How hard is it to play QB at Bama right now? They put a true freshman in at halftime and throttled the SEC champion. Stop overrating Hurts when you’ll turn on him for not being able to pass(Dobbs looks like Peyton next to him passing). He’s not a good passer at all and won’t have what he had at Bama to mask his shortcomings. If it’s not an O-lineman, D-lineman or LB then leave it in T-town. Team will be fine without all of these transfers. Recruit and build this thing right.

Welcome back. 100% agree. People are missing he's losing his job after winning a NC while surrounded by NFL players. Let's move on with our guys.

There he is! Welcome back BB

Jalen Hurts is a 6’2” 220lb elite level athlete. Runs 4.5, benches 400, squats 500, with a 10 ft broad jump.

He can run. He can pass. He can score.
Was the SEC Offensive Player of the Year.

Seems like he would be a pretty nice WEAPON to have at our disposal.

He’s an athlete, not a QB. He has a lot of NFL caliber talent around him. I’d gladly take him as a S or WR but not as a QB. I like the QBs we have now. JMO of course

Not sure comparing a sr dobbs to a soph hurts is fair. Dobbs wasn't a good passer his first 2 yrs. I don't want hurts but I'm not going to act like he sucks. I figure he goes to Kiffin or TX

I think he is on pace to graduate tho. So ideally he could get two more years for grad transfer because one would act like a senior year and another to be a legit grad year.

Not 100% tho
Graduating doesn’t give him 5 years to play five. He has 4 years...like everybody else. You’re complicating yourself.

I guess if he redshirted this year (he won't), he'd have two to play two. Otherwise, you're right. He'd be a two to play one guy.

Which lays it at Saban’s feet. Does he go out of his way to preserve his backup QB’s eligibility so he can have two years at another school...possibly a SEC rival?

I kind of expect Saban will. There may be some angst when it comes time to move elsewhere depending on where he'd like to go, but I think Saban will ultimately help the young man out.

Assuming, of course, Tua performs and stays healthy.

If JG has a better year than hurts ever did he would would be putting up:

25 total TDs (17p/8r) with right at 3000 total yards

Or

36 total TDs ( 23p/13r) with 3700+ total yards.

...you really think that’s possible?
See that's the real reason for yer hypothetical. You can't even hypothetically imagine JG having a good year. You have been trying to write him off the whole time while claiming to be unbiased. That's fine, I understand yer opinion, just admit the bias. To answer yer question, yes I do think he could have a year like that, this year. I'm not hating on Hurts either. I don't like wasting scholarships on 1 year rentals, especially when they may not even be starters.

Here's a counter hypothetical. If JG puts up 25 total TDs (17p/8r) with right at 3000 total yards this season, would you still wanna bring in Hurts for one year as a probable backup and lose a spot in the class for it?

Nice thoughts. Not being snarky, but it doesn’t jibe with the man’s career. His first and only concern is his employer. Man detests transfers from his program and resists as much as the rules allow.

Member how big of a fuss he put up over his backup center wanting a grad transfer to us? There is no way Saban let's Hurts play less than 4 games this year.

Yes i would lol. Because in no scenario do i see McBride&JG both coming back next year. So that leaves us with 2 QBs on roster. But even if both do return and JG plays lights out, absolutely yes.

If you have 25 in a recruiting class, absolute best case scenario you hit on 20 of those players. You’re really not willing to sacrifice one spot for an elite athlete who has proven to produce in this conference?

Pros to bringing him in:
-Elite athlete
-experience
-depth
-taking bamas #2
-allow to comfortably redshirt our next QB signee.

Cons:
Using 1/25 spot (which according to %s isn’t likely to pan out anyway). I look at it as trading a 7th round pick for someone if this were nfl. I think you’re wayyy over valueing that one spot in a recruiting class when even in the best recruiting classes in our history say 80% of the players pan out.

Yeah, I see that. But Hurts has handled this pretty well, he was very instrumental in putting Nick in 2 NC games, and this is a pretty unique situation. I think he's earned the respect and I'd be surprised if Nick pushed back. Saban probably won't cooperate as much if Hurts wanted to go to LSU or UT, but I can see him helping him preserve the year of eligibility.

Yeah, but the backup center didn't contribute anything remotely close to what Hurts did. 2 National Championship seasons and he was the starting QB until the second half of the Georgia game. This situation is very unique...I can't recall an instance where the starting QB of a NC team lost his job. I think Hurts has earned some equity and even Nick will acknowledge that.

Also even as the backup QB Hurts is still very important to bamas season. Who knows how tua will be now that teams actually get to scheme and prepare for him. And if he gets hurt obviously Jalen is right back in. That’s a nice luxury to have.

It doesn't leave us with 2 qbs though. Unless yer saying take him over Maurer or any other qbs we could take in this class. I'm perfectly comfortable going into next year with JG, Shrout and any freshman we sign. I think JG and a second year Shrout are both perfectly capable of being as good or better than Hurts. And I don't think that scenario prevents us from redshirting our next qb signee. I'm pretty sure having to play 3 qbs is far less common than you think it is. Just because lyle had to doesn't mean it always happens. I don't give a chef about taking bama's #2. I would much rather use that spot on a guy like Taulia if it counts in this class (which would upset bama more IMO) or Harrison Bailey and another HS QB if it counts in next class.

And if Hurts plays the "backup role" well, that's even more equity. I can imagine Nick & Hurts having this very conversation when it's announced that Tua is getting the nod.

Fulmer bled orange. Kiffin wanted to be at USC. Dooley obviously had huge Georgia ties. Some were worried about Butch going to Michigan. Pruitt is as Alabama as it gets.

Not really a point here really but it's kinda interesting.
Yeah contrary to common belief on here if I was the head coach at Alabama and Tennessee came calling, I'm gone. He'll be gone too, unless he just didn't want to follow Saban.

He has to assume another SEC school is a possible destination and that’s why he won’t help. It’s actual respect of Hurts skills. If he didn’t value them, he wouldn’t worry about playing against him for another year.
