Basically, today's game didn't mean much other than gaining a win on the way to (7 or 8 or 9 or 10) and knocking the rust off. Trying to project too much from this performance is probably going to cause frustration or optimism (depending on who you are) that will not be accurate. We won...convincingly. We had some deficiencies...we knew this wasn't a perfect team. I don't think today tells us much as it relates to whether we win 7 games or 10 games.

But it is fun to speculate

Btw, Coleman looked great at center! Never ever ever pull him and put him at RT again. That's his position. He even made some great down field blocks. Now, I'm going to duck and go into witness protection before the Crowder 5 finds me.

I agree with this. Everyone hating on Coleman for last year needs to give it up for the young man. He did fantastic today. I don't think I've ever seen a center have such a good first game. If he keeps improving he will be a damn good center.

Hopefully Bowling Green will go out and manhandle the rest of their schedule so that our slaw today will not have been in vain.

I was at the game...saw him in person for the first time...he LOOKS like a 1st round/NFL receiver right now.

Agree. Both him and Jauan Jennings are impressive looking athletes. I have no doubt that if they work hard and stay healthy, they'll be what we thought Darrick Rogers and Justin Hunter would be.

Awesome. Thanks. I'll check the participation list later this week.

I noticed Tuttle earlier in the game.

They were double-teaming and holding Tuttle. I was surprised it never got called but BG drew so many other penalties I guess I can live with it. :)

Our secondary sucked today -- too many out including Coach Martinez -- but with a team like BG, defensive yardage stats are meaningless. They don't play like a traditional team where stats could tell you things rather they play at breakneck speed that by design minimizes the other team's talent advantage and maximizes their ability to put points up.

tl;dr - With a team like BG, the only thing that matters is how many points they scored versus how many points you scored.

Defense was vanilla. Saving it for Okie.

Offense looked good. Hurd and Kamara woof! Kelly passed the eye test good burst.
Deep throws to PW giving teams something to worry about.

Very drunk guy behind me thought Jumper couldn't cover him. Never mind the fact that he couldn't stand up and called everyone Steve. "Way to go Steve! Nice pass"

Maybe he thought he was back at "Adelphia" watching McNair?

Let's start talking about Oklahoma coming to Neyland in 6 days...

I think what determines who wins this game is our DL vs their OL. I think our DL comes out mad, knowing they didn't show what they are capable of yesterday. They will wreak havoc all night on Mayfield, and allow us to drop 7 in coverage (if Jancek will actually do this) with one of those 7 being a QB spy. DBs will look better with Willie back, but will give up some plays. Offense will do what it looks like we do best...run the football.

37-31 Vols

My breakdown.

We need Steve to get healthy, and fast. Otherwise we will continue to see Steve get burned on the 9 route. I believe not having coach Steve in the booth and talking to Steve and Steve along with Steve cost us many of the big plays we saw.

Steve was solid at Center and brings size and athleticism to the position.

For a true freshman, I keep noticing Steve Kirkland. He was robbed of a forced fumble on his sack that should've been a touchdown and he is just fast.

Steve was awesome on DL tonight.

Special teams were awesome except Steve's missed field goals.

Steve had complete control of offense and is a fantastic playmaker and not just a game manager.

Steve and Steve provide the best backfield we've had since Steve and Steve in 2001.

Steve really makes the TE position a weapon.

We had two touchdowns also eliminated by penalties where we got zero points afterwards. Along with a 4th and 3 conversion from their own on 12. This game could've and should've been over in first half. Hopefully Coach Steve lights a fire this week and has the boys ready for Oklahoma.

Delays all over the Land today because of all this BS technology with lightning.

Serious question.

Has anyone here ever heard of a person being seriously injured at a sporting event due to lightning??

I haven't and the lawyers keep making the policies more strick dealing with lightning being detected by technology

I was golfing years ago when lightning struck nearby. It was like a bomb going off & the shock wave blew me off my feet. My fingers tingled for a week afterwards. I was stupid & lucky to survive it.

The course we play here in NM has a device that measures electric charge in the air (+ or -) & automatically sounds an alarm when the reading exceeds a certain level. Developed at NM Tech I believe.

Highlight of the night was during the delay. Some idiot VOL fan ran to the Power T and was close lined by security.

Was I the only one who heard, "****ing pocket" through the refs mic during the 2nd quarter? Did any of yall here that on TV? The crowd was so confused.

I thought he said "get back to your ****ing huddle". It was one of those, oh my goodness I can't believe that just happened, moments.
