whine away

Kerbyson at LT and Robertson at RG are two that are pretty much locked into those positions. It would take a move of Kerbyson to RG for either to be moved.

Thomas worked at right tackle yesterday.

Robertson took some center snaps yesterday.

look for the OL positions to be nailed down in about 10 days. the next 10 days will be lots of shuffling around to see who might be able to handle certain spots in the event of injuries.

LT - Kerbyson
LG - Jackson
C - Crowder
RG - Robertson
RT - Kendrick

One more random weigh in. If you had to pick a UT position that is somewhat over hyped which is it?

I'd say passing more than a specific position because Dobbs, line, and recievers have not always been complimentary of each other. Hoping DeBord fixes that.

I've always felt our safeties are over hyped. While Randolph and McNeil are great in run support they get taken advantage of in passing situations.

Todd Kelly brought instincts and playmaking ability back there from the time I watched him. He need to improve in run support.

Have you felt like our passing game lived up to the talent yet? Of course there have been glimpses but either recievers have been hurt, oline failed to block, or Dobbs lacked touch. Under Bajakian there was very little consistency passing.

Dobbs only started 6 games. His WRs were injured but they weren't bad. We averaged 200 yards rushing with Dobbs at QB. And I think 36.7 points per game. I'd say they meshed pretty well. The OC misused the talent IMO

Yes our safeties are in the box players. Berry and TKjr are what the defense needs athletically on the backend.

You think Sutton playing Nickel helps this? Was a thought I had.

I think it help tremendously. Randolph was abused left and right with Pharoah Cooper in South Carolina game.

Imagine Sutton on Cooper all game. He'll still make some plays but not 200 yards with 3 touchdowns.

I think Kerbyson as a SR keeping his spot despite not being the ideal length, Crowder possibly keeping the center spot although not being as athletic as needed, and Gilliam playing injured all speaks to knowledge of scheme and chemistry being more important than raw ability at OL. Talented but youthful linemen just are at a big disadvantage more than any other position.

My point. Rushing was more consistent than passing. Not one issue with passing but several. Lot of untapped potential there. Hyped as they may be the recievers either haven't fully stepped up, were injured, or didn't get good passes.

Case could be made Oline is hardest position in football with smallest window of playing opportunity.

I have to disagree. Our WRs made plays last year. They'll continue to grow with their QB. IMO

That's why i said passing not recievers. We basically agree though. I just think a lot of untapped and in some cases (Bajakian) wasted potential with all factors involved.

I think the OL deserves some blame for this last year as well. And injuries. I think this year will give us a much better indication of what we have, and whether certain of these guys are busts. I personally don't think any are, and I'm excited to watch them play. I think we are going to light some teams up this year in the passing game. Can't wait.

I would love to see some formations with Jakob in a fullback role where he is the lead blocker for Hurd.. Maybe in a goal line situation. I feel like he just needs to be pointed towards a defender and told to smash.

That, sir, is beautiful. I'm not if they could/would scheme it in but I'd go nuts.

I'm pretty sure I remember Luke Stocker in a similar role early in his career at UT.

The line about lots of shuffling over the next 10 days is enough for me to not wring my hands over it for another 10 days.

We'll see where they are at then.

I think who we see in open practice is likely to be starters by game one.
