in doing our research, we found out that even though it's a small chance, and it's dangerous to he mother, we talked and were preparing to go forward with the pregnancy and risk it because of our principles and our belief in the sanctity of life. And what parent wouldn't risk
Their life to save their children's life?

Thankfully It turned out it wasn't ectopic, but she sadly ended up having a miscarriage.

But anyways, even though it's a tough and scary choice, our personal choice was to honor our belief in life and trying to give the child the chance to live.

That was our personal choice. As vols4us said, that's a small percentage of cases where that choice has to be made.

Again, if you're going to use part of the Bible, you have to use all of it. Humans are to God as pots are to humans. Actually, that's a poor analogy, because an infinite being is even farther above humans than humans are above pots. And it isn't cruel and petty, it's justice. He could wipe the earth out totally and it would be simply justice.

Totally agree, in theory. When you're all powerful you get to define any and everything. So you can do all sorts of messed up stuff and and define it however you want.

Like, you could create a pizza with all the intelligence, self awareness, and nerve endings of a person. And you could cut it up with a pizza cutter for having dirty thoughts about the dipping sticks you made as a side. And then you could feed it all to a unicorn and make the dipping sticks watch as they're drowned in marinara for tempting the pizza. And you could totally define that as justice.

I mean, being all powerful would probably mean there's better methods available, but where's the fun in that?

Once the topic turned to abortion, one knew the religious zanies would come out. Conception is a human biological process--"god" has nothing to do with, as there is no "god." It comforts many people to believe in "god" and "heaven," etc.--but it's all nonsense, as any thinking person realizes. But many people fear death, and think there must be more to our lives than our corporeal existence, and hence the "god" thing...I get the fear and the desire, but it doesn't change the fact that religion is nonsense. Funny how all religions have their old books, supposedly, their prophets, their crazy stories and beliefs. The Mormons have some comical ideas....all religions do.

RE abortion, how about we let women make their owns decisions? Last I checked, abortion was a federal right--and has been for decades, but we have religious and conservative crazies-- most of them middle-aged male idiots in red-state American--trying to take away that right (via state laws) and foist their silly morality on women (and everybody else). They're boobs. Conservative politicians are the biggest morons and hypocrites on the planet: They want to force women--most of them poor, to have babies that will grow up disadvantaged and with problems, and many of the kids will end up on the street, in foster homes or in prison. These conservative politicians are the same men who NEVER miss an opportunity to stick it to the poor and disadvantaged in America; they want to cut social spending dramatically. In Kansas and Louisiana, they've given tax breaks to the wealthy that have created big budget deficits--which they then try to fix by tightening restrictions for the disabled to get Medicaid benefits, by cutting public education funds for colleges, etc. It's venal. Conservatives are on the wrong side of most issues. And yet southern working class people vote for them--vote against their own economic interests, as the GOP has nothing but disdain for working people. But a lot of rural Americans fret about multiculturalism and abortion and religion instead of the real problems in this country. They're just not very smart, to be candid.

As for Trump: people with little education like him because he has a big, brash personality and seems successful. He's the biggest bull$hitter we've seen in decades. He knows very little about anything--which is why he quickly goes off-topic and resorts to insulting his political opponents. He's crass--a classic bully. That said, he's no more full of crap than most pols--he just lies more aggressively. That said, he has struck a chord by emphasizing illegal immigration--which America did ignore for too long--and his talk about how American workers have been screwed by free trade policies is true and resonates with a lot of people. I'm a Democrat and will vote for Hillary, though I like Bernie's message. While conservatives like to prattle stupidly about "socialism," they fail to realize that corporations are the real enemy in America--big companies run by greedy, corrupt vastly overpaid executives who exist to screw consumers and employees, the better to raise the stock price of their companies, to which their huge bonuses are tied. Our executive compensation system in America is a scandal--as is our health-care system with astronomical prices for everything--five times more expensive than prices in, say, Europe (which has good health care systems).

If I had to pick between Trum and Cruz, it would be no contest: I'd pick Trump. Why? Because Trump is not really a crazy conservative; his abortion comments were strictly to gain support from the religious zanies who constitute a large portion of the GOP base. Trump, to his credit, does not care about abortion. Cruz, on the other hand, is a greasy, unctuous crazy person. Tell me he doesn't remind you of every televangelist you've ever seen--with the same fraudulent "family values." He'd be far more dangerous than Trump, IMO. I'm just waiting for the first avowed atheist to run for president--we need it. It's funny that so many Americans wouldn't vote for someone who said that he doesn't actually believe in some fantasy figure named 'god.' Weird. We need more secularism, less religion--but of course that kind of thinking scares the bejesus out of believers, much like evolution. You gotta deal with reality.

Views like this really sadden me. But it is definitely your choice to make. However I would sincerely ask that you please not be so hostile with your statements, with the condescending derision and the name-calling.

Didn't you know? All Christians are ignorant, uneducated rubes.

It appears some feel that way. Disagreements are going to happen. But Why do some use that as a license to belittle , verbally attack, and impugn the intelligence and even character of those they disagree with? Unless there is evidence of someone proving themselves to be a purposefully bad person, then why the charges/attacks?

There's always one in the crowd. This is a prime example of what we're up against. It must be defeated.

While I wouldn't identify as an atheist, I do whole-heartedly agree in the separation of church and state, religion should have no place in politics and yet it is the driving force of many. The government should govern and not serve as the morale police. That is the standard of a truly civilized society. Let people be free to worship or not worship however they choose.

I am a Christian and I agree with this.

It rubs me the wrong way to see politicians like Cruz use Christianity in a way that ultimately only brings Ted Cruz more glory. He makes me feel like he's only bringing up his faith to try to gain my vote. It just sounds like another talking point. If being a Christian is who you are. Great. But being a Christian has to be greater than just using church lingo to draw a rise from a crowd. It's being renewed in your thinking and being driven by seeing others changed by the gospel. I feel like many politicians are only using "religion" to cover a greater demographic.

I would honestly be okay if he just said he was not a Christian. That would be fine. In that case, I would respect his honesty. I don't think somebody has to be a Christian to be a good president.

I'm not even trying to doubt Cruz's faith. Or Trumps. Or anyone else's. Who am I to judge their hearts? That's between them and God. I'm just discouraged, because many on the fringe end up believing that that's all Christ offers. Become a Christian so you can do the right thing and vote republican!

More and more I'm seeing that my hope will never lie in a politician coming in and fixing everything for me.

Also..... Christians are doing it all wrong if the world is only seeing us as some type of moral police. What a shame that is.
