Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

I honestly can't get my head around the "yeah its the Sweet 16...but I don't know...I still ain't happy" thought process.

Cite the favorable matchups all you want. Its a tournament sport and you can only play what's in front of you. Plenty of teams enter the tournament each year with favorable matchups yet can't match the intensity and emotion of their opponent and end up at home after 1 or 2 games.

Its not like UT is out there jacking up miracle 3s and getting crazy bounces. They choked out Iowa in OT and beat both UMass and Mercer like they owed them money.

There's more going on than just favorable matchups.

Speaking of favorable matchups...

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sweet-16-teams-confirm-a-timeless-lesson--don-t-give-up-on-the-season-153417152.html

Ask Tennessee. On Feb. 22, the Volunteers were beaten for the second time this season by Texas A&M – and Texas A&M is awful. Tennessee was 16-11, 7-7 in the Southeastern Conference, and fans were calling for Cuonzo Martin's head. But Martin didn't give up on the season. Since then the Vols have won eight of nine and bring their big shoulders and thick chests to Indy as a legit threat to Big Ten champion Michigan.

And I'll say this. Tournament play above all else is about matchups and solid D. We've had both fall our way and Michigan is no different. I've always believed Pearl's coaching style wasn't suited for long tourney runs, but Cuonzo's style is perfect for it. Problem has been getting to a tournament that meant anything...

Early in the year, they were awful some games and good in others. No consistency, no discernible game plan, not very good defense. Hard to watch and really frustrating. The last 8 or so games, they have been really good on both ends of the floor. Not really sure why the sudden change, but I read that some of the players said they were playing hard for Cuonzo to keep his job. For the record, I didn't sign the petition. Had they maintained the pace they were on, I don't believe Cuonzo would have survived. As it is, they got it going just in time. Doesn't really matter why.

So im sitting here watching Arky and Cal in the NIT....

Arky only has 6 points so far.....with 7:19 left in the 1st half!!!

Brutal

Yep...right there. Hickville is putting it mildly lol...couldn't stand the entire area whatsoever.

I'm glad somebody knows what I'm talking about. thank god I was born in Wisconsin and didn't move until middle school I hate to know what I would have turned out like being there from the beginning. Such a terrible place, majority of the region are so far gone on drugs it's ridiculous. Plus, all the "Ohio State" fans. I know more about the team than most of them. Wear their little block O shirts when they are winning. Lol. Gosh I hate that place.

Who would have dreamed that Tennessee's reemergence on the national stage would be ushered in by the men's basketball team?

This guy.

You know it...lol. Horrible place...I'm not sure what was worse all the dopeheads or the OSU "fans" lol. I proudly displayed my orange and white every chance I got. Shew...this is bringing back bad memories lol

I don't mind the state of Ohio so much - actually spent some time up at OU over Christmas break and the town of Athens + surrounding area are gorgeous, much like East TN - but the love affair between Southern kids and Ohio State is sickening.

Yo, Freak. Relevance??

Last I checked, this was the thread entitled "Recruiting Forum: FOOTBALL talk". If you roundball junkies have to pollute the recruiting forum, do so in your own thread.

Patience, grasshopper! The return of spring football is close...soon!

I was asked to go to Ohio once to install satellites for a month about 30 miles north of Chillicothe. We had work orders every day all around that area. On my 30th day there, I realized not a single person had offered me a sandwich or even a pepsi the whole time i was there. 4 jobs a day minimum. So i had been in over 120 homes. On the last day this old lady said.. "You want a sandwich or something to drink honey?" I immediately said Thank God! I was beginning to lose faith in humanity. You're in someones attic or crawl space for 2 and a half hours and hospitality never crosses their mind. I sat with her and had lunch. Guess where she was from? Vols B**ch!!
