I honestly don't think winning in the first year is actually indicative of how good the coach will turn out. Sumlin, Muschamp and Malzhan all won the first year and have done progressively worse.
I prefer what Saban and yes, Butch Jones do--building the team from ground up with top recruits and establishing a winning culture.. Butch may be taking a bit longer but we see the team is obviously improving.
I would say it's a negative for a coach to start out winning a lot, sets expectations way to high that they might never be able to continue in the short term.
