It is very hard to believe. Has been really depressing to watch how far CHA athletics have fallen. It was the beginning of the end for the football program when they got rid of Joel Helton, IMO.

politics my friend, that is what drove that change. When I was there, there was a ton of talent in all three big sports. Some of those guys blew their chances though.

Covering an NFL team is probably much easier/less stressful than covering a college team.

Not having to follow recruiting has to be a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. I can't imagine essentially being on call to write a story every time someone commits out of the blue.

Yeah rough life. Getting paid to do what we sit on here and do every day for free. Free access to all practices, games, locker room. I'm surprised he didn't quit earlier.

Jonesboro (Ga.) Jonesboro 2016 Top247 defensive back Jordan Griffin is up to six offers, with Wake Forest being the most recent to extend a scholarship. A 247Sports Composite four-star, Griffin is rated No. 28 in Georgia, No. 27 cornerback in the country, and No. 273 overall prospect in the 2016 class. He recently took trips to Tennessee, Kentucky and North Carolina, and discussed them with 247Sports at the McEachern 7-on-7 Wednesday.
"I like Coach Ansley," Griffin said. "I like the way (Derrick Ansley) he approaches me, I like the way he talks highly of the program. I like the way he coaches his own players."
The Vols have a built-in advantage for Griffin because of one of the young stars in their secondary.
"I like Tennessee because one of my teammates went to Tennessee, Cameron Sutton cornerback No. 23," Griffin said. "He is a very good role model in my life. He is my own mentor, so I look up to him a lot and that plays a big factor."
Griffin hopes to add an offer from the TarHeels next, after being impressed with what he saw in Chapel Hill. One Crystal Ball is on to Louisville, where former Jonesboro standout and current Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas once played.

Completely agree. It was an almost impossible task to replace Bud Bales on the diamond as well. He was probably the best hitting instructor I've ever been around.

Agreed. Politics was involved. I still believe it was handled the wrong way. And the football team hasn't accomplished much of anything post Helton.

And yeah, there were some freakish athletes that played for CHS that blew their chances. So many couldn't make the grades or just couldn't stay out of trouble with the law. I played opposite-side from a DE at CHS that had the natural talent to play SEC football, IMO. Dominated every game. Was pretty much unblockable. He didn't end up attending college. Could have been great though.

Bud Bales was a coaching legend. CHS had some dominant baseball teams under Bales. I believe CHS was the #1 ranked prep baseball team in the entire nation one season with Todd Helton & Bubba Trammell.

Except most beat reporters aren't fans of the teams they cover and could care less about that stuff.

Nice try, though.

They aren't fans, they're reporters. It's their job to be impartial and something that true journalism professionals take very seriously, just like doctors with the Hippocratic Oath (or whatever it's called these days).

Wes Rucker is a doosh, but I admire the impartiality with which he covers Tennessee given that he went here.

Total homer reporters are the worst. That's why I hate the children that report for Vandy Scout & 247.

I never said that.

I said that covering an NFL team is probably an easier and less stressful job than covering a college team.

Plus, after a while, the novelty of that would wear off, as you're there to work, not enjoy the game.

I've never covered live sports, but I've been a reporter, and it's stressful as hell to cover live events and be expected to produce an error-free and accurate story within 20-30 minutes of said event ending.

Not to mention the 24/7 presence you have to maintain on Twitter.

SIAP. Peyton Manning will be the speaker at the Athens Chamber of Commerce event that had Saban a couple years ago.. So since everyone complained and whined that Saban came, everyone and their brother should buy tickets to go see Peyton.
