Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXIV

I'm sure UT has hired a crisis management consultant, but we really need to get out in front of all this. Within five days, we've had a damaging civil suit filed, escalating negative publicity in the national media, a football team leader who confessed to five felony sex crimes and a new signee arrested for agg assault/strangulation with sexual assault as a kicker. That series of events has to be almost statistically impossible.

Firing someone will extinguish the flames pretty quick. Expect Cheek to get a bag of money to be the fall guy. Apparently he was almost on his way out anyway.

There's no way we get lucky enough to make all this go away easily AND get rid of Cheek.

University is already getting blasted in the media and recruiting will certainly take a hit. Parents are going to be concerned about the culture

Yeah recruiting is what I'm worried about. The amount of negative recruiting that will go on against us will be insane.

Don't think Cheek was going to be reupped. Pretty sure Hart will hit the door with him. They're going to have to clean house. The one person whose job just got a lot safer? Holly Warlick. No way we fire a woman right now.

Nothing else. Hoping rest of spring is quiet

I love the Vols but I love my wife and daughter more.

This has made me question the viability of my long-term fanhood more than anything has in the past.

SIAP But a Basilio emailer gave some interesting background today on the Manning Incident:

'Hey Tony,

I'm a big fan from the days of snack caking and Jeromio so I've followed you for years. I'm an old UT guy from your day who lived in Grieve Hall from 85-87 then out on Papermill at Woodlands West during my upperclass years.

I knew Jamie pretty well as we had some classes together and almost went out one time. So I sorta followed this closely at the time. I'm a good buddy of Kevin Mays from back in the day as well. So here is some perspective that nobody has talked about yet.

Jamie was a Whited at the time of the incident with Peyton. Yes she was a potty mouth Jersey girl but she was pretty cool at first. The issue was that the early 90's sexual harassment was not what it is today. She was cute and had some gigantic ta ta's that you could not miss. She was a good trainer who had a promising career. The problem was that by being cool to this stuff early she got a lot of attention because of her female qualities. People don't understand that the Peyton part was one of many charges she made against the University. The one that really got her to take legal action was a time when she was changing and the track team stormed in on her.

The Peyton issue just made people take notice. This was handled terribly by UT and Rollo at the time. They tried to put her off and then the Peyton stuff happened. I think the exposure had nothing to do with her but she saw his junk and another staff member witnessed this incident. It was a mistake on Peyton's part but he was like 19 at the time.

What most people don't realize is she had some people behind her that were upset with Tennessee. John Whited, her father in law, was the baseball coach at UT and he was worse than our last guy by a long shot. She was married to Whited's son(named John or Jaime) and they were fueling some of this cause he had been released earlier.

In the end, I think it didn't work out for either and this is the one time the Mannings did not handle a situation with utmost class. She used Peyton to be heard but he did do something that was not acceptable to her. The Mannings carried a grudge and the book stuff was not their finest hour in my opinion.

Leave well enough alone on that one cause it was over at the time. She could have had a very successful career but this derailed her from what I've seen. She was wronged in the 1990's but Peyton is being done shotty at this point.

Dave Hart/Jimmy Cheek have to be gone now and UT has to show they are cleaning this type of stuff up. Hart and Dickey are similar but tall guy could make you feel like it was your decision when he wanted something. Napoleon Hart wants to be a bully and rub your nose in it as he makes you eat it. That is why he is target #1 for anybody with an agenda now. He has left UT open for this stuff. Love your show and loved the interview with Mayo last week. Made me realize we all have issues and we are all loved. Thanks for the truth with no BS.

I am beginning to think I might stop donations and supporting this crap. I blamed Mack on being a Dooley recruit. I love CBJ but he is the one signing and investigating these kids to make sure they are the right fit. We have now had three kids in the last two years get kicked off almost as soon as they get on campus. You have to be able to pick up character flaws. No way any one coach can get it right every time and control every kid but this is getting stupid.

Also, with all that is going on, is it possible that some of these guys might being set up. That would be a concern for me if I had a kid being recruited to play at UT. A bunch of girls looking for pay days at a time when UT is in the spot light. Not saying that is the case here because none of us really know and the investigators will have to try and figure it out. But, it has crossed my mind.

We still win the East and possibly the SEC Crown this year in route to playoffs (Georgia will be tough). Not trying to downplay, or excuse ANY misappropriate behavior, but s**t happens with high caliber dipsh💩ts and I watch Vol football and root for them regardless.
