It became apparent just how much momentum Tennessee had with five-star
Corey Walker when the 2020 small forward made a trip to Knoxville for his second unofficial visit in three weeks. It became official on Sunday, when Walker commitment to the Vols, their first pledge in the 2020 class. 247Sports Director of Basketball Recruiting Evan Daniel broke the news of Walker's commitment.
The 6-foot-6, 185-pound Walker, out of Bishop Snyder High School in Florida, is a five-star prospect in the 247Sports ratings, ranked No. 22 overall and No. 4 among small forwards. He’s the No. 4 overall player out of Florida. He’s a four-star prospect in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, ranked No. 31 overall and No. 7 at his position.
During the
Rick Barnes era at Tennessee, Walker is the second-highest rated commitment, trailing only
Josiah James, the 2019 five-star point guard who signed with the Vols in November. James was the No. 16 overall player in the Composite and No. 14 in the 247Sports ratings.
Walker, the sixth-highest rated player to commit to the Vols in the history of the 247Sports ratings, was part of a star-studded recruiting weekend for Tennessee, with a long list of highly rated prospects on hand for the 71-52 win over Kentucky.
Walker saw everything he needed to see on his first unofficial visit to Knoxville, but returned this weekend with his mother part of the trip. “The coaches areas, the players’ areas, the TVs, the video games, the big-screen TVs, they had everything up there,” Walker told GoVols247 last month of the first unofficial visit.
The Vols, led by assistant coach
Desmond Oliver, have been recruiting Walker since July. They offered last month and became a contender in his recruitment because of head coach
Rick Barnesand what his staff has done with the Tennessee basketball program.
“He’s a legend,” Walker said of Barnes. “He coached
Kevin Durant, and we all know how
Kevin Durant is one of the best players in the (NBA). “You have to go see guys like that.”
