I don't even know how i feel about the concept of a "big-time OC"

Obviously some offenses are absolute monsters. Not denying that.

seems like by the time that's the label, they're heading for a HC job, not a lateral (lol, excuse the pun) move coordinator job.

who would be your all-star coordinator pick?
Chad Morris

Edit: Malzahn if we can go with anyone

Texas looking into Jimmy Frank as the coach? Anybody think this could happen? Pure speculation on my part. Just hit me, I bet his name is brought up but I don't know

All star implies anyone. If that was the case, I'd take Malzahn or Chip Kelly.

Of current college offensive coordinators, Chad Morris, Mike Norvell, and Rhett Lashlee (though it's hard to know how much is him and how much is Gus) have all impressed me.

Rumor is that Bama will hire Kiffin today as some type of offensive assistant or consultant.

I hope that rumor is true. Bama will most certainly find themselves on probation (sooner or later) with Kiffin on the staff full time.

If you could take any coach, Gus and the sweater and I wouldn't think twice about it.

Any assistant though, Phillip Montgomery no doubt IMO. Clarence McKinney (not a full OC I don't think) and Chad Morris are also great.

The ignore this thread feature is great for kids that sign elsewhere.

Agreed. In light of the RR news it has helped prioritize my thoughts in a positive direction. I'm gona go on a little rant and vent my negative energy on Auburn. I'd started to like them but first off I'd like to deposit the Lambert thread in the toilet because I think he knew his decision long ago but stayed commited because those cheating bastards told him to so we wouldn't have time to fill the spot. Then I hope Florida St beats their azz. After that malzahn parlays their lucky bounce run into a big deal at Texas followed by NCAA dropping the hammer on their crooked cheating azzes. Sorry SCTiger ok I'm good now. Happy Holidays

You guys here on VN are good people. Love all you guys like brothers. I probably lurk more than post, so I was incredibly surprised at how the news about Rich hit me.

Live your life fellas. It's never too late to follow a dream you once had. Even if you hit that mid life crisis and realize you've just been floating through, you still have half a life to work towards that dream everyday. Make the most of this. For all we know, it's all we have...

Smokescreen...it's going to be Saban. He's setting the move up beautifully with the Kiffin hire. :)

Hey bruh, I get it. We are all fans of our respective schools and have strong feelings about long-term commits switching at last minute. We have dealt with that several times when commits flipped to Bama in January.

I have no doubt that the Vols will rebound quickly. You have the #2 recruiting class with numerous EEs. I would not be surprised that we soon meet in SECCG in Atlanta.

Happy Holidays to you too. :hi:

Does anybody on here have a screen printing business? I'd love to buy a t shirt with rich's avatar on it, with a simple RichRollin VFL on it. Maybe the proceeds could go to his family and we can keep this thing "Rollin" I hate to bring it up again but it's got me with a pit in my stomach over a man I've never even met. It's shown me that my love for all things TN wasn't as irrational as I thought. But runs deeper than I've ever imagined, even to the point of including nuts like you guys. I lost my father at age five so my heart is with his three sons tonight. I can't begin to tell you all of the challenges a loss like that presents to a young boy. Learning to drive, changing the oil, who to ask for advice about girls, who to borrow a car for the prom.... How to be a good father when you've seen no example of one. It's like you learn and listen twice as intently to what your friends say and do because each one is a little bit of a father to you, helping you to catch up in the lessons you missed out on.

I can relate and understand exactly what you're saying. Fortunately, I ended up with a step-father that modeled for me exactly how NOT to be a father, so I was a better father to my son.

I'm kinda split on the OC personally. On one hand he's severely undermanned. On the other hand he was creative at all in getting players with certain skill sets into advantageous matchups. I really want to see what he does but I don't trust him at all yet.

Good post. I agree. Jury is still out. Maybe with more tools in the tool belt he will show us what he can do.

i get what you are saying but talent makes OC's look a lot better

there just weren't a lot of malone's and pearson's playing WR for us this year

there also wasnt a Hurd

now if we can't get some exciting things happening with Hurd, Pearson, Malone, North, Pig, etc - now we have a problem

JONES: We just concluded a very productive semester - the 2nd highest GPA in our program. 40 players with a 3.0 or above.

Just to clarify, he said 2nd highest in program history for a Fall semester. What Butch and this staff have done with academic/football relations is something they should be extremely proud of. No secret it was a bit of a mess before he got here.

Butch deserves a lot of credit for getting the academic people on the same page with the football program and stressing to them how important academics are for his players. That brick in the foundation of this program is just as big as any recruits we may get, imo. I doubt we'll be reading any stories similar to the one recently about fsu's players getting preferential treatment.

The faculty appreciation breakfast Butch did back during spring practice was a great idea (one of many) and seems to be paying off. Iirc, the moto for that event was ONE TENNESSEE.

Butch not only eliminated the negative recruiting about our recent academic troubles but he turned our academic support system into a big selling point on the recruiting trail. He's now able to sell parents on the fact that their son's will have the best resources in the country to be successful in the classroom first before they can be successful on the field. Big credit to Butch also for getting Joe Scoggins from Mizz to oversee the Thornton Center after he was there 11 years and is considered one of, if not the, best in the business. That probably wasn't just as easy as offering him more money.

We all know the one coach who this irritates the most. Haha, I love it. I'd be curious to see whether or not vu player's gpa's have increased or decreased under JF. I'd bet they've slipped a bit with some of the trash he's brought there. Those recruiting profiles Butch mentioned in today's presser.....yeah, I seriously doubt JF actually cares about the character and other aspects of a recruit as much as Butch does.

Butch has taken one of vu's biggest selling points in a good education and has shown over these last two semesters that he takes it just as serious. He's not just talking the talk. There used to be no question where to go between UT and vu if a recruit was very serious about his academics. Now, not so much.

@Josh_Ward: Butch Jones said on @SportsAnimal99 that Tennessee will sign more than 30 prospects in the 2014 class.

Boom!!! No more speculation... This staff has found a way for sure to work around the number issue.

As far as Offensive Coordinators and Defensive Coordinators go, wouldn't it make sense that once they are working in the SEC, the more SEC tape they watch, the more they see what other teams are doing successfully, the better their play calling should get? That makes sense to me, but I'm just wondering.

We tend to speak of them as either good or not, and I realize we don't want to be a coach training ground, but I would imagine there would be a marked improvement from a Coordinator's first year in the SEC to his second one.

Again, just wondering.

My problem was with some of our play designs. They were just dumb at times. Then after the SCAR game we went away from the bunch formation. I thought it was our best formation after watching it work two games straight. The screen game is just schematically off to me. A lot of them don't have a chance in hell. I wouldn't mind seeing them studying Oregon, FSU, or Okie State's offenses from just an Xs and Os standpoint this offseason.
