So much battered spouse syndrome on this site. There is tons of talent on this team. I believe in Butch and his staff. Now is their time to start winning.

My opinion (not that anyone cares) we win 9 games

I don't disagree with your breakdown, but you are saying USC and UF are automatic wins. I agree that we should beat them, but football is a week by week game. Teams underachieve and overachieve each week. You are giving us an automatic win against a team we haven't beaten in 10 years and against a coach who used to beat us regularly. I know that means nothing this year, but it is still tough to give them an automatic victory.

I just refuse to be flat out disappointed with progress. Every year would have been better under Butch.

I think I fall squarely in the realist camp on this because I think we go 8-4. 7 WOULD be disappointing.

UF has issues on the OL and plenty of other areas. Who does UGA have at QB? Every team has issues, some have them in spades.


I'll agree to disagree. If this staff is going to win here, it's time to show it.

We have fewer issues than UF amd Mizzou and probably less than UGA. I agree that 8 or fewer wins is a disappointment.

I still say 8 wins is a good baseline. No question in my mind we lose at least 2-3 more key players to injury for an extended period (happens every year). We have enough depth to where that won't kill our season, but I think it limits our upside. 8 wins is a solid year. Nothing to get excited about but solid.

as close as we were last yr to 8 wins with basically no depth i can see us getting 9. If that 9th one comes in a bowl then its a good season.

Very good point. The argument goes both ways, but people forget they were within a hair of beating Florida and Georgia, not to mention the 2 end zone picks against Oklahoma that turned the game. Baseline expectation is 8 wins. If we get the breaks and bounces, 10 is a very real possibility. So is 7 by the same argument, but I think it's much easier win by luck than to lose by luck, if that makes sense. Easier to take advantage of breaks and hold them off when they go against you than to get completely derailed by them.

7 would just suck, unless one of the wins was against Bama or something. To me 7 indicates almost zero progress, because we should have won 7 last season with slightly better luck. Hell, we were close to 7 in 2013.

8 should be the baseline and 9 should be the goal. This team is more than capable of that.

If we do only win 7, I think Butch starts to feel some heat but it will be forgotten by the time 2016 rolls around. He absolutely has to win 9-10 that season, though.

Yep. 8 wins. Anything more will obviously be great. 7 wins is a big thumbs down. The Vols have to make a lot more noise this year..

I used the term "unacceptable" for 7. My reason is much of what you posted.

7 wins means we go 4-5 against the rest of schedule other than the 3 give me's. That's not a good season for a team with this much talent. I know injuries can play a large role in amount of wins, but we have depth now.

Teams we face this year like Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Bama all have strengths that play right into our strengths. Those teams are power run orientated. That is great because we are loaded on the DL. We can (I believe) we win at least 2 of those games.

We won't struggle near as much as you. We've actually got talent on offense. Our defense about to flat out dominate this game. It's going to be much worse than last year. We overmatch that offense everywhere. Sutton will mail DRob his azz back the next week again. :)

You been on that Tang all off season. I like it tho.

We got the goons to shut that down. Problem last yr was being handicap by Driskel. We'll stack the box and make Dobbs beat our 3 future First round CBs.

I really feel that this team, although they are young, are primed to win. I think we arrive on the big stage a year earlier than anticipated and hoped, and go 10-2.
