Probably in a couple of years when Fulmer retires that he'll not even consider the job if approached.

I just don't get it, why hire a short-term AD when you could hire a qualified "lifer" who would be in place for many years?

Fulmer and DB are good friends. It might still be a possibility that DB comes in as Fulmer's #2 and then takes over in a few years.

It just has a feeling of a hire that can be controlled. Maybe I'm way off base.

That's the main difference in Blackburn and Fulmer IMO.

Edit: I mean this is the difference in Fulmer and Blackburn that is leading to the hiring of PF and not DB.

Is that public knowledge? I realize that DB was at UT for about 20 years (so, he started there around 1993).

From Blackburn's UTC Bio:

David Blackburn has over two decades of intercollegiate experience in multiple sport oversight, fundraising, compliance, football operations, and athletic facility management.

Went to the elite 8 last year. Has the number one recruiting class coming in.

And she won't do anything with them. Just sayin. Her teams look lost most of the time. Has, supposedly 3 of the best players in the country on her team now and they look pathetic most of the time.

I'd say actual experience as an AD.

Right. I guess I was thinking along the lines of why Fulmer and not Dave Blackburn.

Obviously experience wasn't a big deal to them because Fulmer has none. Fulmer is more politically savy and well liked (some might say controlled) by the big boosters

Fulmer and Blackburn do share some qualities that I like.

1. Both are alpha males and nobody will mistake them for being weak
2. Both care about winning
3. Both care about UT
4. Both are from Tennessee
5. Both graduated from Tennessee

Hopefully this marks the beginning of a new era where we focus on winning and no longer will the priority be bean counting, being politically correct, financing unneeded facility improvements and new buildings.

Final 247 5* Rankings updated list. 247 has to fill their narrative of having 32 5 star recruits to match the 32 picks in the NFL draft.

#32- Dylan Moses (Bama)
#31- Marvin Wilson (LSU, FSU or USF)
#30- Aubrey Solomon (Michigan, Bama or UGA)
#29- Devonta Smith (LSU, Bama or Miami)
#28- Colby Parkinson (Stanford)
#27- Robert Barnes (Oklahoma)
#26- Donovan Peoples-Jones (Michigan)
#25- Calvin Ashley (Auburn)
#24- Henry Ruggs (new #1 WR- likely Bama)
#23- Jacoby Stevens (LSU)
#22- Tua Tagovailoa (Bama)
#21- Austin Jackson (Probably SC)
#20- Josh Kaindoh (Florida State)
#19- David Mills (Stanford)
#18- Tadarian Moultry (Auburn)
#17- Richard Lecounte III (Georgia)
#16- Shaun Wade (Ohio State)
#15- Labryan Ray (Very likely Bama)
#14- Jay Tuefele (Utah or Ohio State)
#13- Marlon Tuipulotu (Washington)
#12- Jeffery Okudah (Ohio State)
#11- K'Lavon Chaisson (Biggest riser- LSU or Texas)
#10- Barron Browning (Ohio State)
#9- Najee Harris (Bama)
#8- Foster Sarrell (Stanford)
#7- Cam Akers (Florida State)
#6- AJ Epenesa (Iowa)
#5- Trey Smith (Tennessee)
#4- Chase Young (Ohio State)
#3- Alex Leatherwood (Bama)
#2- Jaelen Phillips (UCLA)
#1- Walker Little (Stanford)

Interesting to note Ty Chandler didn't get his fifth and Trey Smith stayed put at no.5.

Also interesting, Dylan Moses (Bama) dropped all the way down to 32 but keeps his 5 star status. If Bama closes with Ruggs, Devonta, Ray and Solomon then they finish with 8 - 5* recruits.

Is it a coincedence that UT commits just never get any respect?

It is the only uniting hire that could have been made. No one is against it inside the building.

Fulmer loves UT. And he loves football.

We all wanted an AD who would put football first. Well this is your guy.

And from a booster perspective he is fantastic.

The entire state and conference respect him.

It is a terrific hire. I never thought it was actually possible but like I said they got this right.

This fits in line closely with LWS comments. The booster Big wigs have been fractured, and Fulmer is the only hire that could get everyone united once again for the common goal and good of TN athletics, especially football. This will turn out great, IMO.

Interesting..No Clemson commits in that.

The problem is that we are always going to have to satisfy Donors who shouldn't meddle in these kinds of decisions. So even if Fulmer is decent, which I have my doubts, then we are constantly stuck in this perpetual motion of going for the meddled option instead of the best option.

Maybe.

Hopefully Fulmer is liked and respected enough to let him do what he thinks is best and we can get away from letting these millionaire crybabies make all of our decisions.

Because the Tennessee family is very dysfunctional. But, at least we're not hiring the maniacal step-dad this time.

I like the (school or school) unless it bama then it's (who are we kidding no one but bama has a chance at 5*s)

Well the two best returners in America were hurt too.

Injuries played a huge part in all three phases of the team. ST was definitely missing Berry and Kamara. Overall the ST play wasn't bad. I don't know if it was Elder's doing or if the injuries were just to much but the return blocking and coverage teams just looked a little worse than the previous year. Again, I think ST was good and even had some great moments in 2016 so don't read too much into my position.
