Excellent analogy. I like Bruin, I just wish he wouldn't over analyze things and dwell on the bad all the time.Once you just accept the fact that he rarely, if ever, has any idea what he's talking about and just likes exercising his fingers, it's easier to deal with.
I like to think of Bruin like that crazy uncle every family has Thanksgiving who rants and raves the whole time. Sure, he's half senile and listening to him ramble is grating. But he's good at heart, mostly harmless, and he's one of us. So it's better just to let him do his thing without comment unless you want to derail thanksgiving dinner for the whole family.

You do realize you pulled my string on this don't you?
You and any poster can believe recruiting is a gentlemen's game all you want if you want to. I can assure you it isn't. I certainly don't know exactly what is being said to these kids but I can assure you it isn't at all gentlemanly
We can discuss this anytime you wish again. I look forward to pointing out how conditions are met before commitments are taken which makes zero sense for posters that think those same conditions are told in detail after a kid commits in order to keep the title of VFL.

Did you read the comments from Roger's dad? He said the TN coaches were open and honest with them about where they stood. Even told them which players the staff liked better than his son. It doesn't get any more honest than that. I've never claimed recruiting doesn't have a dark side, my claim was that Butch doesn't just pull the rug out from under these kids unexpectedly. I think he lets them know the way things work up front. You on the other hand think Butch is deceitful and dishonest. That is where we differ.
I don't think cbj is deceitful and dishonest. I think he participates in the recruiting "game" like all coaches which includes a "dirty" side.
I don't blame him or think any less about him for his participating in the "game" of recruiting.
I just find it comical that many here believe he is telling these kids all these conditions that need to be met to keep the vol "for life" label and yes I read the dad's comments. Again very upfront with the kid before the commitment with no mention of what's next. The dad even said he thinks his spot is safe.
You've insinuated at times that you disagree with Butch taking commitments from kids and then pulling their offer later. You've said that this is dirty. My contention has always been that Butch let's them know up front that that is a possibility.I don't think cbj is deceitful and dishonest. I'm new to the RF and I must admit that I find myself spending most of my time here now, mostly lurking, and I enjoy the points brought by everyone, but my take so far on this class is it was hyped up to be a huge class based on in state talent. Granted it sucks to see instate kids go elsewhere, but what if CBJ is content with the playmakers we have on the roster and this is more of a quality depth class, and he is hoping to use our results from this season to restock our playmakers the next one or two classes

Let's talk about something positive. 247 has a great highlight video up of Hurd. He is my favorite Vol. I think he's right there with Fournette as one of the greatest backs in all of college football. He can do it all. There is one thing however, that I think everybody agrees that he could improve on and that is being more of a home run threat. I'd love to see him break and 80 yard td this year. Is there any way that he can improve on that aspect of his game? If he can, he may be the best back in all of football because I think he's better at other things than even a guy like Fournette such as running between the tackles, catching out of the backfield and pass pro.
