It's indeed a dumb stat, but point remains that UT hasn't beaten a top-ten team at the time of the game since 2006 UGA. Last top five win was 2005 LSU.

What they are ranked at the time of the game is ultimately meaningless. But yeah, it's another great way to show how the once proud and mighty Vols have fallen.

Used to be endless stats on how long it had been since we beat any ranked team, then a ranked team on the road, then won a bowl game, then won in Athens, then beat Florida, etc.

Realistic coaches I'd like to see Currie target:

Tier 1: Kelly, Patterson, and of course, Gruden

Tier 2: Mullen, PJ Fleck, Brohm, Fuente

Tier 3: Tee Martin, Venables

Our next head coach should come from this list imo, unless Peterson is a guy who would listen then add him also.

The Gruden love on here is crazy. Dude is not a tier 1 coach.

He hasn't coached in a decade. He hasn't coached college in three decades. He had a reputation of relying on vets and disliked developing young talent. His super bowl came on the back of Dungy's guys in his first season with Tampa. He got fired because five of his last six seasons were mediocre to bad.

What is it about him that everyone thinks is so great?

Scramble for 2 yards? Run straight into defenders that he should've seen while scrambling? More than a few time with the zone read? He should've demolished the UMass D (QD should've also) and there is nothing that shows he's better than QD and deserves the starting nod. Nothing.

I've seen that too. JG doesn't look very fluid or intuitive when he runs. Dormady has looked better the few times he has taken off. I realize JG is a lot faster but if he runs straight into a defender it doesn' t matter. I really miss that smart man with no eyebrows. He was a wizard with the football.

Even if you go end-of-year top ten, UT still just 1-9 (2013 South Carolina) under CBJ, 1-22 since 2008. Pre-2013 SoCar, last top ten/five win was 2007 UGA.

So far I've figured out that the QB situation leaves alot to be desired. Most of us thought that could be a strength this season. Seems to be a glaring weakness that to be honest has been a surprise to me.

Anytime a team is breaking in a new QB it isn't smart to assume it is going to be a strength of the team

Will a win Saturday change opinions?

Of course. Butch is judged by what he produces on the field, and beating a top 10 UGA team with a ton of momentum on its side while we look incredibly weak and vulnerable would be huge for him.

That said, it wouldn't change my opinion of him as a coach who will never really get it done here. Just that he's capable of rising to the occasion when he's completely cornered and needs a win to save his job.

SBV what if Butch somehow (don't think there is a chance myself) beats GA- but then craps the bed against SC, loses to Alabama (that's a given), and loses to either KY or Vandy. What would be the reason to keep him? To be champions of 8 win seasons? He is the worst gameday coach I have ever seen, even with the recruiting class for 2018 what has he shown to deserve to be here next year? He will just screw up with those players development and personnel decisions too.

No. Still have to finish the year. What if it turned out like last year and lose to vandy and sc/ky? Just cause you win against UGA doesn't make up for the rest of the year. It would be like we beat bama but finish 6-6 or 5-7. Is that excusable just cause we beat them. I don't think so JMO.

42-17 Dawgs

Yeah, UGA looks really good on both sides of the ball right now. I can't see our D stopping that 3-headed monster rushing attack they have, with or without Shy, and unless our OL shows more energy than they did against UMass, the UGA defense will stifle our O. Our OL played pretty well the first 3 games, so I am hoping last week was just an anomaly because of the UF hangover and the early start, and because the crowd was not into it. But if they look that against UGA, the game will look similar to the 2016 Bama game. That MLB for UGA, Smith (#3), is a beast, that like Al Wilson, can wreak havoc on an offense.

I think it is a bit concerning that Johnson look disinterested in even catching that ball. Talking about a guy that was having a great game and giving great effort then was so lazy barely lifting his hands. There were times in ISU game where it seemed like OL just let people by without much effort.....just something odd I've noticed about player effort around JG in limited action.

Think there needs to be something to happen to get these guys to rally around each other as it seems like a divided team similar to the year Ainge/Clausen had their battle

I have thought this exact thing in regards to the players not playing as hard when JG is in. I don't think the team is divided over the QB situation...I think they know QD is better, and that JG is getting some snaps because he threw a temper tantrum and threatened to transfer. Butch folded and gave him snaps, because he would only have 2 scholarship QBs if he transferred. The players have taken it in their own hands and ostercized him by not blocking as hard and not catching the ball. JMO.

100% agree

Agreed depending on how the 4 losses go. The first to fl it was a dog fight to the end and the team competed. If the other 3 turns out to be blowouts and the team doesn't even compete you could see a change with 4 losses.

The rock has been painted again.

"Will trade scholarships for Butch's buyout."

This is going to get so ugly this season. There is only one way that good can come from this...if he hasn't lost his players, they will come out mad as hornets to play for him

Catbone Curry didn't extend Butch after last years 8-4 regular season record. Why would he deserve to be extended this year for the same result (if he even achieves that and I don't see it as atrocious as our offense can look)? Plus many fans have turned on Butch so keeping him next year is a risk in that regard.

I was hoping that would have been the case last week and they def fell flat on their faces. Hopefully with how they played last week wakes them up, cause we def could have and probably should have lost that game Saturday.

Anyone wanna go on the record on what the minimum it'll take to keep butch? I think he stays at 8-4 and is a coin toss at 7-5

Who knows. It all changes week to week. 3-1 is probably exactly what most people predicted this team to be at this point. The apathy is what is so dangerous, though. Think about it. If Tennessee loses this weekend people might be discussing firing Jones mid-week. But realistically, most people had UT losing to UGA before this season anyway. If, Tennessee does somehow beat UGA this weekend it will simply stave off the torches and pitchforks till the team loses again. He is getting close to a lose/lose situation, and I feel sorry for the team, because any accomplishments that they might achieve will be overlooked because the fan base has made up their mind about the coach. Hell, at this point I think if Jones won the East this year, our fans would complain because he would be retained for another year. Regardless of how much you love or have invested in your favorite football program, bad mouthing and condemning your current coach who still has a chance to have a good season is damaging for the program now and in the future.
