Wow, that’s crazy. Just not giving effort is troublesome. Pruitt is much more patient than I would be
he kinda has to be with this team, this year. i think there's a lot of kids on this team that lack confidence.

you hear coaches talk about having to break them down, to build them back up. i think the breaking down part was taken care of before he got on campus.

he has to be mindful of what this team's psyche is. lack of confidence can be a killer, and sometimes the last thing these kids need is another person telling them they suck.

i think he's been honest with them. i think he's continuing that by playing who he's playing right now. at some point, the lightbulb has to go off for them on what the expectation is vs. their current performance. the coaches' job is help them make up the difference between the two. and i think that's what he's doing, w/out being a d**k about it. just telling them the most consistent players in practice will play. and he's sticking to it.

It's more them getting tired and not always pushing through it or giving up too quickly than it is not trying. They give effort-- but giving 100% effort the whole practice is tough. The coaches work them hard and some guys handle it better than others. And Pruitt doesn't overlook it. They earn PT or they don't get it-- as we saw last week.

and that'll pay dividends for the younger guys going forward and in the next couple years as they continue on w/in the program.

they'll have much better idea of what is expected, how we're going to practice, and play. and by the time the next couple of classes get on campus, they'll be learning by example, not by coaches barking.

that doesn't happen overnight.

These young guys are going to get better as the season progresses. More reps and the time to improve technique will make a difference in their level of play. Mental mistakes and poor tackling killed us last week.
he has a window to work with, with this group where he can get away with what he's doing right now.

we all know he wants to win every game we play. but as is the case with the bosses he's had, nothing is going to get in the way of the process. but that has to be established early and often. even if it means taking some lumps early (which sucks for us as fans right now), but if he sticks to it, what he's doing right now will be the culture of this program going forward.

and you won't have to have coaches setting the tone. the players will do that on their own. and they'll be better off for it long term.

the question is, how long will it take this group for that to sink in? the bad news is they've got about two weeks left before it really matters, and could be the difference in having a post season or sitting here as a 5 win team come Decemeber.

no pressure or anything........but all of these things are reasons why the next two weeks are really important.

i'd say if you don't start seeing some of these guys getting significant reps in these next two games, it's going MUCH slower than anyone on that staff wants it to be, and definitely slower than any of us want it to be.

Thanks for the info, you seem informed

Just talked to some guys who've watched practices. Not sure what went on this week, though. I haven't kept up.
well, and CJP has been pretty candid about this topic, generally speaking. we're extrapolating on the "who" based on who didn't really play vs. who did...which i don't think is going too far out on a limb in most cases.

Yep, the coaches get all over them in practice, so it's not a secret. Sometimes, the whole position group has to do extra drills or run suicides when a guy is slacking. I didn't see Pruitt's pressers this week, but you're right-- he's usually pretty direct.

The next two weeks won’t be the best games, but it will definitely be interesting to keep an eye on how we develop our depth.

In Smart’s first year Georgia got drilled 45-14 by a 5-7 Ole Miss team and struggled mightily against Nichols State.

Preseason I thought we’d see an equivalent to Georgia’s Nichols State game in either the ETSU or UTEP game.

I hope I’m wrong. But somehow I won’t be surprised. Seems like Pruitt is setting the culture, teaching a new system, and switching a bunch of guys around. Players are responding differently to that. ...One of these games (UTEP?) may be tougher than we expect.

Over/Under on Tennessee at +37?
I'll pound that over if it's actually available. I can't find any oddsmakers offering markets on the game tomorrow. I checked oddsshark and this made me laugh

7am, woke up in a hotel in Jonesboro, Arkansas just convinced that tropical storm Gordon would be dumping rain outside. Opened curtains, nothing. Checked radar, dam. Checked Saturdays TV college football schedule, dam.

Moment of clarity,

Took the day off, jumped in truck, drove 2 1/2 hrs to UC, rearranged gear in my bag, another 6 hour drive, Boom! Hotel number 2 for the day in Knoxville. I frikn love unplanned adventures, they are the best. Go Vols!

He's direct without being specific. If that makes sense...
