Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXVI

It still cracks me up how uptight folks are on this site... someone can post a comment/opinion (which is what the site's intended purpose is supposed to be), not even remotely directed at a specific person, and someone always gets butthurt and defensive if they don't agree... SMH

Amen brother! That deserves a double Amen! It's so so the truth on these message boards!

The thing I've always loved about the recruiting forum was that every conversation didn't eventually turn into a "negavols" vs "sunshine pumpers" argument. Doesn't matter what the topic is, every argument in the football forum ends up always being revolved around those two ideologies.

The recruiting forum has always encouraged folks to look at the team and program with perspective. Recruiting is a big picture sport to follow. So many in here lately are so burdened by every tiny detail. If you're not a big picture person then I urge you to gtfo. Nobody cares if you're a "realist" who is just "telling it like it is". You're in the wrong forum. Take your petty arguments elsewhere.

Some of you are unbelievable with the level of disrespect you have for Dobbs.

We won't have a better QB in 2018. Guarantano will be a freshmen. Our RBs will definitely be much worse with 2 five stars leaving for the NFL. And on defense we'll lose our 3 best players (Barnett, JRM, and Sutton).

Nobody gets better after losing the 6 best players on their team from one year to the next.

Ok. This past season Dobbs was 5th in the SEC in passing yards. 10th in yds/att. 6th in TDs. 8th in passer efficiency. Guarnatano will have had a redshirt year after watching Dormady/Jones play, both of which I believe can be more successful than Dobbs. We haven't seen what Phillips/ Kongbo/ Tuttle/ McKenzie/ Berry/ Sapp/ Abernathy are consistently capable of yet. You can't assume that we will be worse in 2 years just because you don't know what we have. For those with short memories, 2 years makes a big difference.

simmer, I know that.... just acknowledging how much talent continues to leave the state for whatever reason..... btw, I hope you weren't saying in an earlier post that you still think this class will end up being top 5.... talk about babble... can we quote you on that? If we get to the SEC championship, I think we could pull strong in the end like last year and maybe hit the 10 mark, but top 5 is not realistic at this point unless a bunch of our 3's get bumped to 4's...

Umm..I definitely never said that. You got me mixed up with somebody I quoted. I have maintained for awhile that there is no way we end up ranked top 5. I don't know where you got that.

If we had landed Brown, I wouldn't trade our class for anybody's. I probably still wouldn't anyway. I really don't care what the services rank that class. I think it will be top 5 or better in the long run. No real DTs is the ONLY drawback.

This may be what you were talking about..I am referring to the re ranking that usually happens a few years down the road, and I am talking about last years class. Which I do believe in retrospect will be one of the best classes We've had.

Yeah it was a great class. Already rave reviews on a lot of players. JG, Kongbo, Byrd, Osborne, and Warrior are guaranteed stars IMO. Add in guys like Bituli, George, Callaway, Johnson x2, Williams, and now McDaniel and we will have some major contributors this year and next.

Exactly..it is almost unheard of to get that many star or superstar players out of a class not ranked top 5 by the services.

Ok..but I was never accused of being a negavol in all the years I've been a member, till I started giving my honest opinion that this year is not going very well according to the expectations we pretty much all had going into this cycle. That is what pisses me off. I am no nega butch hater with an agenda to promote distrust or dislike of the coaching staff.

I think we finish Top 10, somewhere in the 7-9 range. Not holding out hope for Top 5, and that's ok.

I don't see how we can finish top-10 since our class is almost filled up (nobody has more current verbal commitments than us [23] with the exception of Arizona's 24) and our average rating is pretty low (247 = 86.48; Rivals = 3.17).

Remember when Kentucky had one of the highest rated classes about this time a couple of years ago? The reason was that they had a ton of a lot of lower star guys. They wound up the season being ranked around 38th or something like that.

We'll be in the mid-teens unless something drastic happens.

How much higher would the 16 class have been if the RB and DL who signed last week would have signed on signing day?

Not at their current ratings but at the ratings they would have been if they had qualified. We are probably a top 10 class again for 16 but it's not seen that way now.

I haven't seen Jones, Dormady, or Guarnatano play live against SEC talent. However, with what I have seen on tapes, I think all three will throw the ball better than Dobbs. I do not think that any of the three will run with the power of Dobbs although I think Guarnatano is a great runner. I believe we are in a very good position at the Qb position for the next few seasons.

What are the fans take on my nephew DT C/O 18 D'Andre Litaker!!!

Want. Tell him to go ahead and pull the trigger.

This. Please. :hi:

Want as a DT without question. Perfect size, quickness, disciplined - handles his assignments, pursues the ball out of his area, natural athlete. Needs to be in orange and a VFL.

I think the problem in your case is the number of times. Not bashing you at all and have no problem with you. Does this class look as good as everyone hoped? Not yet. Win this fall and it could look significantly different by February.
There are, however, a bunch of posters that showed up here recently that every post (or 9 out of 10) is whining about butch. Didn't used to be this way over here.
:hi:

Edit:. And 1 poster who is supposedly a Vol fan with a truckload of posts about why clempsum is so awesome.

No offense...but boo f'n hoo! Recruiting changes daily, it's a big picture sport as someone else just pointed out.

Expectations haven't been lived up to so far this cycle? That happens...change your expectations...deal with it...it's a wait and see game...let's see how the commit list looks in January after we have a big season...etc

Look, you're allowed to have your opinion, as am I and everyone else. But the problem sometimes is that it's stated over and over and over and over and it becomes this you against the other guys negative pissing match. What fun is that?

Recruiting changes constantly, good and bad, and Butch has shown he's really good at it...so why spend all of 2016 telling everyone how you're pissed off because expectations haven't lived up to the hype so far? I don't know man, I've been following this awhile now and I'm betting come NSD you and others will make posts like this..."I'm so glad I was wrong! Butch is the man!"

Or maybe not, maybe We finish 20th in recruiting, lose 5 games and the world ends. The point is that Butch is a badass, he's proven that in recruiting, and UT commitment lists in the Spring and Summer will look drastically different in February...enjoy the ride and stay positive!

Or maybe I'm just a posivol a-hole who needs to deal with the negavols and shut my mouth...

Don't want to wander too far into a faith discussion, but there do seem to be some faith themes at work during this recruiting cycle. If I were a minister...looking at you Ulysees...I would definitely be spending some time checking out my motivations.

The first theme I see is "hope deferred makes a heart sick", which simply means that when we see something within our grasp and then have it taken away, it tends to mess us up. Pretty evident that is going on with some people here, and it's making some folk downright mean.

The second theme I see is a bit darker. The more messed up we get from having our hope deferred, the greater the likelihood our hope was in something that has become an obsession to us. Nothing tends to piss us off more than when our idols fail us. That's not healthy.
