be gone if someone would hire him but that doesn't seem to be a reality. I think he is likely to be here..

LOL. Makes it sound like Butch wishes someone would take him. We can't afford to pay him to leave, but would happily pack his bags if someone wants him.

I believe I can speak for many when I say we were all pleasantly surprised. This was one of those few cases where I am glad you were wrong.

any of the three in serious consideration would have been upgrades. not that Jancek was bad, just not as good as those three IMO

What is confusing to me is Tony Basilio is claiming that Butch worked Hart over in order to give Gillespie and Thigpen big raises because they had many job offers this offseason. If we wanted Thigpen gone why would CBJ try to get him a big raise to keep him? I know there are recruiting issues, but it doesn't make a lot of sense.

And secondly, how did CBJ talk a big time DC to come here and tell him he couldn't hire anybody of his own, seems fishy to me?

Maybe "we" didn't want him gone?

Perhaps the most shocking part of Tennessee’s smash-and-grab hire of Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop was simple. In addition to offering Shoop a nice-but-not-too-nice raise from his PSU salary, Tennessee won’t be responsible for the buyout in their new coach’s PSU contract.

Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart didn’t delve into specifics with GoVols247 on Monday, saying only that Shoop’s decision to keep UT out of the buyout was a “very, very loud statement” about how badly the coach wanted to be in Knoxville.

Hart said everyone would see during Tuesday’s introductory press conference how “excited” Shoop is to be on Butch Jones’ staff at Tennessee.

“I’m sure they’ll talk about that a little bit tomorrow when Butch and Bob have their press conference, but in short, it’s a very, very loud statement about how bad Bob wanted to be a part of what is going on here in our football program,” Hart told GoVols247. “He was willing to handle that, and we were able to move forward then in a very rapid fashion to try to get something, which we were able to do. And tomorrow we’ll have a press conference. That’s the first opportunity Bob will have to be in front of our media, and he’s excited about that.

“He’s really looking forward to that.”

If Butch had the stones to part ways with Jancek, why wouldn't he do the same with Azzani? Unless he thinks Azzani was doing well helping with special teams and he (Butch) could work with WRs?

Could be as simple as money. Jancek is paid 550 grand to walk. Shoop is paid double what Jancek was. Talk of raises for a lot of the staff. Hart has to draw the line somewhere.

Maybe Butch does a little networking at the coaches convention and can find someone interested in a coach or two. If they are hired away, Butch has to make some hires.

Just think if TN hired Butch instead of Dooley - good possibility of the secondary starters being - Sutton, Mackensie Alexander (Committed to TN 1st), Von Bell (if not for Dooley he would be a Vol from what I read), and Jalen Ramsey (I don't know how much he really looked at the Vols but being from TN I am sure Butch would have made him a priority). Defensive Coordinator would have a tad of talent to work with.

FL still would have beat us with a walk on DT forced into action because of injury to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team kickers. The DT kicks a 31 yarder to win it late in the 4th. A week later the DT tests positive for roids.

Butch Davis just said if it were him and he is Clemsons coach, he would be looking at the Tennessee game for how we played Bama.

Did also note that Dobbs was sacked 5 times and this would be Watsons toughest game.

They apparently mentioned Hurd this morning when they were discussing having success against their defense. Good air play for our Vols.

Butch Davis? That's our coach, right?
