Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

You may be right. However, being situated with bama in same state with some top national recruits, creates the need to prove you are at least competitive on the field to compete for recruits.

We were pulling in solid recruits this year before the performance we've put on the field because of the coaching staff Gus brought on. It seems like Butch is starting to do the same here too - UT was just cursed with 3 years of underperformance instead of 1 abysmal.

You have played the dawgs. What are the keys to defeating them other than stopping Gurley and diminishing Murray's passing game?

Run the ball.

i agree - run the ball and try and keep murray from getting into a rhythm - i know he is a senior QB but i would put all my attention to gurley and stopping him from beating you and trying to control TOP with the running game

I would be surprised if AU didnt win the game - just see no way GA will keep AU from running the ball

I get you - i agree on needing the horses and on needing to get better players

just disagree with analogy

anyway, moving on, agree we need to get more bodies that are SEC caliber before we start passing judgement on this DC's ability

EDIT... and i agree saban is best recruiter, but there is something to be said for taking that great talent and winning with instead of just having really nice seasons - he recruits elite and wins elite - there are other coaches who recruit elite and win great - there is something to be said for that

He is a great coach. But, you have to be a great coach and a great recruiter and it is easier with a great product to sell as well. Bama in sec is a better product than mich state.

Your staff need to be able to do both as well and then sometimes get breaks such as scheduling ect. Saben would do well anywhere but would not win championships at certain schools. Got to get players first to have a chance.

Curious to know if the staff found a loophole involving mid season transfers . I have never seen two kids leave mid year like Posey and Dallas did. The Dallas move was really odd.

It may mean nothing but never know

Not sure how they could miss all the loopholes. Lots of people on VolNation have found them.

Not saying this is exactly correct because I don't know the number of EEs but here's how it COULD be regarding numbers.

2008 class size of 18(7 spots left)

2009 class size of 22 but only 15 after backcountry

Best I can find Toney Williams, Mitchell Thornton, Rae Sykes, and Hughes.

Means, we have 16 after backcount.

2010 class size of 27 but only 17 after back counting

Tyler Bray, Channing Fugate, Ja’Wuan James, Ted Meline, Corey Miller, Matt Milton, Matt Simms and Jacques Smith.

All 8 could be backcounted, therefore leaving us at 19.

2011 class size of 27 but only 19 after back counting

Justin Worley, Brendan Downs, Mack Crowder, Vincent Dallas, Justin Coleman, and Marcus Jackson

All 6 could be backcounted leaving us at 21.

2012 class size of 22 but only 16 after back counting

Cody Blanc, Alden Hill, Nathan Peterman, Justin Meredith, Darrington Sentimore, Trent Taylor, Tino Thomas (already included in 27 number from 2011)

Can backcount 4, so that leaves us at 18.

2013 class size of 23 but only 14 after back counting

Paul Harris, Lemond Johnson, Riyahd Jones, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, and Corey Vereen

Can backcount all 5.

This means for 2014

We have 18 slots from last year filled, so 7 we can backcount.

If we backcount all 7, that leaves us with 32 possible signees. If we can get out of Jabo Lee (not sure if possible since we released NLI) then we would be at 33 by my counts.

Great work. That's big info

Now I want to see if/how the 85 number ties into the amount of kids that are allowed to be back counted

NFL draft analyst Mike DeTillier said Tennessee OL Tiny Richardson, despite inconsistent season, will still be a late first-round draft pick.

DeTillier said OL JaWaun James will go in 2nd or 3rd rd, C James Stone in 3rd or 4th rd, and OL Zach Fulton and LB AJ Johnson in middle rds

Auburn impressed me with their physical and power running game. It's not deception that gets it done--nor is it gimmicky! Malzahn has designed an offense that just lines up and brings power at the point of attack between the tackles. He uses different formations, but basically runs that counter gap play we ran back when we had a dominant offensive line (mid to late 90s).

And that's how you win FB games against ANYBODY! UGA doesn't have depth in their front 7 on D...You guys need to pound the rock and keep them guessing by having the QB keep the ball periodically, and throwing the ball off of play-action.

Turnovers are your only achilles heel...can't turn the ball over because your defense just ain't that good--yet.

I think that UGA will load the box against you (8-9 guys) and attempt to make your QB beat them throwing the ball. (aTm just lined up and tried to out-score you).

LSU beat you by limiting your success running the ball (which doesn't really bode well for your Bama game this year).

I expect a high scoring game with UGA just like their game with LSU and your game with aTm. It may come down to whoever has the ball last.

You need to pressure Murray up the middle, get in his face, and sack him.

My prediction: Barn 42 puppies 38....

:salute:

A few point spreads in the sec this week, fwiw.

vandy vs uk -13 (opened at -13.5)
uf @ usce -13.5 (opened at -11)
uga @ aub -3.5 (opened at -3)
bama @ miss st -25 (opened at -24.5)

Not sure what to think of the spread vs vu next week. Just a guess but I'd say we'll be favored by 3 or less. I really hope I'm wrong and vu is favored. That would be like pouring gas on a raging fire!

Also, fwiw, couldn't help but to notice Coach Cut has Duke at 7-2 with Miami coming in this week. Miami is favored by 3. Duke won @ Vtech three weeks ago and Vtech just whipped Miami in Coral Gables last week.....hmmmm. Miami is lucky to be 2-2 in their last 4. Late come from behind wins @UNC and vs WF before getting waxed by fsu and Vtech. I'd take Duke to win straight up this week, and if they do, they've got a decent chance at being 10-2 if they can beat WF and UNC on the road to finish the season.

Wouldn't that be something? I'm happy for Cutcliff. He's done a helluva job over there. Heck, even if they lose their last 3 to finish 7-5, that's still a good season at Duke. They've stunk since Spurrier left and 0-4 win seasons were the norm before Cut got there. He also got Ole Miss out of the basement in the sec west and headed in the right direction before they fired him too early, imo, and hired Coach O lol. I think he would've done well at OM too if given the time.
