They very well might. They lost to OM, A&M, Mizzou, and USC that year. Those schools are not even close to what they were in 2013.

Yeah, but at the same time 4 of their wins came against

1. The worst UF team since maybe before Spurrier (they lost to Georgia Southern!)
2. A UGA team that was so injured their fans weren't even that upset at Mark Richt for going 8-5.
3. A UT team whose upside probably topped out around 7 wins (with some bounces going their way).
4. A 2-10 UK team

I'm not sure the 2013 Vandy team wins more than 1 game against against the 2017 version of those opponents. They sure as heck wouldn't run the table against them. They'd likely win at least 2 of the 4 games you mentioned in your post, though.

That vandy game is specifically what I'm referring to. I'm not trying to say that I knew all along butch would be bad. I'm just saying that there were enough hiccups in the first three years that some doubt was left in the back of my mind. I ignored it because of the great recruiting. Thought butch would maximize the talent he had. He did to a degree. He just couldn't develop depth consistently

I know what you mean.

I don't think that 2013 loss to Vandy was like a terrible loss or anything. However, I do think that's a game you look back at in hindsight and say "yeah, a good coach/coaching staff would have found a way to win that game with a bowl appearance on the line."

Put a coach like Justin Fuente in the same position and I don't see it coming down to a QB sneak at the end of the game for a chanace to get the ball back.

That NFL OL couldn't get a yard to seal the game.

They were good enough to convert multiple 4th downs against UGA and keep Clowney from ending the game against USCe

My only point is that it's not like that Vandy team was on a different level than us that year. We had enough talent to get that win.

Many time fights and scuffles breakout in and around a football program. Ist of the time the teammates patch things up and move on. I've even seen them become good friends. This appears to be a pretty substantial injury. Could NW and ST be able to patch things up and put this behind them?

When I played in HS in the late 60s there were fights in practice and in the lockerroom, a lot. Three fraternities in the school, each well a represented on the team, and feuding all the time. Plus guys fighting over the same girls, and it was a town of roughly 30k, with 2 HSs in the county and only one in the city limits, so the school, and the team, were a mix of kids from wealthy, middle class, working class, and poor families, which all created tension and conflict. But we all had one goal on Friday nights and could get along during the game...for the most part.

That line is definitely trying to bait people to betting UT, not UGA.

And to me, that was more of a momentum sparking win for UGA than some emotional, cathartic victory.

Betting wise, I don't think this sets up favorably for UT at all. That doesn't mean I don't think we have a chance, but I'm not investing money in it.

I personally think it is wise to never bet on your favorite team. Too much emotion involved.

Hilarious talk over there.

My one and only JBC story comes from Fulmer's last season. Jr attended camp when he was 8 or 9. It was a great experience. Kid had so much fun except for one thing...

JBC had a drill set up where kids were to dive over tackling dummies onto a large padded area in the endzone. Cooter was standing there with an arm pad a tapping the kids as they dove. Jr being a bigger kid goes to dive and JBC absolutely blasts him with the arm pad. Ball flies about 10 feet in the air. Jr goes flying sideways. I laughed so hard had tears streaming down my face.

JBC came over and apologized to me and Jr. Told him "for what? Dude you just made my day."

Jr isn't a fan to this day 😂

We all hope the Vols win Saturday. Except SCvolfan I think. I hope its a Vol win by beatdown. But if not, I hope its clear enough that Butch is done. We need an elite coach so that we can be an elite football team. Butch is not an elite coach. That's all.

I agree with all except the second to last sentence. I'd put an "almost certainly not" instead of an "is not." I'd also add that while I'm not going to defend his every move, I'm pulling for him to figure this thing out and become an elite coach. Again I'd rather go 10-2 this year and win the East and land a top 10 recruiting class then head off into the abyss and uncertainty of a coaching search. There is Alabama who finally got it right. And then there is Norte Dame and Nebraska and countless others who are still searching for glory and may never get it right.

But to your point I'd rather it be clear what we should do with Butch one way or the other.

People acting like JBC would not be a good coach in the FF crack me up. You don’t get a coordinator position and keep it in the NFL if you’re not a good coach. He would be a better coach than what we currently have. And the simple fact is if his name was John Smith we would all be salivating over him like he was Jon Gruden

Meh....JBC is on the same level as Butch imo. If that's who we hire then we need to go ahead and get another AD. That would be the most underwhelming hire.

The glaring question with JBC is recruiting. Never had to do it. No doubt he's a good coach.

I think even with a win the picture will remain murky. UGA would be a big feather in his cap. Vandy, KY, and USCe are must wins imo. Lose one of those all the goodwill from beating UGA will evaporate.

Vandy loss cannot happen

2-3 against Vandy in 5 years. That should not and will not be acceptable at Tennessee.
