Opiate?...hallucinogenic?..don't tell me...I want to figure it out for myself

Did you not read the parentheses under my post? I said those were possible scenarios if Butch hadn't accepted the UT job.

Overpaid. :eek:hmy:

Best thing about this, is no Strong to Florida after next season, if things tank in Gainesville

That Clemson "interception" by the linebacker was not a real interception. OSU lost though, so I'll allow it.

Completely agree. I think it's pretty disingenuous when Strong wants to stay at UL last year with the best AD in the country and bolts for Texas. I get the appeal to Texas, but he will be on a short leash.

Will someone for the love of all things holy tell me the difference between will, mike, jack, and Sam linebackers?

4-3 Defense: WILL=Weak Side LB, MIKE=Middle LB, and SAM=Strong Side LB.

On runs MIKE is responsible for anything inside the tackles while WILL/SAM outside contain. On passes it depends on the coverage called. Zone Coverage: MIKE drops in a hook zone in middle of field. SAM/WILL responsible for the flats. Man Coverage: SAM either has TE with Safety help over the top or RB/HB on Strong Side. WILL has RB/HB on Weak Side. MIKE is responsible for other RB/HB if there is one.

3-4 Defense: WILL=Weak ILB, MIKE=Strong ILB, SAM=Strong OLB, and JACK=Weak OLB. The JACK LB is typically a hybrid DE/OLB.

OLBs are responsible for outside contain on runs and rush QB in passing game. ILBs: one is usually a run stuffer and the other is maybe a little undersized and quicker, better in pass coverage.

Just relatively basic info but hope it helps a little... :hi:

WILL- weak side, MIKE- middle, SAM- strong side, JACK- hybrid middle linebacker/defensive end used in a 3-4 scheme, can play both standing and hand in the dirt

Strong will do well in Austin. Tex has to keep its best talent from BamaLsu and A&M. Look for Strong to keep Larry Porter and make a run at Tim Brewster...getting Dallas kids was never an issue its Houston where they are losing battle bc Brown lost touch with inner city kids and A&M Lsu got the best there. Getting Hou in order then getting a few Sofla kids...Tex football is going to look a lot like UM back in day. Good hire by Horns.

I am wondering now with the hiring of these coaches to other schools if we will be able to shake lose a commitment or two that we need to finish off this class. Like a DT or RB? Discuss this amongst yourselves.

If I'm a TX fan then I'm not really impressed. I would have been expecting more with all the money they had. That's just my opinion though.

He's a great coach. That's all that will matter ultimately. He may not have the recruiting ties immediately in Texas, but he's smart enough to fill his staff with great recruiters who are connected in the state. He'll do great there.

Strong has done a fantastic recruiting job at Louisville. He's already got 1 - 4* in his first 24 recruits. If he can do that at Texas they will shoot straight to the top!
Yep. :ermm:

Differnt talent pool. Lville got a lot out of those 3* like Parker Garcia Clark Marcus Smith and others wouldnt you agree? He wont have that 3* issue at Tex.

It's all about perception with Strong. Guy is riding a wave. Can't blame him.

But if he gets the Texas job he will have to prove himself as a head coach, unlike the deal he's had at UL with the lesser competition and going after 3* kids in Florida. Just look at Butch's recruiting - how many kids are choosing UL/Strong over UT/Jones? Not happening and UT has been down for a half dozen years.

There are too many good options for Texas kids. Sumlin, Briles, Patterson, and even Kingsbury; north of the border with Stoops, Gundy, and Pinkel; east of the border with Miles and Saban; all the other major programs cherry picking. Doable, but much harder.

I'm really surprised how many coaches have apparently turned down the Texas job. Saban, Fisher, Malzahn, Briles, Mora? Anyone else? For a supposedly top 3 job it's odd that they had to go with their 6th, 7th, 8th best option?

Will have little to no impact on Houston kids. A&M is 90 miles from Houston and will continue to be the choice destination for them. Last time I checked Sumlin is more accomplished than Strong and is in a better conference.

Horns made a good hire but absolutely struck out on a great hire.

Lol! Butch was our 3rd option unless you thought Gruden was realistic.

Strong not done yet. Wanna bet holdup is Clint Hurtt.

He has a showcause and I think it was an issue Tennessee would not let him on board last year as well.

Thinking thats a major holdup for Strong.

I agree that it has gotten a little tougher for Texas. But that said, when they have a good coach in place, they will recruit well. I was born in Dallas and entire family from Texas. Texas is the state institution, and alot of kids grow up wanting to go there. Briles, Patterson, Kingsbury, and many times Stoops will not stop Texas. Waco and Lubbock are not nearly the places like Austin, and OU is far away for most of the talent down south. Texas should only have to compete with Miles, Sumlin, and sometimes Saban. It is a good gig. You basically have to beat the Oklahoma schools and there is no championship.

Proves just how big a pain in the a$$ the politics of Texas football is perceived to be.

Saban I'm suprised. Fisher got his raise. Malzahn has his team in the NC. Mora got a raise. Briles is a head scratcher. I'm suprised Texas didn't go the NFL route.
