Interesting note by Simonton on UT's chances of getting to 7-5. Basically said we needed Trey back, get Solomon eligible, and other DL players to play above expectation to get that 7th win. Combining this with the recent article by Ubben and mod conversations from 247 from the Spring - it feels like those that have seen this team the most feel 7 wins would be a solid accomplishment, but nowhere near a given.
Simonton is saying 7 is ceiling
Pruitt is saying anywhere from 8-10
I’m riding with ole JP. 10 wins til it ain’t

Ubben is sharp and close to the team. They’ll get hate for this but we should listen. When Bruce Feldman visited in 2017 and said we don’t look like an SEC squad folks said, “What does he know?” He knew.

Likely nothing from King tonight - Perroni

Another day of sweating it out.

And just as the Tweeter Machine slows and hope is lost for the night....

BAM, he commits!

(Before everyone flips and burns their screen up trying to get social media to load, I’m only saying this will probably happen).

TN and Va tech are out in blackshear per 247. Sounds like gator.

Knew this got shady since it was taking awhile

Sucks...but he was always a 1 yr stop gap. It's not like we were top 10, FF, SEC Champ material regardless. Neither will UF be. Just hope he doesn't shock and end at UK.

It sucks to hear, but they really see as much as anyone with a disinterested set of eyes does. In 2015 we heard a lot of "man this team looks like a legit SEC team finally". Some similar talk in 2016 of course with skill talent, but seemed underwhelmed with development in the trenches.

2017 was muddled the whole way. Wasn't sure what to think. Part of that was Butch putting the clamps on everything. He knew disaster was coming. But the one thing that stuck out was how the staff was surprised we didn't make bigger progress with Rock/S&C.

Last year after hearing 247 it felt like a 3-win season was on the horizon. Ryan and Wes came off as if it would be crazy if we even made a bowl game. And Wes has been very positive on Pruitt.

This year it again feels like they are all telling us to pump the brakes. It is what it is. Hope we shock all, but I'm NOT going to set my bar for lighting mattresses on fire at "merely" 6-6. Not now. Not with Pruitt and Fulmer. You don't walk into Chernobyl and turn it into Moscow overnight.

I always have high hopes. Really think this season will rest with Chaney and JG, there has to be a big step there. The trenches have to be better this year with the coaches and S&C were relying on.

It’s foolish to say 7 wins is the ceiling. Anyone that knows this defense knows the biggest gains are from year 1 to year 2.... year 1 you kinda play with one arm behind your back defensively because of the learning curve and your pull back on plays because of the same thing... the coaches don’t say that but it’s true.

Also the D-Line is a big deal and no one is saying it isn’t but when you have good LB’s they make the D-line right and I expect that this year.

Top that off with the offseason addition of JC giving JG responsibility at the line, which only further increases the buy in from him and couple that with a legit short game and answers to bad looks and JC knowing how to use RBs out of the backfield (especially Ty Chandler) then you dramatically improve the O-Line...

There are ways to cover up deficiencies and we absolutely have the coaching staff that knows how....

9 wins the ceiling
6 wins the floor
8-4 probably....

Perfect. Let the ones who can profit on their likeness do it off scholarship and then let the SAs who can't stay on scholarship. Saves a huge amount of money in the AD

Raises an interesting question of how many could actually outearn the value of: a multiyear scholarship, unlimited medical expenses, annual stipend, etc. This is often valued at 125k low end, to probably 200k+ at the top end. I could see a player like Zion potentially reaching this level, but who else? Probably few enough to count on 1 hand.

Don't know of anyone that has said 7 is the absolute ceiling. Though it also seems odd to say 9 is the ceiling, 6 is the floor, and 8 is probable, given a normal distribution.

Yes, gains in the defense from a schematic standpoint are expected - but when we have to replace our ENTIRE DL and had downright poor LB play last year - it's tough to imagine any gains won't be negated by mediocre 1st and 2nd level play for 1 more season.

I do agree the offense should see big gains. We simply return too much across that side of the ball to not expect a big step forward.

Wasn’t going to turn him down obviously but I also didn’t want to lose anyone on roster either.
