The entire reason we nearly hired Greg Schiano yesterday is because Bill Belichick and Urban Meyer told Jimmy Haslam that he's a great coach 4-5 years ago. And he has been obsessed with hiring him in some form or fashion ever since then.
I still think that Currie was hired specifically to hire Greg Schiano.
I'll be honest I'm not a pro-Brohm guy myself (I don't think he has proven enough yet) but after the crap show yesterday I'll be behind the guy 110% just because his name isn't Greg Schiano.
the only shameful thing about the schiano protest was that too many vols fans made it about the penn state situation than the football coaching. Clearly, mcqueary's secondhand retelling of a story in a sealed court document is not anywhere enough to think schiano was directly involved in a cover up. We're just like florida during mcelwain's death threat period, we saw blood in the water that would let us get our true goal, and we took it. I do believe that some fans truly were disgusted by the schiano connection to psu, but most of us just wanted a better coach and saw an effective argument to get one.
One thing here that's interesting. Like some others here, i'm an attorney as well. I haven't heard of many cases where breaking an mou would be cause to have to pay money or a settlement. The only reason i could see that being plausible is if schiano had another head coaching opportunity that he turned down. Then he would have an equity argument for reliance on this contract. I don't see any way that contractual damages come out of an mou. That's the whole point of an mou.
Anybody else see Guarantanos twitter post yesterday regarding the hire? It has since been deleted but they ran it on the news last night. It was a picture of him and Schiano when he was Rutgers coach and JG had visited or something. It was captioned "Reunion"
We just need to suck it up and take the beating from lazy national media. We supported freaking Dooley, we clearly don't just make stuff up about subpar coaches we're stuck with. Schiano is 10x the coach Dooley is, and yet we didn't revolt against the Dooley hire or the butch hire. Anyone who wants to put forth a shred of effort in understanding yesterday's phenomenon can easily see this had much more to do with the PSU association than it did with football, or we'd have protested a hundred times harder when we got butch and Dooley.
Edit and on top of all that, a little more effort would reveal that boosters and legislators killed the deal, not outraged fans. I just hate how lazy the media is. But we might as well get used to it because nothing generates clicks like bashing Tennessee.
I love Dan Patrick but he can EAD. He would be lambasting UT this morning for hiring a guy associated with Sandusky had it stuck.
And the media will fail to mention that we are happily (or grudgingly) supporting someone WITH A FAR WORSE RESUME THAN SCHIANO.
1) Did we ever actually interview anyone else or even contact to gauge interest from coaches such as Frost, Petersen, Mullen, etc.?
2) Kind of a follow up to the first question, Has Schiano been the pick the whole time?
3) Do you think this was mostly on Currie or mostly a Haslem choice or both?
4) Is there some kind of split in the Athletic Department right now and between boosters? Meaning one side was duped into thinking this search was going a completely different direction than it went?
5) Is Currie and/or the Haslems that out of touch with the pulse of the fans that they thought this was ever be a good idea? Even if you take the Penn state stuff out of the equation, I think there would have been plenty of uproar on this hire from a fit and coaching standpoint
6) What is each of you guys personal opinion on the hire if it would have went through? From a coaching standpoint, fit, perception and if you thought TN could have done better?

Dan Patrick saying UT fans are delusional thinking this is a top tier job. The only reason went didnt want Schiano was because we didnt like him as a coach and were using the Penn St. basically as and excuse.
Also brought up the Title IX lawsuit and asked where the protests were.
Saw it but dont get the fans reaction to that post like JG got.
He clearly knew Schiano from his younger days and had some sort of relationship with him. Thought he was going to be the coach and was excited for that.
Sadly, this is quite believable. It is also very believable that the resumé of the next coach UT will not be as good as Schiano's.
