Question for you VN experts: Are any of our young LBs quick enough/coverage skills to play safety should it come to that? (Elliott Berry, Bates, Sapp?) :question:

If I recall correctly a lot of people projected Bates to play safety once he got into college. I know he definitely had the speed and measurements to play the position. Also the bloodline his Dad had a pretty good career at safety.

Haha. Didn't see that until you posted that, Jave. That is embarrasing. But then again losing to them 3 years in a row has been embarrassing to me.

This team isn't at championship level yet. Even apart from the O-line, there is too much youth and inexperience. There is talent all over, but it's not that three-or-four-years-in-the-SEC talent yet. Depending on how this year shakes out, next year's team could push that envelope.

This year's team can still be an SEC East champion. It's got talent to burn. But it's going to take some luck here and there.

I agree. Expectations have been askew for a while now. 8-9 wins is reasonable to expect from this team. The play of the DL and QB can get us there. You don't have to have a bulletproof roster to win 8 or 9 games.

2016 will hopefully be the first year of many in which we're primed to make some noise. And that's all due to recruiting. It's amazing the job Butch has done so far in flipping the roster. We all went nuts when Hurd committed back in March 2013, but that commitment would have been nearly meaningless without the stacks and stacks of talent that Butch has assembled elsewhere on the roster.

It's nice we finally are starting to have some depth to not tank a season over the injuries we have had.

I agree. It does take some luck to win championships. We've had several teams more talented and experienced over the years that couldn't win a championship.

100% agree. That's not to say this team (119) has any 100% losses on the schedule. Every team they play should take the Vols seriously. They should have the ability to hang with anyone.

Though I agree it's crazy Mizzou is going to ASU, I've been by their campus multiple times this year and they were adding seats, boxes, and a 100 yard indoor facility (sorry Georgia). Regardless still embarrassing
