multiple sources have told volquest.com that redshirt freshman quarterback riley ferguson may not rejoin the team for the beginning of first-session summer school later this week and could seek a transfer to a lower-division school this summer, ending his tennessee career before it ever officially began. Sources also confirmed to volquest.com that ferguson no longer is registered for summer classes at ut.

"based on our recent conversations, i do not anticipate him (ferguson) to be a member of our football family moving forward," jones told volquest.com here at the southeastern conference's annual spring meetings.

ffffffff.

Is it too early to make a numbers joke?

Nope. Looks like the # would now be 15 if Riley does not return and Swafford going on scholarship.

82-12 SRs leaving after this year=70. Add 15 new guys and your at 85. 5 more kids leave and your looking at taking 20.

Been thinking about this also....

I've come to one conclusion... Bajakian

If I was a QB prospect, I would have several reservations about him being my mentor for the next 4-5 years. I'm just being honest.

I've been wondering the same thing, sort of, about whether the reticence of big name QBs to jump on board has anything to do with the staff's lack of an NFL or a household name QB they can point to and say "see, we did that". But it doesn't make any sense, because though LeFevour and Collaros weren't exactly big hits in the league, they were both solid to very good college QBs. All of Jones' teams have been OCed by Jake and it hasn't seemed to hurt them in the QB department.

More on Ferguson:

"Ferguson returned to his home in Mathews, N.C., a Charlotte suburb, for break before the Vols were set to begin first-session summer school classes Thursday and reportedly told coaches and teammates he was contemplating not returning to the UT program. Sources familiar with the situation said that Ferguson could request a transfer to the fledgling UNC-Charlotte program that just relaunched last season."

"Since Charlotte isn't a fully participating Football Bowls Subdivision program, it's unclear if Ferguson would have to sit out the mandatory year. It also was indicated to VolQuest.com that any request for a release would be met with the most stringent restraints."

"However, it's also been noted by some on campus that while Ferguson returned home to relax last week, both Worley and Dobbs flew to California to work with noted quarterback guru George Whitfield."

If he really dipped out because he was mad he didn't win the job, then it's probably not a bad thing. The QB race is WIDE OPEN and he is leaving regardless. Not a trait I want in my quarterback

It's 1 spot. You do know 5 more have to leave to take 20 right?

Sooo... you were saying there was no way that 2 qb's can be taken this year, the 2nd spot would be better elsewhere. Now that there is an additional spot, you have a different argument? Swafford was going on scholly before Ferguson bolted...

Was really excited about Ferguson's potential, but that's all it's as, potential. Dobbs has a higher floor, and had a better O&W game. Dobbs is also an astronaut, so we know he has a good head on his shoulders. He is fast and has been working all offseason on his skills. Worley is a sure bet in that you know what production you will get. Is he a game breaker? No, but he is consistent and led us to a win over USCe last year. We still need to pick up another QB commit, but this is not a crippling loss.

Just my .02

Yes, I agree that now a 2nd QB makes sense. I mentioned that a while ago that if 1 of Dobbs, Fergs, or Peterman bailed, taking another in 2015 or finding a transfer would make sense.

The number for the "class" is still on the low end as it's 15 spots with 11-12 commitments already onboard.

Alright come on volatil. I need a quick boost of how good Jennings is to help me feel better about our qb future

Agreed.

I wonder how long Bray would have lasted under CBJ...

My eggs are now fully in the Dobbs basket. Hope he wins the job this fall.

Pretty disappointed to hear about Ferguson. Based on all reports, he had the most arm talent of our quarterbacks and had the best potential. I was hopeful that he would improve his decision making and take the starting job from Worley.

We really need a quarterback commit soon. Down to 2 for next season and to be honest I'm not that excited about Peterman. Hopefully Dobbs turns out to be a good player.

Also, this news makes the spring game that much more interesting to reflect on. Didn't some folks suggest the coaches purposefully blitzed Ferguson more than they did the others? Wonder how well that set with him.

CBJ is a demanding dude. Work hard or go home. Must be a somewhat similar thing to what happened to J Carr (although sounds like this one may be more than just a work ethic issue).
