Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

Regarding the recruiting board, I know "the numbers will work out" and I'm not about to speculate, but what in the world is going to transpire for them to get another 4-5 players?

Anyone know the name of the 4* RB out of LA, who the Vols are pursuing? Rivals would not give the name unless you subscribe to their site.

We passed 42 times last Saturday and they got ****ing destroyed. My point is that for guys that are supposedly the best line in the SEC/Country, they have struggled with one thing or another their whole career.

They're not good at run blocking, because they're not used to it.

This is what we were saying yesterday, probably 7 spots to go. Fort's list is pretty consistent with the 7 you posted. So I have to ask, are you Fortenberry?

I think we're also going to have to lose 1 more from our current roster as I think we are at exactly 85 right now, assuming Swafford gets his scholarship.

One last observation. We could probably take 50 in this class. These guys are relentless in recruiting and I think the reason is we're going into NSD with 2-deep contingencies in every position group. We are not going to be phased if we get left at the altar by someone. Relentless. It's not just a word; It means something.

Even the knee-jerk reactionary Negavols should realize that this is the single strongest evidence that the future of Tennessee football is now in very good hands. The detail in their recruiting battle plan, with contingency stacked on top of contingency, with heavy, heavy emphasis on early enrollees and JUCOs in this class will escalate the process of restocking our roster as fast as is humanly possible with the highest level of talent obtainable under the specific circumstances that our program currently faces.

Because they aren't elite, but we already know that. That's what the media can do.

They don't even look good to me and it was pretty much accepted that they are at least good. They look unbelievably average and were the number one culprit of our struggles against Mizzou IMO.

From seeing our visit list its seems reasonable to assume at this point we are taking

2-3 more DL
1 RB(scott is out IMO)
1 LB( Garrett is out)

And Malone, Jackson or neither.

So that's anywhere from 4-7 more IMO

The O-line will play better in the NFL as individual players than they have at UT. Very few NFL teams have mobile O-lines since passing dominates the offenses. This bunch has work to do at that as well, but that is the one area where they have done well over the years. At UT they are required to move too much and to have pad leverage against the D-line. They simply cannot do it consistently. Ever since Butch was announced it has been clear he needed more mobile guys to run his scheme, which is 50-60% run in the past.

Darrel Williams?

Looked at his picture. Looks like the kid 247 says has been offered by the Vols. He's showing as a commit to Arizona State currently. I don't subscribe to 247 or rivals, so the article is blocked and doesn't show the name, but did show his picture. Guess the Vols are looking for insurance at the RB position.

I thought we could only sign 30?

Depending on how well the former staff did at backcounting and current staff getting creative with the 85 limit, I've said since May that the number could go as high as 33 - I looked back to classes dating back to the 25 rule and counted our backcounted EEs. Could be 33. Butch said 30 so I bet it's 30. Just saying it could theoretically be 33.

If it could possibly be 33, it would. They will not leave anything in the holster

4.0 through high school. I say we ask Mr. Dobbs to go on an academic scholarship and free one more up for the team.

I'm sure he'd go for it if you used it for another 4 star O Lineman to protect him.
