There are very few coaches that could have recruited the talent Butch has brought in the last two years (first year was not a full recruiting class).

If college coaching is 80/20 recruiting vs. coaching you could be giving up a lot.

Can we stop with the "but the recruiting" argument? That's obviously not getting W's on the field, there's something holding back our talent and it's obvious who it is.

That is certainly the support this program needs. It would not be funny and it would hurt recruiting and any future coaches we could want if Butch happened to not be the answer.

Man, my post this responded to was dripping with blue font. If anything it was 100% a funny thought. I guess it wasn't to you guys. I thought of it, laughed in my head, and decided to share it. :hi:

Someone also texted me this but I haven't gone back to confirm:

"On the tying td in regulation they only had 6 on the line. "

Has anyone checked this?

I thought there was a false start they missed, but maybe it was an illegal formation.

UF laid an egg vs ECU that last quarter but truly the game was never in ECUs favor. UF left 20 points in the board with bad play and horrible officiating.

Having 5 starter out really showed ad well.

UF won't take KY lightly but really don't get the hype for KY on VN. I know y'all are going to always down play UF because that's what rivals do, but really have any of you watched KY? They are above avg on offense and awful on D. They rank in the 100s in like 5 defensive category's.

I was more worried about ECU than KY.

I do like Kentucky in that game. Playing at home and with a lot of energy, I think they will find a way to win a close, low scoring, and a in a lot of ways, ugly game.

Still trying to wrap my head around this one.

I have nothing new to add..but the biggest disappointment for me is it seems like there was a total of zero adjustments made from last years Florida game to this past Saturday.

I know Dobbs played pretty terrible but it's an absolute joke that Marquez North isn't featured in this offense. It doesn't matter who the OC is, they'll run Butch's system.

Bingo. It's a package deal. So long as Butch Jones is our head coach, we will run this offense.

That's what makes it so concerning to see it get completely bottled up after half-time adjustments. Granted, Butch doesn't have the ideal players to fit his system, but how many coaches do?

He's had two full recruiting classes! The kids from his first full class are sophomores or redshirt freshman. The impatience around here is nuts.

I haven't been impressed with in-game coaching either, except for USCe in 2013, but to think that they can't coach up recruits at this point is way too premature.

And, for all the people out there who say that it's obvious that CBJ can't do the job and infer that he's got to go: what's your proposed plan? who is UT going to get that is an upgrade as coach and just as capable a recruiter? how is UT going to pay this messiah? how do you counter the perception, after firing another coach, that this is a basket-case program? It's fine to complain for a day or two but, after awhile, either tells us what the solution is or drop it.

So, judging by this I'd say you have the Vols winning the East? I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Lol Guess that's one way to look at it.

I know I have Vols beating UF as of today.

You guys bleed GBO so I get the frustrating parts of Sat nite. I still don't understand 90% of the reactions that I've read on here for the most part. Some valid concerns but a little early for my taste.

You know the crazies are out and overreacting when it takes a UF fan to bring a reasonable point of view.

Are we supposed to be content with mediocrity? We have plenty of donors willing to pay for the best.

Jon Gruden: Coaching Tennessee Volunteers a 'dream job' - NFL.com

This raises a brow. I honestly hope Butch gets it done. But he hasn't and the entire fan base including myself is seriously doubting this hire. To not doubt it is unfair to Dooley. They have the same exact record.

Dear Lord people a gator bringing rationale to the RF. It is tough and coaching did hurt us in the game but we have to see the positives of increasing to where we can play with a team like OU. Lots of season left to play out

What does a Florida fan know about being a Vol?

You know what their record will be when they play us? 4-0

Do you know the last time we started 4-0 was? 2003.

The last time we started 3-0 was 2004.

Nice to see a somewhat neutral stance regarding our game.

"Curt Maggitt, right now, has a hip injury. He will be out for an extended period of time. I still don't know to the extent of how long it will be. He is in the process of going through the evaluation process. I should know a little bit more by the end of the week, but he will be out for an indefinite period of time. It's just a true freak injury. It's probably the freakish injury that I have ever been a part of.

That doesn't sound like he will be back for Florida. Where are those people who were ripping Swain yesterday?

I'm gonna post this again for all the Butch-abandoners since Sat:

If you remember in 2005, post-katrina. When our game was pushed to a Mon night due to the hurricane.

Miles blew a 17-point lead ALL in the 4th quarter AT HOME to our Vols. And he lost in OT to us. In a game that their fans were HUGELY and emotionally invested in. You could argue even more so than our fans Sat night due to the circumstances.

And since then he has gone on to play for two national titles, winning one of them. So everybody take a deep breath.

Again I think some concern is possibly warranted at this point. But don't give up on Butch yet. And especially don't give up on this team. Go Vols!

Oh my lord. Les Miles went 10-1!! I will forgive in a heartbeat if that is our only loss this year. Les Miles is and was one of the best coaches in the country.

All Very True.

I think most of us will give him the rest of the year to see what happens; perhaps even next year. The Vol Nation demands improvement, not consolation. Let's go team and coaches, do what you have to do to get better and win!

So Dobbs isn't the answer....

Cbj isn't the answer.....

What else is it?

And now you see why I was so opposed to the win or else BS talk here last week.

Good gracious we were 1 play from everyone talking playoffs and now we are here....

1 damn play makes that much difference?

Unreal

I'm not saying Dobbs isn't the answer. But he has to be better going forward

I know difference between bad coaching and a bad coach.

Butch had a bad game. Dooley, Muschamp and even Zook were bad coaches.

Butch isn't that. If you can't see that amomg that group then I don't know what to tell you.

Can we stop with the "but the recruiting" argument? That's obviously not getting W's on the field, there's something holding back our talent and it's obvious who it is.

There are 2 main things holding us back IMO and neither of them is Butch Jones:

1.) All the talented players this staff has recruited are freshmen and sophomores. They need time to develop. This is not unique to TN.

2.) With a couple of notable exceptions, our upperclassmen are not as talented as the upperclassmen of the better teams on our schedule. Every year we will close that talent gap a little more, but, like it or not, there is still a talent gap right now when comparing our upperclassmen to those of the best teams in the country.

People expecting us to steamroll a team like OU just because we have a bunch of talented freshmen and sophomores are delusional. Two years ago we would have been lucky to keep it close against OU. On Saturday we played them, and it looked like a battle of equals. To me, that shows tremendous improvement in our level of play in the relatively short time Butch has been here. The wins are going to come, but these young players need time to develop. Expecting a bunch of underclassmen to look like a finished product is ridiculous.

Butch is not what's wrong with this program; he's what's right with it.
