So why is our line only 3.5?

Obviously, on a neutral field the line would be 7.5-8.5. People think bookies use 3 points for home field advantage, but many many many use stadium/team specific HFAs. Phil Steele has UGA's as 4-5 points (I forget exactly).

On a neutral, I wager this would have opened at Tennessee -7.5, which seems fair.

I expect a very tight game. It doesn't seem to matter when we play GA. They can be loaded and us down and we play them tight and vice versa. I think it will be a 10 point game and will be in doubt until the end.

Excellent article.

I've been beating the "Debord called the game well in the first half too" drum ever since halftime.

What was most interesting to me was the defensive adjustments that he pointed out - that's not something I'll notice while watching the game live and I haven't poked through the defensive plays on any analytical level. Interesting that Shoop didn't just shove Barnett up Appleby's ass from the opening kick. Maybe he thought he could confuse Appleby with some odd looks to generate a few picks... I don't know.

Also, this was a funny potshot at Appleby's Purdue teams: "Crowd noise seemed to bother Appleby in the second half as well, presumably because it was new to him as Big Ten fans seldom had to get loud when Purdue was visiting."

To me it just comes down to the lines of scrimmage.

I think our OL overachieved a bit on Saturday, but that could have been due to the lineup change and the addition of Chance Hall, so maybe we can expect that level of play from now on.

The DL finally lived up to its potential and should be able to repeat that performance given the personal nature of the game (Tuttle's injury).

Dobbs likely won't have a performance like he did last week and the WRs likely won't play as well as they did in the second half. But the offense we saw isn't really what this team does best anyway. I think we'll see the return of the three-headed monster rushing attack and control the game on the ground.

Regarding the OL: I kind of disagree. Dobbs was getting hit in the backfield all night. They only gave up one sack, but Florida's pass rush was only a half-step away from several others and the OL was chiefly responsible for Dobbs' second interception. Also, apparently 82 of Hurd's rushing yards came after contact.

They have a lot of work to do still. Having said that, apparently Chance Hall graded out very well in his first game back, so he should definitely help them along.

Perfect analysis. Any idea that the play calling was bad in the first half is a lazy assessment. I only take issue with not lining up in a power formation or under center at the goal line. Other than that, it was a well-called game.

I wonder if the line is really able to execute power run plays. They don't seem to be built that way, but I admit I'm not sure.

I'd love to see them try it though.

It seemed to work on Northwestern as a wrinkle, but I think they were able to knock it down a bit later in the game. Just thinking out loud.

The OL wasn't "good" but that matchup looked like a nightmare on paper heading into the game. Scoring 38 points and having the chance to score 59+ means your OL did something right. Plus, UF's front four is still perhaps the best in CFB. We won't face another like it all year outside of Bama, and I don't think they're quite as good.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Dobbs was more impressive on replay. He stood in there and took some shots while delivering some impressive throws. His throws weren't superb early and contributed to some drops (still pretty catchable), but later in the game, he was nailing them.

To be fair to the OL, several of those hits came on blitzes.

Honestly, I was more impressed with Florida's d-line than their secondary. Jennings and Malone made them look like chumps with some assists from Debord. DBU was a bit of fool's gold.

the ol "there is gonna be a letdown" line. Its the easiest thing to think. Kinda like " Ill pick Tennessee against Florida when they win". Its human nature. But the truth is they have been asleep all but about 5 qtrs this entire season. They are gonna be fine. I, However, think it woke them up and thats bad news for everyone else.

I hope that is indeed the case. The Florida game should give them confidence.

My only concern is focus and preparation...they are still a bunch of 20 year-olds.

Our OL definitely DID NOT overachieve Saturday....
#63 Kendrick had a TERRIBLE day--all day--at LT....We need someone to step up and play well there.

And I am NOT happy about our failure to run the ball into the end-zone with a 1st and goal from the 2 yard line.

Why in the HADES do we have a 6'4" 240 lb Tailback if we are not going to line him up in a Power I and run the ball into the EZ....

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with having a JUMBO Goal-line package with Dobbs under center in a Power-I with the potential of banging HURD up in there...It would also enable you to run the reverse option and more RPO plays...that would utilize both Hurd and Dobbs in a better way.

It is sheer STUPIDITY to run a straight dive into the LOS with Hurd alone in the backfield without a lead blocker on the goal line!

And that little roll-out pass to Kamara is stale and EVERY ONE of our opponents will be able to defend it.

We are UT...and we should be able to run the ball into the end-zone against anyone with Hurd as our TB...

We need to get those issues corrected...

Plus, UF's front four is still perhaps the best in CFB.

I'm not trying to be offensive....but learn to watch some film of other games and evaluate their DLs instead of listening to those guys on TV.

NO they are not---Bama's 1st and 2nd team DL are better....Ole Miss's DL is BETTER....Auburn's front 4 are better....and LSU's is just as good....

We are VERY BAD at LT....and our OL still hasn't played a good game as a unit yet--people just think Fla is good because of the WEAK schedule they've played so far.

VANDY will run for 100 on them next week with Webb. :salute:

And our OL was garbage to start the year and gave the offense a chance to score 59+ vs the Gators. Overachieved doesn't mean dominated. They were a sieve to start the season and getting abused by Sun Belt guys who weighed 60 lbs less than them. They were slightly less of a sieve against a much better defensive front that they've faced all year.

But please, continue downplaying our team's progression.

I agree with the power package. That's twice now this season we couldn't get it into the endzone on short yardage by running the ball.

Truly, the storyline that UT made these huge adjustments on Offense and Florida suddenly forgot how to defend in the second half is completely false. The plays Debord drew up worked the whole game, we just had some bad drops in the first half. We should have beaten Florida by 3+ TDs.

I see where most recruiting sites have McFarland leaning toward Maryland. Are we actively pursuing him since we got Chandler commit? Surely we can beat out Maryland on a recruit.

Oh look. A post criticizing the play-calling after we scored touchdowns on 5 of 6 possessions in the second half and won the game going away.
