Also the feeling I get reading 247 is JRM returning, Cam gone, AK possible either way.

Basically it's probable the NFL wants to see him (JRM) play at 240-245 a whole season and see how he manages his game at that weight. That sounds like a pretty honest assessment. If I'm drafting JRM i would like to see that.

Cam not being a 4.3 guy means he will probably never be a first rounder but most scouts don't see how he can improve his stock.

You can make a case for AK either way.

Kamara makes no sense to me. I can get Cam and even JRM but not Kamara. Cam is only one that should go

Kyle Phillips at 280... If he could still maintain that speed. Would be scary. He's already 260 and potentially still growing.

Maybe he should listen to them. They get paid the big bucks for a reason.

If we were to lose Kyle Phillips, it would be a big deal. Despite what some of you claim.

No player makes or breaks this team. It would suck but we'll get by. I said the same thing with the Hurd transfer smoke and I believe it. Especially if they don't want to be here.

He would've found something else to be discontented about...they always do. Give me a Corey Vereen anytime. Kid came in as a true freshman with plenty of playing time.. Was an afterthought his second and when they needed him in his third year, he was ready. Even if Hendrix is a star at Pitt, he wouldn't have been for Tennessee.

We have some up and coming 3rd year players who haven't seen the field much that have big time talent. Guys like Cortez, Dillon Bates, Gaulden, Big Charles, Creamer, Elliot Berry and Gavin Bryant come to mind. I wonder if we'll see some more Corey Vereen type breakouts here next season out of those guys.

They have been developing on the fringe for awhile now. Excited to see what they can do. All the guys in that 2014 class have a special place in my heart.

Pushing KP into playing DT is the stupid mismanagement I was referring to. That is ridiculous. I don't criticize the staff much, but I'm going to go Chavis on this one.

How do you know that? There have been many great DTs that started out as ends. Its possible this kid's highest ceiling is at DT.

After watching him this year, his build reminds me of Jonathan Bullard (the dominant DT at Florida). Like KP, Bullard started out as a highly touted DE. The Florida coaches moved him to DT because they felt that was his best position. And he's now a potential 1st round pick at DT. I think the coaches are right on this one. Phillips has the frame to be Jonathan Bullard 2.0.

In addition with Darrell Taylor and Austin Smith being groomed as DEs, we'll be set at that position.

Ok, is KP leaving before spring semester? If so, how much time does that give him to enroll into another school? Is he going the juco route? Who outside of the sec was recruiting him? If he liked Shoop and Shoop is leaving penn state regardless, does KP follow him?

I'm asking these questions because, he was supposedly content with being here a week or so ago. And, if he's changed his mind in such a short time, he needs some answers....

Imo, all these rumors give us something to talk and worry about. My grandpa used to say (if u asked him if it was going to rain), it will or it won't. So, when something happens, then take it for the truth.

Nate Peterman didn't leave until well in the semester. He had already signed up for graduate school iirc.

Someone posited before the season that Chris Weathered would be "another" Volunteer player that "did nothing while here" but "stars in the NFL". I called bull and asked for an example...Arian Foster is sometimes brought up by some, but he was on pace to be our alltime leading rusher before the Clawfense. After this recent season, CW might be the FIRST example of such. Right team right scheme could unleash his physical talent. With the volume of athletes this staff brings in, you have backups almost as good in wait mode. If JRM was to skip, McDowell is ready. Expect more of this dynamic in coming years. KP wants to leave? Others are thanking him. :gone:

Plus it's not like this would mean us losing any production. KP has barely been healthy enough to see the practice field since he came in, let alone the game field. He has a bright future and all, but we've recruited loss of talent in the front 7. No one player is bigger than that group as a whole at this point.

In other words "next"?...I agree. :). If he stays he'll end up great here IMO, but your point about team is right on. Bigger than ONE player indeed.

4.3? Ha none of those other guys are either... That wouldn't be the reason

In rewatching game... Why they heck did we run a fake FG out of shotgun with Chance Hall, Vickers, Ellis and another lineman as the only WR. Lol total brain fart on that one

I wondered the same thing. My guess, Butch was confident in D and had been practicing that particular fake all season and just wanted to see what happened.

Kyle Phillips leaving would be a huge loss there is no sugar coating that. I am hoping Callahan is a week late talking about the rumor that Kyles cousin squashed just a week ago. Hopefully he is just frustrated and nothing more. His cousin said not to read anything into this and Kyles playing for UTK among other posts. Hopefully he is still right and nothing else has transpired in a weeks time. Of course of he would come back and give us some reassurance that would be nice too.

Has anybody close to the program indicated that KP is unhappy about anything other than limited play due to injury? Or is it just statless speculation on a message board?

No. His own family has tried to quash the rumors but some just want to worry cause it's what they do. We will have some attrition this off season Kp could be one but probably not.

KP is going to be a star. Great talent, and a smart kid. You can't keep losing these type of players each offseason, especially on the D-line, where depth is so key in this conference. Both Philips and Hendrix were huge recruiting gets, and if we end up losing them both that is going to really sting.

All that being said, I don't buy it. I think he stays.

Kyle needs to get back into the S&C and get ready for ST. Forget all this nonsense and go to work by being patient and realizing he has a bright future in a near term NC program. Period. If that doesn't happen there are plenty of talented D-linemen that are and will be lined up to take his spot on the roster. This is not Dooleyville anymore. If you want to be the best, beat out the best for the job.

For the 247 guys, is Callahan saying Phillips is likely to transfer?

Speculation. Not saying it as definite. Thinks we have some serious convincing to do. Apparently staff told him his future is at DT like some idiots

Like groundhog day... Isn't that exactly what happened to hendrix?

Hendrix still stings

No. The only huge loss would be Dobbs, Hurd, or Barnett. Everyone else is replaceable.

Kongbo, Darrell Taylor, and Austin Smith are more than capable to take over opposite Barnett.

I think the staff is confident with who we have at DE. DT could be great for his pro prospects. He can be another Jonathan Bullard.

It seems odd that other programs can become complete dumpster fires and still recruit well and hold on to their star players, but when Tennessee finally emerges from the dumpster fire and appears poised to win the East our recruiting is down and rumblings of star/blue-chip players wanting out rear their head.
