Good point, Cat. I just think there's a lot more going on than "if Butch isn't THE guy, he needs to be fired."

The amount of risk related to the transaction of attempting to get THE guy is very high. Doesn't mean you don't try, but it also means you don't double down on the immediate chance just because at some point you will try.

I think the roster and recruiting are a large factor. If you make a change this year it isn't a rebuild, but if we struggle the rest of the year and recruiting drops off but we don't make a change..... if you know he isn't the guy, each year you kick the can down the road recruiting will suffer more and that will make it more of a rebuilding situation.

Big Jim is old. I doubt he provides much input anymore. I think you are putting too much into how much influence the Haslam's really have.

I'm not so sure but I hope you're right. Many have said that the big dog among the boosters is still big Jim.

Haha. There is no evidence that Orgeron or Luke are better than Butch. I wouldn't even put Stoops in front either.

I'm down on Butch but that list is ridiculous. Orgeron was a complete failure at OM, Luke has done nothing, for all the media hyping KY early every year they fall on their face every time so stoops has done nothing.

Agree. Cat's list is ridiculous.

Is there anybody on here who wants to take their child to a game but doesn't have tickets? And lives close enough to go the game tomorrow?

Man I would if I didn't have to work. My little boy is 5 and is now starting to watch every game with me, he's wanting to go. Thanks for the offer.

Discretion being the better part of virtue and after a big loss which only the context of time will render its significance clear I feel no compulsion to speculate about the future of Tennessee football. I do have to wonder where it really serves any purpose to circulate what can be only characterized as "rumors" that CBJ "wanted out last year," etc.

The coaching staff has a noticeably different profile. The team is deeper and far be it from me to speculate that some of the personnel might be in part to preserve depth in facing the remaining games of the SEC season which all remain save one.

Sure I have my favorites among coaches who are not in Knoxville, but so what. Right now the team has not taken the steps to show that it is collectively bigger than the coaches personality and I do believe that this must happen for Coach Jones to be a success in Knoxville. There are some signs that this could happen. The running back position is poised for a break out season where this instead of the coach could be the dominate narrative for the remaining season. We have seen flashes with Callaway. Derek Taylor and Bituli, Warrior and Gaulden, coupled with a health d-tackle core are not necessarily beyond the prospect of contributing to a transcendent defense.

Does the team rise to the next level and seize the narrative? I believe it is certainly possible and if this happens the tiresome focus on the head coach will have diminished in favor of a new era of football on the hill. These are the prospects that counsel a wait and see attitude for me supporting the team as best I can as a remote fan to take the next step and turn the page toward a successful season.

Nothing I can do about folks who want to force the issue, but it does get tiresome.

I need help.

Mulling things over, I'm in the "Butch will not get us to a championship level year in and year out" camp.

However, what we went through after getting rid of Fulmer, what Texas has gone through after dumping Mack Brown, and what LSU is about to go through after dumping Miles... it all shows that getting rid of your 8-4 guy in hopes to get the "elite" coach is a gamble at best.

I don't know if I'm willing to do that. And I think the fanbase might escalate the situation so much that we're forced into it. Making THE coaching change is allllllllllll about timing. Not changing to make a change. In the modern world of "which side are you on" internet takes.... I'm on the fence.

I agree. If you're going to gamble with some no name, just keep what you have.

Through this year alone it's really not

Then your list has nothing to do with how good the coaches are overall. Your list is how well you think each coach has done with what they had the first three weeks of a season. What a dumb list. 3 weeks is way premature. Might need a trip to the men's clinic. And it doing it that way doesn't take into account what the coach did to put themselves in the situation they were in, roster wise.

Best case scenario is that we go 8-4, and have a mutual parting of ways at the end of the year. But after the Florida game, I don't see him going 8-4 this year.

yeah. I'm sure people would use it to negative recruit. But if it was managed right, could be the chance to really make a big move without the pressure tar and feathering butch would bring.
