I'm afraid to ask but who are the refs for next weeks game? Please tell me not SEC. Their calls tonight were absolute crap. And the leagues office should be in a neutral site but how convenient its in good ole Alabama. Bandwagon Bama fans everywhere in east tn makes me sick.

Either BIG big XII or PAC

4 seams would've went for 6. Where was Byrd? Why wasn't he used? Or are we SAVING him? Smh

I will be honest I didn't mind the WR subbing this game, but good gosh we have so many weapons there and they refuse to use them in the right situation. Off tackle, off tackle, 5 yrd out, and punt. Rinse and repeat.

They were super vanilla. I'm just surprised they stayed that way into the second half. I guess it worked out, but we'll see against VT.

I don't recall a single sweep or end-around. Did they even fake one?

Agreed.
Analytics/some chart probably told them they could win with 2013's playbook. surprisingly, Hurd had 3.9 YPC hitting the same gap over and over with a line getting beat by DL 2/3 their size. Imagine if Hurd ran behind a competent OL.

55 has to get better and stronger ASAP. Whole OL looked terrible. Debord has to go. Never want to call for someone's job but this just proves the point.

And can we please just let Dobbs play football. 5/6 yard passes (designed by the way) kill this offense. No creativity at all. Let the WR make plays. Let Kamara thrive in his role. So on and so on. Wolf looked good tonite. Do what wrks instead of the same 3 plays all game

Debord is capable of calling a good game. The conservative crap has to go. I don't care what we show them. Use all of your weapons. Allow the players to play football.

Oh I liked having less rotating but if he's so fast then USE him please. Lol

Butch with a TO on 4th and 5 for App St in OT.

He did not learn from that Florida game

Jmo, but it appeared we had some miscommunication going on. Was at the game so just my perspective from the stands. Haven't made it home to watch the replay yet.

I think we bounce back next weekend. We will look a bit better. That being said, something has to change on the OL

That was nasty, but I'll reserve judgement for now. Learn from it, move on.

We were the only team of substance playing on a broadcast network tonight so we had the chattering class on TV and social media pointing and laughing with glee. Let them.

By late Saturday night, 2 or 3 teams will have lost games they had no business losing...and UT won't be one of them.

I'll worry about it if nothing changes. Until then, we're 1-0. Choke on it, World.

It's like the first date, and you squeeze a little wind out, and it's absolutely awful, stomach wrenching, rotten broccoli and fish type of stuff. You panic.... but the dog is right under you. You proclaim your disdain for the manners of the vile animal, apologize as you toss him out the door, but secretly thank him for being there.

Somehow... this game was kind of like that... i think.

Long post ahead, but I feel there needs to be some positivity brought in here after a game where it's easy to see a lot of negatives.

First off, hats off to App State. For being one-dimensional, their coaches called a great game, and they threw everything plus the kitchen sink and the foundation the house was built on at us.

Now on to some positive draws after a quick rewatch.

1. Although our playcalling and offensive gameplan was clearly as vanilla as it gets for this system, Preston Williams turned heads before getting nicked up (not confirming any injury news, but his limp was clear and noticeable [although it doesn't seem too serious, he played all game]). He will be a weapon down the stretch as the playbook opens up.

2. Josh Malone has grown up. You can see it all on his TD catch. The ball was always going to his back shoulder, but Malone baited the corner by cheating to his right and tracking the ball over his right shoulder. Then, at the last second, he turned the other way, putting his body between him and the corner to prevent a pass breakup, and followed all the way through the catch. All of his efforts pre-catch caused the defender to not only be out of position to make a play on the ball, but also caused him to overshoot Malone for an easy broken tackle and a leisurely jog into the endzone. That's a play that gets you playing time on Sundays.

3. This defense is going to cause problems for any team that tries to throw the ball, and if this offense opens up like it has in the past, teams are going to HAVE to throw the ball to beat us, and quite frankly, they are going to have their work cut out for them. The ends ate the tackles up all night, even to our detriment as they beat them so quickly that they became a non factor after the ball was handed off. Coverage by the secondary was top notch, with (IIRC) no completions made over 20 yards down the field, with the few attempts ending in either pass break ups or an interception.

4. This team is resilient, poised, and determined. Although it is easy to see that we were not mentally prepared initially for the game App State came to play, the defense adjusted in the second half and smothered the App State offense. When they decided that not one more point would be allowed, they made sure it happened. On the offensive side, although severely hamstrung by the conservative approach taken for this game, when it mattered most this offense made it happen. Overall, this team clearly had no doubt of the outcome of the game, from the players to the coaches, and were ready when the moments came to take the game.

5. No serious injuries, and conditioning was fantastic.

6. Kicking game was solid, Daniel averaged 50 a punt and Medley was 2/2 with a crucial 39-yarder to bring the game back to 7.

Overall, I think there is still just as much reason to be optimistic as there was before. Although it pisses me off that we clearly were not taking this game seriously, there are still plenty of bright spots to see. The OL needs to wake up, for they were the clearest offenders when it comes to not taking things seriously. They half assed the whole game, and that is the only explanation for it. We already know that these guys can do the job at a SEC level, they did it last season, so maybe they need to get the f off the OLPShadows page and start getting mean. 10 days til the BoB, and I think that's when we are really going to see what we have with this team. Enjoy the win, guys, the sky hasn't fallen yet.
