Not worth it. They would let Gillespie walk.

Not a realistic option imo.

I get the reasoning behind not making him OC, but he's probably the best coach on staff, at least thats what most indications point to. I wouldn't mind the move. Alternatively, I could definitely see us making him co-OC, hiring Helfrich, and Azzani leaving.

Can find a new RB coach.

Also, it's a shame I have to come to the RF to talk about staff hires rather than the FF, but there are so many idiots over there. I know I'm :horse: but they always leave me disappointed with their dialogues.

Best position coach, yes. Complete unknown at OC. Can't afford that.

Also think Helfrich merits the OC job completely on his own. I think we can keep coach G and Larry Scott another year with a nice bump in pay.

I think promoting a position coach to coordinator just for the sake of keeping him on the staff is a bad move. I'm sure some wise guy will chime in with a "_______ says hello" as an outlier example, but my thinking is that the most qualified available candidate in a vacuum should get the offer. If that happens to be someone already on staff, so be it.

Yeah...you guys are right, it wouldn't be the best move to make. I'm just the kinda guy that likes to hang onto something good even if it costs me an opportunity. This is an exciting coaching search though, at least as long as it stays optimistic.

They gave Z the Passing Game Coordinator moniker. Give Run Game Coordinator to CRG and let Helfric run the whole Offensive Department. Let Helfrich bring in his own OL coach to help the continuity to Helfric calling the shots. Then let Shoop make whatever changes he sees fit. Strip sounds like he is headed for an office so DL should get Shoops approval. LBs and DBs need more development so let Shoop handle those as well. If he wants to keep the incumbent then so be it but if he wants to upgrade then make it happen. Open the dang checkbook and lets commit to winning a lot of football games!

Debords wife must be pissed. He was all set to retire and then... nope. Just kidding.

Unless she saw a sweet record player that she wants to get and needs Debo to keep the paycheck rolling in so she can save up for it.

Now the coaching search becomes interesting. If Helfrich is in fact the OC hire, will he want to bring in "his" assistant coaches? There were rumors of dissention within the defensive staff, and that would lead to changes after the season. One would assume that Helfrich would want the same for the offensive staff.

He prob wants someone but also don't think it is as big a deal offensively as it is defensively. Alotnof teams these days run about the same offensive philosophy. Defensive communication is so critical.

Assuming Helfrich is hired, I wonder if Azzanni will retain his "Passing Game Coordinator" title. I don't imagine Helfrich would relinquish those responsibilities easily.

Derek Barnett
@dbarnett25: It has been 3 great years. I'm very thankful for getting the opportunity to play at Tennessee! Thank you all for the many memories

Apparently, his kids and grandchildren still live in Indiana, and the primary motive to retire was to spend more time with his family. He will get to be closer to his family, and he won't be in an environment as demanding at UT's.

Looking forward to you getting paid and making us proud, DB!

Now's the time to step up as a program and make a statement. Why are we not worthy of hiring the best available? Bama, Clemson, OSU, Michigan, etc. do. Helfrich is the best available to fit this offensive system/roster and make tweaks to it. If UT is not totally stupid, it is time to tell Butch to do things the way the big boys do them or go home.

Hire Blackburn already.
