It doesn't get much more impressive than that, imo, taking a jump ball away from the master, Jennings. Bryce has mad ball skills and although I prefer him at WR, it won't hurt my feelings if he ends up starting at DB. I see a lot of Deon Grant and maybe even Carl Pickens in Bryce. I know it would be asking a lot from a freshman, but would love to see Bryce get a couple of plays a game on offense along with punt and kickoff return duties, also

Won't happen. However he might get to start on Defense. Also, remember JJ is limited in practice so they might have told him he isn't allowed to go up for any Jump Balls. That's usually a play where he goes up and he only attempted to swat it down.

U are probably right about Bryce not getting an offensive package, but wrong about the jump ball. The coaches wouldn't have had JJ on the field with limitations. Bryce just went up and took it from him. Now JJs timing could be off, but either way, the ball skills of Bryce's are exceptional, maybe even the best on the team.

Either practice 1 or 2 one of the reporters said it was obvious JJ is not 100%. I don’t think coaches have put limitations on him so much as he’s just still recovering.

You say he went up and took it but JJ didn't even try and jump. Which we know he can do. The coaches definitely said he was going to practice with limitations. I didn't see him jump for a ball in any of the practice footage.

I only assume that since he isn't 100% he probably was told not to do certain things. Could be wrong. I still think it was a good pick either way.

Ricky Talk podcast had a different take on him. Not sure who’s right, but I was surprised by their comments on him.

Yep. It was the new guy on the Vols beat that writes for the Athletic. He was basically crowning Chryst the starter because he made better decisions under pressure, including check downs. Was the exact opposite take of everyone I’ve seen, so it was interesting. He also said there are very few Tennessee players who jump out at you from a size/athletic standpoint. He said Trey Smith and DWA but didn’t name anyone else. His take was that Tennessee has as many questions at this point in fall camp as any team in the country.

Was a sobering take considering he’s covered a lot of ball in other conferences, including the Big 12 most recently. He was quick to say (and to repeat) that Tennessee definitely can beat WVU. He was in less optimistic about our chances in the SEC.

I’m still stuck at 5.5 personally, with a strong lean towards 6. I just can’t look past the struggles Saban and Kirby had in their first years implementing this system and philosophy.

I think take one out of WVU or UF (the signature win), have a four game losing steak starting with UGA, and then drop one (or two) surprise ones late. Somewhere in there we will have a shockingly good game (Alabama?) and a shockingly bad one (Mizzou or Vandy?).

I've been reading thru the posts here trying to catch up with UT news from the past couple of days, and boy I'm glad I did. Otherwise I would've missed the news about us hiring Butch back. And clearly that has dominated the convo here. He's been talked about more than all of our others coaches combined during OUR fall practice.

There's no doubt he's still in the head of many on VN.

OSU is poising themselves to let Meyer survive this fiasco.

What times we live in.
They don't want to get rid of one of the few winning coaches in CFB. It's understandable from a fan point of view, but it's completely moronic from a large public university's point of view

I meant Rocky Talk. Whoever mentioned that as a good podcast, thanks. I live in the Atlanta area, and my drive into town is much better listening to Rocky Talk as opposed to ATL sports radio.
Now it’s being sponsored by the Athletic. Big cred jump from SEC Country and Mike Griffith to these guys and David Ubben.

David Ubben didn’t crown anybody. Just opined that Chryst was more impressive. He seems to be a big fan of checking down.
