Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Perhaps there are some that think we "upgraded," but I've seen more people, myself included, who just wonder if it's going to be as big a drop off as you'd expect losing all those talented guys.

These guys could be a better fit for this system. They've had a year under the current coaching staff and scheme. The inconsistency of the guys leaving was a surprise last season. No doubt those guys have talent, but on a whole, there's little argument there was a bit of underachieving. Some of that, too, was the guys around them being so new. Those guys aren't so new anymore and should help the new line.

There are quite a few reasons to be optimistic or at least hopeful. Only time will tell though.

this is where i am at - i wouldnt say we upgraded but I don't think the dropoff will be dramatic - and if we improve at the skill positions as much as we are capable of then I think it will be a nonexistent dropoff

our OL last year wasnt a great fit for the scheme and the group was never a good run blocking group

I doubt we give up 30 sacks b/c I think our QB will be running a lot and will be getting it out of their hands quick to guys like VP who can then take it to the house - something we desperately needed last year

It still blows my mind how we have so many fans who think we "upgraded" on the OL even though we lost at least 4 NFL players.

No offense to anybody in particular..I've seen a ton of people say it.

Replacing the top 6 OL from last year will definitely be a huge challenge. Most programs will have maybe two turnovers per year, but losing 5 starters is incredible. That having been said, I'm one of those looking for a good season from this year's OL. My #1 concern from last year's line was that they didn't play with an attitude. I believe the upcoming OL brings that attitude, and I expect their level of strength to be much higher following the winter workouts. Run blocking will be better, but pass protection will be an issue initially. I think VN will be happy with the OL following the end of next season.

I was confused after listening to CBJ at the Kickoff Club luncheon. He was asked about kids committing without getting "permission" to commit. He said he couldn't understand coaches throwing out offers that were not committable. I thought that all offers were not committable until the coach accepted a player's commitment. We have dozens of offers out there for the 2015 class, but only have 18-22 positions open. I was just a little puzzled by what CBJ said. I definitely need to go back and listen to it again.

He pretty much said he doesn't do "non-committable" offers and that he doesn't understand programs that do. It definitely runs counter to the general belief held on here and other places.

Some VERY interesting comments directly from the horses's mouth on what Butch Jones thinks about "non-committable offers"...this is about as close to taking a sarcastic shot as you'll ever hear him get, imo. Fast forward to 25:00:

Thanks for posting this. :hi:

Worth the 30minute watch, IMO.

Seems to be a fib, considering we have at least 197 offers out there right now and some other evidence.

"And all are commitable."

- bUTch Jones

I think CBJ hands out "non-committable" offers(not right now). Pretty sure the term he used in the video is an "un-committable" offer. When I hear un-committable it makes me think the offer would never become committable.

The fact that UT has extended almost 200 offers obviously shows not all offers are committable right now.

Numbers problem?

OT: For the guys with a 247 and VQ sub, which one do you like better?

Personally, I like VQ.

VQ, hands down. 247 seems to have more comprehensive ratings & definitely better features than the outdated rivals system. BRAJP are without question what VQ great.
