Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXXII

Was just reading about the 1951 ship and came across this:

"The 1951 NCAA football season finished with seven unbeaten major college teams, of which five were unbeaten and untied. Ultimately, the Tennessee Volunteers were voted the best team by the Associated Press, followed by the Michigan State Spartans, with the Vols having a plurality of first place votes (139 to 104). Tennessee lost in the Sugar Bowl to the equally undefeated and untied #3 Maryland Terrapins, but the postseason games were not taken into account by the major polls. Tennessee, Maryland, Michigan State, and Illinois all claim national championships for 1951."

I had no idea that we lost the sugar bowl to the No. 3 team who actually finished undefeated.

And that 3 other teams claim that as a title.

Yep that's why ESPN always lists us with 4 Nattys instead of our perceived 6. Some sources have us with as much as 10 and as low as 3 I think.

Had to share this...there's a link on TN's Bleacher Report page to where Bleacher Report predicts 5*s will go...Title reads "Will Tennessee Land Trey Smith on NSD?"

You and me...same wavelength

I realize that this class is not what we wanted, in terms of ranking, for sure. We had some misses that we really wanted, but I am committed to not crapping on any of these player's day today. This is one of the biggest days of their lives and I am happy for those that will be signing to give their all for Tennessee. GBO!!

If you guys are wanting some drama today, pay attention to Michigan's recruiting. They have three or four targets that are committing today, including a couple they are battling Georgia and Alabama for.
