We're going to have to settle regardless. This was a very public, very ugly spectacle that has doubtlessly damaged the perception of Tennessee.

Greg Schiano will not be the Vols' next head coach.

According to VolQuest.com sources, Tennessee's talks with the Ohio State defensive coordinator broke down on Sunday evening following unprecedented fan backlash on social media and UT's campus.

Schiano appeared set to replace Butch Jones, as multiple outlets, including VolQuest.com, reported negotiations were taking place Sunday. Tennessee's first-year athletics director John Currie flew up to Columbus, Ohio in hopes of bringing Schiano, 51, back to Knoxville for an announcement this evening.

However, when Schiano's potential hiring was leaked, the news was met with a thunderous social media storm and protests on campus due to allegations against Schiano in the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State.

After a wild day, Tennessee's coaching search will now move forward with greater uncertainty. At some point in the near future, Currie is expected to address the media to discuss today's unfoldings, per sources.

Haslam hires these pigeons to do his handy work. He owns the BOT. He has these morons do his bidding and when things go south, he just gets them fired and does it all over again. He has all that insulation which prevents any of the fallout from coming back on him.

oh my God y'all. today has been insane. I am so ****ing proud of this fanbase. we set the tree up today and I left the Tennessee ornaments in the box because I was ready to call it quits on this university. I was sad all day. Not for me. But for the incredible people that I have met and spoken with here, at games and throughout the world. The people of Tennessee are a different breed. Morals come first. Honesty, integrity and loving by the word of God are pivotal, not just in theory, but embedded in the culture of east Tennessee. I am appalled by the AD but damn proud of this fanbase, the local media and people of east Tennessee.

I have posted once before and will probably not post for a long time. This time I just had to say I am so proud of volnation for standing up for what’s right. I am a graduate of Tennessee Tech and not UT but am I lifelong fan of UT. I have the license plate and the vol colors. I know that it probably won’t happen but the very thought of Philip Fulmer and former vols taking over the reins and saving the day brings goosebumps. Even though this probably won’t happen it is just who we are!!! GO VOLS to whoever gets the job!

Based on his current legal situation, this seems to be a system he’s done well with.

I'm fine with that, but even better: Florida lost out on Frost, because he wanted to finish out the season with his team. Let him do that, and throw a bunch of money at him.

This way we get someone who should have been at or near the top tier from the beginning. He could also start out with the newly appointed AD fully in place.

So here is what we know now:

Gruden was never in play.

Currie didn’t have a master plan. Unless the plan was to deliver the final nail to the coffin.

Mullen was never in the back pocket.

Currie preferred Schiano over Taggart, Sumlin, Campbell, and others.

We have an absolute clown running our AD. No reason to expect any thing from this next hire.

DEFCON 1. Circle the wagons, hire Cut, bring in a staff of VFLs, get Fulmer involved and let's fix this thing.
