Continuing with the “scouting” reports, here is a recap of Josh Ward’s interview with David Ubben of the Athletic.

David said the first thing you notice about practice this year is the comfort level of everyone. There’s not a lot of hollering and yelling and a lot of that has to do with us having moved beyond the basics.

David singled out some of the new guys he thought we needed to be and based on early observation expect to be significant impact guys this year, whether earning a starting role or at least being in the rotation. He named JJ Peterson but talked more specifically about Jaylen McCollough, Quavaris Crouch, and Wanya Morris.

Morris, he said, has a wide base and huge legs, very impressive so far. Would be surprised if he’s not a huge part of the rotation, even a day one starter.

Jaylen McCollough has looked really good. Taller, bigger DB. He’ll be in the rotation this year.

Crouch is a big presence. Fans have been undersold about how big he is.

Really likes what he sees from these four guys early on but still a long ways to go through spring and into this fall.

David said in talking with JG he was left with the impression that Jarrett felt like a puppet last year in the previous offense and now feels like he’s running the show a bit. Among other things, JG has been given more control over protections and you can imagine for someone who is use to taking a beating from his blind side he’s pretty fired up about that. Being allowed to adjust protections pre-snap based on what the defense is showing may go a long ways to keeping him off the ground and in the game.

Another thing that JG is trying to use to his benefit is the experience he’s gained learning concepts from multiple OCs since he’s been here. He really likes Chaney’s offense. During the offseason JG spent some time with a private coach in New Jersey focusing on mechanics and trying to prepare for the style of whoever the new coordination might be, including under center, RPOs, spread concepts, etc.

The guys on the defense really like Ansley. David said he’s probably like Pruitt 5 or 6 years ago. He’s known for having a very bright football mind. There’s a lot of synergy among the coaches on that side of the ball and given their histories together, anyone of them could call the defense. Everyone knows what everyone else is trying to do and when it all comes together with the players on the field our defense should take a major leap forward.

I always roll my eyes when I hear of the children of rich/connected people attending Ivy Leagues or other powerhouse schools. Most of those schools are extremely selective in their admissions processes. And while I'm sure there are plenty of well-to-do kids who get there with legit grades/test scores/extracurriculars, plenty of them get admitted via nepotism or outright bribery. And they often graduate while barely doing any work and ultimately end up in positions of power where they also barely do any work.
Where can I sign up?

This has me fired up! TY!

Look what my daughter made me...View attachment 197451

I’ve got my son and daughter in law looking all over the web for a black apron that has a power orange T and granddaughter on it for my newly 11 year old granddaughter (she became my granddaughter when I laid eyes on her). It will match my apron, that she got for me Christmas, except for the, of couse, Grandma in mine.

This is increasingly not going to be a proper excuse anymore. I'm not railing on you for saying it, because you're right. But what I'm looking forward to is a time where that's said less and less.. Gotta think, there are people who try hard and miss out, and that's all they hear in return.
It’s not going to change. I’m fine with it.

Do you know anyone with a cricut? I'm sure they could make it (I'm not sure how it works). My daughter just found vinyl in Tennessee orange so it is available. The vinyl she used on this is a little florescent so she is getting more.

@Catbone and @LurtzVol109 I'm a 25 year old sophomore (also a May baby Cat, lets celebrate with a jam sesh?) in undergrad with plans for med school which means 10+ more years of school / hardly making money.

Not getting all existential about it (had that moment at 17 honestly).

Ideally, we've got 60 years left. And as dudes, there ain't no clock on the eggs. These guns stay shootin. Family is definitely in my plans.

Get ya minds right. Get ya health right. Make a decision with what you want to do (being smart can lead to some serious analysis paralysis), and get on with it!

Cheers to the journey fellas. Best of luck!

Yall May babies, April life right here! And yea, I had to make a decision as to what I wanted to do when I got outta the military and my squadmates all pointed me to coaching, so I'm goin back to school in the fall. Buddy of mine attended the coaches clinic at UT and I'm grabbing all the notes he took and we're gonna pour over all of it together.

Thank you, can’t say I know anything about criciut, but thank goodness, my son, is a lot smarter than I am, and now can point him in the right direction to find it for me for Easter, Thanks to you. My granddaughter’s biological dad left her and my daughter (that’s what she is to me), and she has anxiety issues, I just want to give her something that somehow builds trust in me for her, like she did for me.

Thanks for summarizing this! If JG was used more as a puppet it explains a lot. Here's to hoping he thrives with the new found freedom.
