I'd ride with Champ if I was them. He's a really good defensive coach, good recruiter. Even though he's like 6-0 against Tennessee or whatever, that's not going to last. South Carolina people need to accept what they are.

Muschamp sucks. He failed at Florida and his defense sucks at SC now. They are 81st in total defense. I hope he stays at SC for a long time.

I thought it was a good hire when they announced it. Spurrier tanked the program. When that happens, there's no point in trying to hire a home run guy because it's not gonna happen unless you're a blue blood with huge pocketbooks (and even then you still might get turned down).

The move is to hire a guy known for his recruiting prowess who maybe isn't in high demand (fired coach, coordinator). Give him 3-4 years and if he doesn't get it done you've got a stocked roster and the job will be more appealing the next time around.

I do too. I feel like starting next year we'd probably have his number from then on. South Carolina can't expect to consistently compete with the big three in the east when they're right at or close to full strength.

Weren’t they close to hiring Tom Herman before muschamp?

They're going to have a hard time hiring a decent coach who would want to compete with strong UGA, UF and UT programs IMO. I don't think they'll make a move with Muschamp unless he just totally tanks next year or something.

I am hesitant on revealing that I was pumped when Mike Leach was going to be the guy. Like, obnoxiously pumped.

I would love to be able to glimpse an alternate reality where Tennessee hires Leach without having to commit to it in this timeline. Very, very curious what that would look like.

For sure. I think they’ll be content with 7-5 and 8-4 seasons (for now)

I believe they reached out to Herman and to Kirby, which caused UGA to fire Richt to get Kirby to Athens. Herman obviously had been wanting the Texas gig, and Kirby preferred returning to his alma mater. But I do believe both of them were named the frontrunner for the SC job by different sources.

God i would’ve hated that. . He’s mike leach but younger and a better recruiter.
Yep. I told my friends at the time he would be a better hire than Muschamp. Young, offensive master mind with so much potential and ties to the area from his time at ECU. Glad it didn’t happen
