It's 100% not the case. He spots it where he thinks the ball was. It's as simple as that and if I had a little more time I'd link the rule book.

I am sure the rule book says that but it's the application

Anyway sorry for so many post on a subject that doesn't really matter.

I am out on this one

I'm so sick of seeing this (spoiler tagging it so it won't be visible by default, because it's painful to look at):

Sick of reading about why a win over the Vols at Neyland was a "gritty performance" for the other team. A "gut check." An "emotional win." Or just a highlight reel in the making for their star player.

Butch has one more shot at a "big" home win this year and that's Georgia. Hell, even Arkansas would count considering how abysmal we've been against SEC teams in Neyland in recent years. Just get it done. Please. I'm sick of seeing other coaches, players, and fans leaving Neyland with big ****-eating grins on their faces.

So you went through and dug all those pictures up? Why? Why roll around in it?

And to no one in particular, There's probably some 20 somethings on this board but I'm guessing a lot are around my age, 30ish and older.

So how in the blue hell did some of you survive the 90s if this is what happens after a game like Oklahoma? The 95 Florida game would have been an absolute blood letting around here.

Just read on Sportsnation that a 4th and 1 on the goal line had a 66% success rate last year. Looks like Butch's analytics led to the wrong choice.

The more I watch replays, the more I unfortunately see the same thing. I could take many examples of what I consider the coaches making conservative or bad decisions, however, the players had so many opportunities to close this game out on offense and defense based on the positions they were put in by the coaches. I was really down at first on the coaches, but I'm not so much any more. Our players have to man up and start finishing games.....period.

Wonder what Hurd's % is? I'd bet over 66% given enough chances.

Doubt it with our OL.

The "jump" TD Hurd had against BG bothered me a little. I didn't think he look good at all being able to get airborne. He barely made that one

Perhaps that is why Kamara was in there and he just wasn't given enough room to jump.

I don't much like the must win Florida attitude. We can lose at Florida and still win the East. It's why coaches preach taking it one game at a time. Let the season play out. There are too many variables to do otherwise.

I'd think a direct snap to Hurd with an extra blocker should have a high success rate. Oh well, I've moved on at this point.

I don't like it either but last Saturday put the feeling for that game as just that

Mathematically you are right but mentally it's a must win

Any form of giving the Hurd the ball should be high but running in the middle hasn't and appears won't be this OLs strength

That's not the only way to look at it. We know this team tightens up under great expectations. A relaxed team facing lower expectations might be unstoppable in finishing out the season. Or a loss could be the beginning of an unraveling. There's no way to know at this time. There's a lot of football left to play and there will be a lot of football left to play after the Florida game.

He has shown that this offense is better with him at QB. Whether or not we would have beat Florida is really irrelevant. This offense needs his wheels especially behind this offensive line. Worley was a sitting duck and there was almost zero chance he would make it through the year uninjured.

Still gotta have a guy who can complete a pass, but I agree. This offense works way better with a wheeled passer. They say he's done it with a more pocket-type, but I gotta wonder what the zone-read looked like.

Agree Bruin. People who don't realize the importance of that Florida game are tone deaf robots.

Toxic is the word that can best describe the mood in Knoxville in two weeks if we lose to another terrible Florida team.

Wish it wasn't so but it's darn sure true

The Florida game will b a street fight. Our d will shut them down also. Game could be a 3-0 game. It is a must win IMO for Tennessee football and butch Jones. This team has a chance to play in atl this year with this defense, just needs a little help from the entire offensive unit.

It's so important because it's the first SEC game. Win and it sets us up to be in the driver's seat for the division. Lose and we are playing catchup with an upset fan base and probably low confidence team. Essentially a must win.

The Florida game is the most important game left on the schedule. It's not close in my opinion.

6-6 becomes a realistic if not likely possibility with a loss in two weeks. Thankfully Arkansas looks very beatable now, so that could be the difference between 6-6 and 7-5.

I doubt his analytics just go by what has the highest % of success, and that's it.

But maybe at that point he felt like a 1-in-3 chance of coming away with no points was too high.

Either way, with all the questioning of the coaches, I think one of the most worthy instances of such questioning was not having Hurd in with a yard to gain. That made 100000% no sense. Whatsoever

Agreed. I thought the same thing after I watched it again.

O-Line flat out got beat.

Can't argue with rabid. Offensive help would be nice but the reality is that the D will probably have to score to win.
